We were very impressed by Breadsall Priory. The staff were helpful and polite, the room was very nice and large enough to accommodate a family and we had good meals throughout our stay. It is clearly in a process of modernisation and was in much better condition than when we last came. A bit surprised to see the championship golf course still closed but we had a good time on the Moorland.

This is a stunning hotel and the grounds are also spectacular and very nicely kept. The rooms and food choices for evening meal and breakfast are also very good. The only thing that lets the hotel down is the staff from not clearing empty tables of empty glasses in both the bar and restaurant, despite a number of just staff walking by and not even looking at. For example we had a night cap cocktail in the bar just after 10pm and it was fairly quiet, we was in the bar for about 30-40 minutes and the bar counter surface was stacked high with glasses and bottles bought from the main restaurant and there must have been 3-4 tables in the bar with empty glasses that also hadn't been collected even thought there were staff walking in and out of the bar and also staff at the bar not taking any orders - very poor to see. The same thing in the morning we had breakfast just after 9am and there was at least 3 empty tables for the duration we were there (45-50 minutes) with left cups, plates, bowls and cutlery not being cleared.

We were upgraded to the bridal suite. Had great views, large room, good bed but a tiny bathroom. Instant coffee was a poor choice for what we paid for this level of room and hotel.

A big disappointment
My partner and I were so excited to stay in such a beautiful country house hotel, full of historical interest. Unfortunately we were very quickly left disappointed after being sent to an outbuilding when we thought we had paid for a suite in the hotel. The fact that our suite was in an outbuilding of the hotel was not made clear upon our booking on Hotels.com. We thought we would be staying in a country house, but ended up in the stables! We paid extra for a suite, but I would not consider our room a suite, at best it was a superior room. The TV did not work either and the bathroom was dirty and very dated. This hotel is not worth the money at all, I will stick to Premier Inn in the future.

Our Junior Suites are all situated in either the Priory Building, or the Mews Courtyard. Being a hotel steeped in history, as per your expectation, many of our rooms have their own characters and we simply cannot list all of these on our various booking sites. In future if you are wanting to request a particular type of room or section, we would recommend communicating with the hotel prior to your arrival.

The establishment and staff are fantastic Kris who's the duty manager is a great manager but from there it goes down hill dramatically. The breakfast was cooked a week ago I'm sure, the afternoon meal was ok but service is thin and it's not the staffs fault they actually try but just not enough staff. The spa was like a kindergarten pool with no policing and became uninhabitable for a couple to relax and this was all day. The mattress in the room was what I'd consider close to concrete. This all stems down from cost cutting at the top and nothing to do with the staff like I say they was fantastic when that could be. It's such a shame as when you arrive you think your in for a amazing weekend only to compare to a Butlins stay.

Very good hotel and spa facilities.
Following the recent refurbishments, Breadsall Priory has returned to it's previous excellent standard. New staff are all learning their skills and providing very good service.

Couple overnight stay
Good intro upon arrival with a very friendly receptionist, although a bit information overload - almost forgot where room was by the time we’d been told everything else! Thankfully a map is provided as it seems a bit of a maze to begin with, but actually it’s not that hard to get around. Due to the age and the nature of the buildings there are a small staircases all over the place; not an issue if your mobility is ok - would be an issue for those requiring a more accessible place to stay. We were in Room 201 - right above main entrance. Automatic door mechanism for the main door below was audible throughout the evening but wasn’t a problem at night. The bed was big with what felt like a very thin duvet for this time of year (late Oct) but I was actually over-hot in the room, so no drama there. The room was itself was clean and well presented, but the furniture is a bit awkward, with a chair in front of the fridge. Didn’t use the TV so can’t comment on that. The bathroom was pretty small, but functional. Room service had forgotten to refill the shampoo, but I had my own in my wash bag, so not a problem. Didn’t really rate the shower gel etc. - there are much nicer smelling things in the supermarket than whatever brand it was. The spa was really busy when we arrived at 16:30 so avoid peak hours. The steam room had an odd unpleasant smell, so didn’t spend long in there. Didn’t eat our evening meal here, but breakfast was good - but no black pudding or poached eggs :(

Beautiful building and grounds. Friendly and helpful staff. felt that though the food in the restaurant was good, it was somewhat overpriced. There was a distinct lack of staff for breakfast on our 2nd morning and because all the plates were cold, the food was also cold by the time we got it to our table. Though not a criticism, this hotel cannot be recommended for anyone with mobility difficulties. There is a small lift in part of the building but when I tried to use it, the door jammed and the light inside didn't work! Otherwise, a very enjoyable stay.

The best of the hotel is a location, the hotel is going through a refit which it needs. The food is very limited in options and very expensive for the offer and not that good. Some staff were very good and engaging others were surly and uninterested. Due to some unthoughtful guests the sound proofing in the room were found to be inadequate

Little gem
Lovely venue, convenient and great room (122) with two bathrooms! Oddly, there was no soap in the second bathroom, but I suspect this was an oversight. Will definitely stay again.

Good but not great.
The place is pretty amazing, the garden, the old part of the house, but a bit dated. I wanted to sit outside and have a drink but the bar in the main house was closed. The lady at Reception wasn't sure but she told me to go to the Tempo bar. There was one person behind the bar, completely overwhelmed with a queue of people waiting to order so i abandoned the idea of a drink. Staff were friendly and helpful. The bedroom was a very good size and clean but a bit dated and in need of modernisation, especially the bathroom. Due to some refurbishment happening breakfast was a bit disorganised and not great looking but the selection was ok.
