"First Class Hotel , third class sound insulation"
Very nicely appointed, great first impression in foyer, polite, friendly and helpful staff, great location.
Really good sized and well fitted contemporary rooms let down by really rubbish acoustic issues for a hotel of this quality, you can hear and be heard in adjoining rooms at anything over a whisper and any meetings being held in the purpose built rooms is amplified and echoes up into the room corridors !!
Such a shame, spoils a good experience.
Went for a girls' shopping weekend. Had a great time.
All staff from concierge to front desk to cleaners and even staff encountered in lift etc were all so engaging/cheerful/helpful. It does make your day.
Rooms were small but we were not there during the day (out shopping), and out for dinner at night so really only there to sleep soundly.
"Staying in Sydney? Great location & city access."
This hotel was OK & reception was above average.
There are a few things that dragged the Oaks Goldsbrough down or maybe it was just our suite in particular?
It was nearly impossible no matter how one adjusted the tap settings to get a hot shower without being scalded & I mean scalded! This was exacerbated if someone used any cold water close by.
Very easy access from/to the Sydney International & Domestic airport/s.
Train to Central then light rail from Central getting off @ the 'Convention' stop & the Oaks Goldsbrough is just across the street.[maybe 50 metres].
Really good for older folk with Sydney transport's all day, all transport modes fare of $2.50 pp.
Don't forget the airport access fee of $11.60 - $13.00 pp.
Not in that discounted category? Then the added convenience & taxi fare for 2 or more, depending on time of day & traffic may work out to be less than public transport costs.
Although this hotel is not in the center city it has an easy, pedestrian only, connection to the heart of the city which makes for a very pleasant walk along Darling Harbor.
The hotel staff were extremely helpful and super professional. The room was nicely decorated and spacious. All services were coordinated without any disruption to me. One disappointing part is that the gym was being renovated and some renovation noise was heard sporadically, but the manager made a direct call to apologize and offer a complimentary breakfast. That was really a great example how they care for their customers. Overall, I had a great experience and would stay here again in the future.
Hotel is in a great location, the room was tidy, and the shower was amazing compared to what I've got at home. Having the ability to self cater, and with 2 supermarkets close by meant I was able to cut some costs by self catering on certain things
This was actually a great stay. The staff were obliging and helpful. The room was spacious, clean and had everything I needed for the week. The only complaint I had was that the heater seemed to be blowing cold air on the first night and there was no extra blankets in the room. I mentioned this to the desk staff the next morning and they fixed my heater straight away and had it on and the apartment warmed by the time I returned (and gave me two extra blankets just in case). Would stay here again!
We enjoyed our stay. Great spot. Close to light rail, buses, close to Central Station, Paddy's Market and ferries. Quick trip by light rail to Star City. Hotel was nice. Room and bed were comfortable and clean.
Pocket Guide: Sydney Darling Harbour - Pyrmont Hotels
An easy downhill walk from the city centre, and also accessible by monorail, Darling Harbour is home to Sydney’s main convention and exhibition facilities, and also acts an entertainment hot spot. Overlooking the water on Cockle Bay are pulsating night-and-day bars, cafés, and restaurants, plus an aquarium, wildlife park, and free maritime museum. The nearby Chinese Gardens provide a serene distraction.
