“Cute clean hotel with lots of character.”
...and fríendly staff, good breakfast, good central location.
“Mixed review; Quaint, and very accomodating staff with cold, dark and cramped lodging”
Staff was very, very nice and helpful, and promptly accomodated every request, if you could find them and they weren't trying to service other people...frequently, the place seemed understaffed. Hotel is quaint and happily situated. No heat, tho it ran into the 30s at night. While one was warm enough under the blankets at night, it felt somewhat like camping... the minute you left the bed, it was cold. Eventually, we got a space heater, which helped somewhat. While the courtyard is quaint looking, the seating was very uncomfortable and it is outdoors, so it was also was cold and dark at night. The only other place to relax was the bar, which was inviting, but dark, frequently unmanned and, also, cold. The bed was a fabulous and comfortable king in a loft. Under the loft, was the seating area and bathroom, which were very small and cramped; The desk barely fit a laptop and a few pieces of paper. There was no other table top or counter on which to put your things. Other than that, the room had a fouton for sitting. With little space for luggage, suitcases end up on the fouton and then one has little place to sit. Lighting was frugal; had to be in the bath or by the window (where there was no seating) to read. Bath was clean with nice hot water, but the shower door leaked and a flood on the floor was unavoidable when showering. Larger than standard rooms may be more comfortable, but they are pricey. Summer may be more pleasant.
“Lots of character”
Everything was great - we really enjoyed the hotel stay (except... no TV in the room and you may have to work a bit to find wifi access from your room).
“extremely unsatisfied”
i will not recommend this hotel.
“Unique and charming”
We stayed at this hotel on our way to Machu Pichu and on the way back. We loved the charm and beauty of it. Good service, courteous and helpful staff. Comfy beds. I loved that it was not a canned place.
“Beautiful Hotel Just Far Enough From the Bustle”
When I pictured Cuzco, Arqueologo (sp?) was the place I pictured: arranged like a Spanish villa with a big courtyard, art on on the walls, a great bar and lounge, a good restaurant and a terrific friendly staff. They have a great comp breakfast spread with round-the-clock coca tea. And I think they even have art events at the hotel. My room was upstairs on the second floor and it was a loft style arrangement with a spiral staircase and beds tucked into the vaulted ceilings - very nice. No TV. I stayed in several hotels in Cuzco and this was the nicest. The Expedia deal made the hotel almost half price. Location was very good - maybe a little high up the hill for the more out-of-breath travelers, but smack between San Blas and the Plaza de las Armas.
“Not bad but a few hicups”
Nice Hotel and in a pretty good location fairly high up, close to the main square and only a short 2-3 min walk to the centre. Rooms were great, my only beef was there was no TV and the maintenance staff kept insisting that i let them in to adjust the heater which became a real pain in the butt! as they kept it on min and its very cold at night, thankfully the dooners are about a foot thicker than normal!! other than the heater and the TV this hotel is very clean, very well run and would be my pick again if travelling back to Cusco!
“Excellent location, lovely courtyard”
This hotel was perfect. The location was great. Walking distance to the square and close to the San blas district (which in loved for the hippies and shops) The restaurant was delish as well. The hotel was very accomidating and let us switch rooms two nights into our stay (we were next to the lobby and do to very early check outs of people heading to machhu pichhu it was noisy there early). Overall we loved the hotel and I strongly recommend staying there. :)
“Loved It”
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was excellent, very close to the squares which were in the center of Cusco old city. The rooms are unique with a loft bedroom with bamboo ceilings and a very modern shower considering how quaint the hotel is. We were very satisfied!
“UpHill but Wonderful”
The beauty of this hotel is the courtyard, its picturesque and gorgeous, the ambiance of the hotel is calm and quiet, a perfect break from reality or the busy markets of the town. The best thing about this hotel were the rooms, abundant amount of space. We stayed one night in a double and had a sofa, space to walk around, a large enough and clean and well kept bathroom, good sized and modern shower, lovely wooden beds and super soft mattresses:P Adorable decor, i really didnt want to leave:) on the way back from the Inca Trail, we checked in at midnight, had our goods kept in storage returned to our new room, free of charge. this was a twin, two storey and as nicely decorated. Only thing missing was the tea/cofee making machine in the twin room, the upstairs fits just the beds but the sky windows are lovely. Kind service, only comment would be, reception doesnt sit at the desk all the time, so you kinda have to wait till someones back on their desk to get attended. And, if your getting acclimattized to the height in cusco, the uphill walk up the narrow alley to the hotel...can be a little strenuous, but a quaint, very picturesque hotel. Breakfasst options could be improved id say, there were very limited choices, but on the plus the restaurant was decorated charmingly. I would return on my next visit.

Cusco, Peru: The Old and the New World intersect in Cusco: This fair city was remade in the image of Spain after conquistadors crushed the Inca in the 1500s. This colonial heritage is most evident at the Plaza de Armas, home to three baroque churches. To see the vestiges of the Incas, pass through the bohemian enclave of San Blas in the hills above central Cusco, and head north to the Sacsayhuaman fortress.
