“Excellent location for visit to Machu Picchu”

The hotel is excellent for visiting the ruins. We had 5.30 breakfast and beat the crowds, and it was useful as I got a bit sick and was able to go back to our room whilst my husband did more exploring. Hotel service was a bit production line, with strict checking and checkout times. We were upgraded to a mountain view room which was fantastic. The room was very small, but ok for a night. Gardens and setting spectacular. Worth the very high price for the convenience and setting.

“At the gate into Machu Picchu”

We were surprised to find quality accommodation right at the entrance gate to Machu Picchu. Being able to have a shower, a meal and then sink into a spotlessly clean bed and watch TV (some channels in English) after a day of climbing up and down stone stairways was a luxury, and we could go out early the next day before facing the bus and train rides back to Cusco. Worth the cost.

Area recommendations
Cusco for two days, Machu Picchu for one and a half days
When to go
Late Peruvian summer
Getting there
Fly to Cusco, then train bus combo depending on state of railway line. Use a travel agent ! Very hard to get accurate information on-line
What to pack
Water proof outer clothing, layers. Weather changeable
Shopping
Be careful not to overdo it! Fabrics are beautiful but remember your weight limit on planes.

“Backstage at Machu Pichuu”

When we stayed at the MP sanctuary Lodge,, the last few hours of the day was almost as though we owned one of the Seven New Wonders of the World. That's because everybody else had to go back to town to their hotel or the train to Cusco. By staying at the top, we avoided virtually all of the busyness at Machu Pichuu. The following morning, we ate our great breakfast and people watched as the line-up got fairly backed up. So we had a slow paced breakfast while the line disappeared, and then we went in with no wait. We still were in the Ruins before sunrise to get those magnificent sunrise photos that continue to have us in awe. My recommendation-----SPLURGE!!!!!!!!!!!

“FABULOUS!!”

Couldn't wish for a more awe-inspring location, which was matched by a truly memorable stay in a fabulous hotel! The location is perfect for realizing the dream of a lifetime to watch the sunrise at Machu PIcchu. Every aspect of the service exceeded our expectations, the food was 6-star standard, and we will have difficulty topping this experience for our 25th wedding anniversary next year! We would recommend this hotel without hesitation, and would stay here again in a heartbeat!

“Great location, excellent service”

This is part of the review I had posted in TripAdvisor.com. We splurged on on an overnight stay, which enabled us to line up at 5:15am for the Wayna (Huayana) Picchu hike permits. There were about 30 persons ahead of us who had hiked up from Aqua Calientes. We easily got the 7am slot & went back for breakfast & then make our way (takes about 7-10 min) to WP entarnce. We did get to see the sun rising over MP. The climb is steep, but not difficult for moderately fit persons. We had ample time to get showers after getting back before checking out at 11am. The rooms & beds are great. Price includes full board including alcohol & my teens gorged on the free minibar. Food is great & service is excellent. A night's stay includes breakfast, lunch & dinner. There are 2 computers in the restaurant/bar, but internet connection speed is very very slow. They should really fix that (faster wireless connection to AC). We used their shared day room after checkout at 11am as our train was late in the afternoon. We went back after lunch for more leisurely sightseeing. They should mention the day room facility in their website. The day room does get very hot as it is all glass with some shades. It is located top of the garden & has 2 bathrooms with showers. There is a hot tub in the garden that is not listed in their website. We did not know bout that & could not use it as we did not bring our swim suits. All in all, the lodge is highly recommended though a bit pricey.

“Simply the best hotel in South America!”

You simply cannot stay anywhere else and experience Machu Picchu like at the Sanctuary Lodge. Having the ability to get up, catch the sunrise at the park, walk back to the hotel for a delicious breakfast, shower, go back to the park for a couple hours, then retreat to the hotel during the peak afternoon hours before enjoying MP at sundown -- seriously, you can't put a price on that. Our room was nice: Queen bed with super soft sheets and plush comforter. Bathroom was excellent with a hot massage shower. The towels were super soft and 6 feet long! A mini-fridge contains water, soda and snacks to eat at no cost. The view out our window was Huayna Picchu and the front gate to the site. Wi-fi signal was very strong and reliable in our rooms (free as well). Flat screen TV with dozens of channels including CNN and Fox News. The food was amazing. Alpaca steak one night, grilled ostrich the next. Breakfast was a huge buffet AND cooked to order items from a menu. We only ate lunch in the "guest's only" dining room (and not the buffet with the rest of the tourist crowd) but found the hamburgers, freshly caught trout, and chicken cordon blue all wonderful. Seriously, the "le petite gateau" chocolate dessert is almost as amazing as Machu Picchu itself. Meals and all drinks are included -- including room service -- so stuff yourself silly and enjoy the great meals the chef prepares. Service was impeccable. Simply the best!

“Perfect location, but soooo expensive...”

The location is perfect and our room was very comfortable, and the service was outstanding. The food is average and the early (11am) check-out time may cause some logistical problems. It is a nice touch to have free drinks in the bar and free snacks and soft drinks in your room, but no one comes to Macchu Picchu for free booze; on the other hand, seeing Machu Picchu after 4:30pm without the hordes of tourists is priceless! Also staying at the Sanctuary makes it so much easier to see the sunrise and then hike the Wayna Picchu (and you can be the first in line to get a stamp for Wayna Picchu in the morning). If I ever go back, I would stay there again, if I can afford it. Machu Picchu is truly one of the wonders of the world.

“Machu Picchu”

After all of the hiking we did the price of the hotel was worth it! We were able to walk to our room and rest. The employees were very helpful and attentive.
