“Embasssy Suites on the River-always a pleasant experience”
The hotel is undergoing renovations and I wasn't aware of that. We may have chosen a different hotel if we had known just because it was my sister's first stay there. Otherwise, things were great!
“dirty room!!!!”
Cobwebs in 3 different spots in bedroom, dust, broken piece of some plastic thing in corner, shampoo or soap splatter s all over bathroom ceiling, not clean at all!
“Under construction/restaurant is not good”
The Restaurant Doozies located in the Embassy Suites was only mediocre at best. We ate there at noon on Saturday....only 3 tables were full and we waited a full 45 minutes for our sandwiches. They were also out of a white wine that was on the menu.....In addition, our rooms were not cleaned until after noon each day and we specifially requested they be done as early as possible. ....Lastly, the parking lot located across the street required our room key to exit and when we inserted the key, the gate would not open... This happened for 2 days straight . We had to call the hotel each time so they could manually lift the gate for us to get our car out of the lot.
“Would stay again”
The hotel was under construction during our stay but our room was clean, comfortable and spacious.
“Great Weekend Location, but NOT impressed!”
We opted to stay at the Embassy Suites on The River due to its location near The East Village for a weekend away with the girls. It was a very convenient meeting place for my sister and myself (from the Twin Cities) to meet my daughter from Lawrence, Kansas. This Embassy Suites seemed to offer everything we were wanting. The location was wonderful, but the hotel is undergoing a serious (and much needed) renovation and most of the hotel it is an awful state! The check-in desk is literally a hole in the wall, the Atrium where the breakfast is served looks like something off of "Resturant Rescue", the carpet is beyond filthy and the tile was all chipped and missing. There was a bag of old take out food left in the hallway along side the room next to ours which was left there for 2 days, passed by housekeeping both days. We had a mysterious "area of spots" on our bathroom floor which should have been washed away PRIOR to our check in and was never cleaned the entire length of our stay. All in all I would not recommend this hotel for your stay UNTIL the renovation is COMPLETED!! There is just too much wrong to make it the right choice. I would heed my own advise and would not stay here again for a long time!
“Embassy Suites On the River Des Moines”
Was trouble at checking, my fault, and they cleared it up and found me a room. Awesome staff and very friendly bar area.
“Great experience”
Had a great time. Hotel was beautiful! Everyone very friendly and wanted to please! Only thing couldn"t control the thermostat...was cool for me and cold for my husband! Brunch was excellent! Didn't like the 7.00 or 12.00 parking fee.Pay enough for the room don't need added expence!
“Typical Embassy Suites - room quality varied”
Stayed at Embassy Suites because of Expedia special rate and also the reputation. Unfortunately we had asked for a no smoking room but first two rooms offered smelled so bad that we had to go back to the front desk. For example, Room 225, we couldn't even go in - the smell when we opened the door was awful. Finally we got an adequate room but there was still a smell of air freshener. Recommended that a carpet overhaul or drapery change be undertaken. Front desk staff were very nice and apologetic. Breakfast in the morning was outstanding and overall the stay was fine and a good value. We would stay there again but we will be selective about the room we get.
“Outstanding facility”
Stayed at the Embassy Suits on the River in Des Moines with my son and grandson. Great location, outstanding facility and with one minor exception, an outstanding staff. Management took care of the staff issue efficiently and effectively and I hope to return very soon.
“Great services for the price”
I really appreciated a couple of the services that came with the hotel. The included breakfast is much more complete than the typical cereal/waffle kind. There were preprepared scrambbled eggs, hot cereal, lots of fresh fruit, etc. Variety and quantity was good but of course the eggs get a little tired in the steamer trays. So instead you could stand in line and order up an omelet, choosing from a dozen vegetables etc. to mix in. Didn't see any meat on the line. The other great service was the local transportation. I had most of a day to kill. While I walked to the Botanical Gardens (1/2 mile) I had the van take me to the Art Center and then come and pick me up. I did have to wait 1/2 an hour for the latter but the service eliminated the hassle and expense of renting a car. Then I got the ride to the airport - all of this technically after I'd checked out that morning. The staff was helpful and courteous. The bar stayed open until midnight. The room - actually two rooms - was fine. The hot July sun warmed up the area around the window a bit but the overall room stayed cool.
