“Did not live up to it's 5 Star rating”

Whilst the main areas of the hotel were good, the bedrooms were a poor 3 star. Mine was down the end of a very long and shabby corridor where the carpet had seen better days. Think the cleaners had given up on it too - didn't look like it had been hoovered for a very long time... Everything in the hotel was over-priced too and many of the staff didn't go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

“Okay”

There is lot of construction going on in the immediate vicinity. Had to go around the hotel more than once to figure out the entrance. Parking is at this time outside the hotel because of the construction. Room was smaller than I expected for the price but it was very clean & comfortable.

“For business good location, common rendezvous spot, good value”

I've stayed in a dozen hotels in New Delhi. This one has good location for aiport, Gurgaon, and South Delhi. All the drivers know where it is. Many business meetings happen here and the facilities are good for casual to formal meetings. Sleeping rooms are adequate; some updated, some not. Bring power converters if you have lots of US gizmos to charge. Comfortable and clean and not pretentious. I have stayed here multiple times and will do so again.

“Great location, good public spaces, sleeping rooms a little tired but clean”

Excellent location for business travelers convenient to many addresses in South Delhi and relatively close to the international airport and Gurgaon. Very nice lobby, public spaces, several restaurants. My sleeping room was clean but somewhat tired in that the furniture and fittings are of fussy woodwork fussy drapes era with just a few electric outlets and no US/110 volt fxtures. All easily workable but if you want blond woods, glass, and Scandinavian lines this is not it. Service was good and value was quite good (part of why I selected this property) and I felt that the Expedia reviews going in were accurate. I have stayed in a dozen hotels in Delhi and this is one I would return to for location, value for money, and cleanliness.

Getting around
The city is immense, very horizontally oriented, and congested. If you are a business traveler it helps to try to schedule your meetings in adjacent locations and select your hotel based on the core venue of your meetings. Get a car and driver for the full day and get an India SIM for your mobile phone because your driver will have to call ahead for every meeting to figure out how to get there since addresses are never clear.

“A real treat in Delhi.”

I don't know what the Hyatt Regency is rated at, 4 or 5 star but it was the nicest hotel I ever stayed at excluding some of the lavish digs in Las Vegas. The staff was exceptional from the front desk to the luggage handlers, I am sure they have received good training from the management. I had dinner in their cafe and the simple meal was exceptional. I have been in India and China for 9 months so fresh lettuce with chunks of blue cheese dressing and french rolls with real butter were a superb treat. I just sat there and enjoyed a long drawn out dinner. The wait staff was superb. At breakfast the waiter remembered my name, that never happened before. The only down side was the heating in the room, the wall theromstat did not work so the hotel maintenance man gave me a portable space heater. This would have been an ok solution in many hotels but at a Hyatt, not acceptable, I should have been given another room or comped a meal. My other gripe was having to pay almost $20.00 U.S. for 24 hr. internet use, that should have been part of the room charge. The one feature my wife really enjoyed was the oversize soaking tub. Most accomodations in India have showers but a tub is a plus and a soaking tub is over the top. I must confess, I also enjoyed that little feature. Overall I highly recomment this hotel for anyone wanting that special, high end experience.

Area recommendations
The downtown Delhi area around Connant square is the main tourist activity hub. Lots of construction going on so expect dirt and holes in the streets etc. There are also some nice attractions near the downtown area like the Red Fort and the national musuem. I found both these locations very informative and enjoyable. Transportation is not a problem, lots of auto rickshaws available to take you anywhere you want to go. Bargin ahead of time for the fare knowing that you the foreigner will pay more than the locals but also know these rickshaw driver/owners make very little take home pay after paying for the rental on their units. Be a blessing to someone and give them that little extra instead of beating them down to the absolute rock bottom price. Another idea is to get the Delhi street guide book at one of the book stores and pick out a few place you want to see. This particular guide book has great information and very good maps. As far as eating goes, I have not had a bad experience in any restaurant in India but then I eat where others recommend the food and sanitation conditions. The traffic in Delhi is organized chaos, lots of honking and cars cutting each other off while motor bikes dart into every little space created by veering cars. Pedestrians, by the way, have no rights so look both ways before crossing the street, motot bikes often run against the traffic to save time and you could get blind sided. Enjoy your stay......DJ
Getting around
Use the metro if it fits into your travel plans. The metro trains are air conditioned and clean, that mean a lot in the summer and hot season. Purchase a metro pass from the ticket agent in the booth right next to the turn stiles, this beats waiting in line to buy a fare each time you travel. The auto rickshaws are another way to travel. Not all the drivers speak English so a map is very helpful for them. Bargin for the fare ahead of time. The last option is a taxi. You pay more but then you get more.

“Would definitely recommend this hotel”

Hotel check-in was a breeze. The satff was very courteous and helpful. The hotel is well located and the area around it is not very crowded as most parts of New Delhi are. The hotel rooms were a little small, but the decor more than made up for it. I stayed at the Imperial last time, and I would recommend the Hyatt over Imperial any time. Food was good (room service) although I did not get a chance to eat at any of the restaurants inside the hotel.

Area recommendations
New Delhi is extremely congested and polluted. The citu is huge and to get from my hotel to the Chandni Chowk (Fort/Jamea Masjid) took almost 1hr 30 minutes. But its a must see for tourists. Gurgaon is not too far, about 40 minutes and a lot of the Malls are located there especially the better ones. However, the best shopping in Delhi is at the Khan Market, which has everything from lovely silver jewellery to designer clothing and nice cafes.
Getting around
Use taxis esp airconditioned ones as the city traffic is the worst I have ever seen, and there's too much pollution. A couple of good cab companies are available and one can book a cab by calling their number advertised on the taxis and the web.

South Delhi, India: South Delhi is the area south of Connaught Place and Rajpath. This area has great historical and cultural importance. Hauz Khas, a shopper's paradise, is also home to historical monuments such as a madarsa (college), tombs, and a mosque built by Firoz Shah Tughluq, a ruler of the Tughlaq Dynasty. Visitors find art galleries and numerous shops selling furniture, clothes, and jewellery. Dilli Haat, sited opposite INA market, is yet another fashionable shopping arcade displaying the richness of Indian culture with stalls set up by craftsmen selling a reasonably-priced range of handicrafts and fabrics. There are also great places for a quick lunch or snack, or to savor a variety of authentic cuisine in South Delhi. The Bahai Temple, shaped like a lotus; Qutab Minar; Purana Qila; and Lodi Gardens are some of the other points of interest for a vacationer.
