“Avoid this hotel at all costs”

I was expecting this to be a really top class hotel. I was bitterly disappointed. It was miles from anywhere, The description was totally misleading. It implied the hotel was beside the sea. It neglected to mention that there was a motorway in between. The location was awful. Miles from anything especially shops and entertainment. They played extremely loud music heavy rock music at the pool where we were trying to relax and would not change it when we asked. The staff were unhelpful. The cost for everything was exorbitant. The choice of eating establishment was very poor. The quality of the food was very poor considering the high price.

Area recommendations

I would recommend Raouche. It has excellent views over the coastline. It is also very close to the shopping districts and nightlife.

Shopping

The Hamra Street area is excellent for shopping. We got nice souvenirs and also very good value in clothes and shoes. Also, there are lots of places to eat at a reasonable cost.

“Le Royal de Beyrouth, bel hôtel, un peu loin de Beyrouth”

Ma femme est moi sommes restés contents de cet hôtel, avec quelques légers bémols au niveau du service au lobby et au Spa, personnel un peu distant et peu souriant, c'est dommage. 20 minutes pour aller en taxi au centre-ville, 25-30 jusqu'à l'aéroport. Magnifique vue de la skyline de Beyrouth. Pratique pour visiter Byblos. La chambre executive est spacieuse, comfortable. Salle de bain peut-être un peu vieillote, mais fonctionnelle.

Area recommendations

Byblos, magnifique, aussi bien les vestiges, que le très symphatique port. A Junieh - le Restaurant "Chez Sami" pour l'excellent poisson. A Beyrouth - le Misic Hall, si vous avez la chance de réserver, sinon faites le par avance, vous ne le regretterez pas.

Getting around

En taxi, demander les prix avant de monter. Acceptent sans différence les livres libanaises et les dollars américains.

“A 10 min de Beyrout centre, grand hotel de très bon standing”

Son emplacement au nord de Beyrout nécessite de prendre un taxi pour aller en ville.(éviter de louer une voiture, la conduite au Liban est beaucoup trop risquée, le code n'existe pas !) L'hotel a un contact sur place qui organise des visites de sites antiques avec des guides remarquables. Seuls bémols : le bruit : musique très forte autour de la piscine, aux restaurants... et la déco des chambres "deluxe" qui aurait besoin d'être complétée afin de coller aux "5 étoiles".

Traveller's tip

Très bonne base pour visiter le Liban et sa capitale, un peu moins pour s'imprégner de la vie nocturne des Libanais. La sécurité routière est un vrai problème au Liban, et il vaut mieux s'adresser à des conducteurs locaux plutôt que de se risquer sur la route ou dans les rues. Les villes un peu éloignées sont à visiter avec des personnes compétentes, pour des raisons de sécurité (routière et civile).
