“A Gem of an Hotel in Derbyshire”

The George in Hathersage is set on the main road though double glazing minimised any traffic noise. Open plan reception area with very modern bar and lounge, log effect gas fire, large couches and armchairs. Our bedrooms were spotless, a mixture of old and new styles in soft greens and lemon. Modern white tiled bathroom, shower over bath. Rooms may be on two levels as are corridors but no lifts so may be awkward for those with mobility problems. Help with luggage readily offered. Excellent service in restaurant - wonderful food, beautifully presented at dinner. For breakfast I'd recommend the bacon sandwich in tomato and black pudding bread and delicious home-made bread, marmalade and jams. Would have no hesitation in using this hotel again.

“Lovely, characterful, traditional yet modern hotel”

The George is a great base from which to explore the Peak. It is a grand old building, decorated in very tasteful modern style with all mod cons. The staff were very friendly and the service in general superb. The dining was a real gourmet experience, "food science" in the Blumenthal stylee, melding some incredible flavours together in to a culinary cornucopia of taste sensations. Hathersage is a great town, the heart of the Peak outdoor scene. All this, and good value too. My only tiny niggle was that our room was a little stuffy in the recent humid spell. A great experience, highly recommended.

“Good overall”

Overall a good experience. Service was good in the bar and restaurant. The dinner menu was not as varied as we would have liked - there were no beef, lamb or pork options nor was there an option to have a light meal rather than the two or three course choice. Breakfast was excellent.
