“Great Location, acceptable room”

The hotel is a bit difficult to find, as it is located down a narrow alley. To be fair, this does add some character, and after going through the front entrance, the main foyer has a plenty of charm. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The hallways were showing signs of age. The rooms were very simple, but quite clean. Comparable to a new 3 star hotel in the US.

“Perfect spot in Cusco”

Very close to the highlights of Cusco and an oasis of comfort and quiet from the busy streets. The building is of great historic interest and authenitically renovated to preserve the history. The service was top notch in every way. And, on top of all this, a great value. We highly recommend this Novotel.

“"Would definitely stay here again"”

We traveled a 'red-eye' from California to Cusco via Lima. Our trip was trekking the Salkantay Trail to Machu Picchu from lodge to lodge. We booked a couple of extra days in Cusco to help acclimate. We arrived at the hotel early in the morning and were greeted with Coca tea in a large glass covered courtyard. The hotel was once a house and still offers the charm and elegance of a beautiful hacienda. The covered courtyard protected us from the elements. All staff members were gracious and caring. We were given our rooms early but didn't mind waiting in the warmth of the large court. Novotel was perfect. They took good care of us while in Cusco, held our extra luggage until we returned (we stayed our last night in Peru at Novotel) and provided us with transportation to the airport. A great place to stay.We definately would stay here again.

Area recommendations
The Main/central square is a good and safe place to eat, tour and absorb the culture.
When to go
October seemed best. The time is between the wet and dry seasons.
Getting there
LAN Airlines is good. Just be sure to continually check for flight updtaes and changes.
Getting around
Walking the town is easy and (call me naive) felt very safe.
What to pack
Layers... the weather changes quickly.
Must see
Tour the museums and learn the history. I learned so much about Cusco and its roll in the Americas.
Shopping
The large main market is a must to view the culture and foods of the region.
Dining
Pizza... believe it or not... is everywhere. PachaPapa was the best. Prepared in a wood fired oven in front of you in an open courtyard...YUM.

“Hotel stayover enroute to Machu Picchu from Lima”

This is a beautiful colonial hotel situated conveniently just off the main town square in central Cuzco. It is very conveniently located to restaurants, shops, Cuzco Cathedral, and The Inca museum and museum of Precolumbian art. The rooms are contemporary and very clean. The bathrooms meet the expectations of even the most discerning Western traveler. My king bed was very comfortable and the room was equipped with a personal safe. The hotel has a novel architecture with the central courtyard of this colonial mansion covered by a transparent glass roof to allow use during incliment weather. Our stay came with daily breakfast included with the price. The breakfast buffet was complete with dinner meats, fresh eggs and the typical Continental pastries, juices etc. The staff are predominantly handsome and polite younger men who truly maintain a professional demeanor. The only drawback was that we utilized the travel service recommended by the hotel. The agent was disorganized, aloof and we spent a great deal of time trying to solidify our arrangements to go to Machu Picchu. Call the hotel in advance and confirm that there is no strike as the frequent strikes can cancel out travel arrangements to Machu Picchu.

Area recommendations
Highly advise staying close to Cuzco Cathedral. It is a wonderful neighborhood of winding cobblestone streets, relaxed cafes and beautiful Colonial period structures. The activities in the town square in themselves are entertaining over cappucino. eg parades, animals, llamas, etc.
Getting around
Plan for 1-2 days to adjust to the high altitude of Cuzco. The coca tea only partially alleviates the symptoms. This was a convenient time to casually stroll the neighborhood shops and museums.
Must see
The museum of Precolumbian art is small and easily navigatable within an hour. It has an extraordinary collection of Precolumbian ceramics.

Cusco, Peru: The Old and the New World intersect in Cusco: This fair city was remade in the image of Spain after conquistadors crushed the Inca in the 1500s. This colonial heritage is most evident at the Plaza de Armas, home to three baroque churches. To see the vestiges of the Incas, pass through the bohemian enclave of San Blas in the hills above central Cusco, and head north to the Sacsayhuaman fortress.
