“India is wonderful and Hotel Southern is great”

We stayed in a deluxe double room for 5 nights, it was clean and comfortable with air conditioning, a ceiling fan and a fully functioning en suite bathroom. This hotel is in a really good location, just five minutes walk from a really good shopping street full of silk, pashmina, crafts, spices etc and just a 10 minute journey by rickshaw to Connaught Place (although I did not really like it there, too many beggars and really busy and dirty) there is a big market place in the centre of Connaught Place but in my opinion the one near the hotel is better. Hotel Southern has a supermarket below it and another a couple of building along. The area is good but be a little careful of pick pockets at night, as is true of Delhi in general. We very much liked staying at this hotel, the staff were very efficient and friendly and the rooms are cleaned properly and regularly. The only negative that I can tell you is that if you are alight sleeper, this is perhaps not the best for you. The hotel is just off a busy main street and pigeons live on the window ledge. However, with so much to see and do you will probably be too tired to be disturbed and the noise issue is a small price to pay for the location and service.

Staff very friendly. Not many spoke English, but was able to understand. Very accommodating.

“Not bad but not so great”

I stayed in both the super deluxe and royal suites in the hotel. Royal suite was of course much better - with LCD TV, bigger room, better lighting and a cleaner & fancier bathroom. Super Deluxe was a standard room with basic facilities. Frankly, the royal suite didnt live up to the name of the room as such since there were lots of things which were turn offs such as lack of continuous hot water, shower curtain, towels, old packets of tea, lack of cutleries & cups, non-standardized furnishing of the rooms (since we stayed in two suites), etc. Super Deluxe was pretty alright for the money we paid. The place where it is located is not so pleasant. There were street dogs & random beggars all around which made the journey to the rooms unpleasant. Probably thats Delhi! Service was just about average. The staff spoke broken English, rendering the hotel not so useful for non-Indians. There were lapses like the food order through room service never came through, pick up from railway station was not done properly, cabs werent booked in advance as requested, etc. The breakfast setup was quite messy. The food was never ready on time and the staff seemed totally lost regarding this.

“Ridiculous Hotel with Poor Staff”

Would alert all fellow travellers, not to book this hotel at any cost. Its a big NO NO in Services, amenities, Food and basic courtesy. To put it pointwise : 1. It doesnt have hot and cold water in Summers it only provides boiling hot water straight from overhead tanks at terrace. 2. No options in food for breakfast if you are not a South Indian and even SOuth Indians will also complain on quality of the food. no wonder it is conveniently added as complimentary and even if you want to order anything else they dont have it simply because they dont prepare anything else. 3. SIze of their Royal suite is less than that of what any other good 2-Star may offer in their Executive/Deluxe category. 4. No where you'll find reception as chaotic as theirs, where probably there will be atleast 05 guys who dont know what they're suppose to do. Pathetic, disgusting, ridiculous on all counts. Strongly advised to avoid it.
