“Lovely hideaway”
This hotel is a great hideaway for those looking for isolation. If you're a young single, this is not the place because it is not a party spot, but if you're a young couple or a couple of any age, it is a wonderful romantic getaway. You feel like you are hidden in the tropical forest with your own beach because when we were there it was not crowded. There are lizards running around everywhere outside and the vegetation is beautiful. Those looking for a megaresort in a built up area, this is not the place for you, but if you want somewhere with personality and character that seems like your own secret spot away from it all, this is the place for you. The staff is very sweet and warm and welcoming. The only drawback was that our room was in a little building far in the back so it was a bit of a walk to the ocean. Also, there are a bunch of mosquitos, which we didn't encounter when staying the other part of our vacation in Willemstad city center. Also, there isn't much outside the resort itself so we spent the whole time on the property. If you are a scuba diver or like snorkeling, it is a great spot and they have a dive shop where you can rent everything you need right there. We went snorkeling and saw some beautiful fish. The restaurant view along the ocean is gorgeous, we could sit there forever!
“Honeymoon November 2011”
Great honeymoon location. Private, quiet, great swimming and snorkeling.
“Perfect relaxing get away!!”
Better than expected across the board. Needed a get away from our hectic east coast city lives and this place hit the spot! Turned the Droid off on Day 1 and didn't power it back-up until our plane touched down back home. Beaches were awesome- definitely make the 10 minute drive to Knip on one day. Diving was surreal. Food and service was great. Heinrich and Edmund are the bomb! Going back next year - boo yeah.
“Great experience in Westpunt, Curacao”
I took my husband to Lodge Kura Hulanda for a dive trip to celebrate a milestone birthday. We had a wonderful experience! We stayed in an ocean front studio rooom, which had a covered veranda as well as an open-air patio, looking across a low stone wall at the ocean (rooms are atop a cliff). The hotel staff was fabulous...when we came back to our room from diving, they had put a bottle of champagne in the refrigerator and decorated the room with balloons, streamers, and "happy birthday" banners. We did not do the all-inclusive plan, but we did eat most meals at the Lodge. The food was good, but a bit pricey; if you plan to eat most meals there, all-inclusive is probably the way to go. We tried several local restaurants (Jaanchies, Landhuis David, Sol Food), and had good experiences. Two are fairly close to the Lodge, but we opted to drive as it would have required a longish (10-15 minute) walk down some narrow roads to get to them. The dive operation at the Lodge (Ocean Encounters West) was excellent...competent, experienced dive masters, low-key attitude, and great dive sites. The "house reef" (Alice in Wonderland) was excellent for both diving and snorkeling...it's regarded as one of the best dive sites on the island. The only negative comment I have is regarding the tub/shower in the room...it was very deep and VERY hard to get in and out of. If you have any mobiliyt concerns, definitely ask the hotel if they have any rooms with a more accessible tub/shower.
“Not beaten”
Sometimes when you go off the beaten path you find yourself deserted, alone and scared. This is not the case with The Lodge at Kura Hulanda. The lodge is as far away from Williamstad as you can possibly get in Curacao but that is still only 35 minutes from town if you choose to leave the resort. If you don't want to rent a car the resort offers two roundtrips each day into town. This resort should be considered rustic luxury. It has tremendous natural features, tropical gardens, standard rooms, excellent views and for an island the food was surprisingly good. The service was great to include a young bartender named "Harol" who believed that your wish was his command. Every night he went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. We were there for a wedding that went off without a hitch. The resort had arranged for everything from food to hairdressers and nothing was late or substandard. I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for relaxation.
“Distant escape”
The entire resort was very nice overall. I would not recommend the garden view lodge room because we stayed in that the first night and felt like we were stuck in a closet, so we chose to upgrade and the 2nd floor garden view room was wonderful with a beautiful patio. The pool and beach were wonderful and it was very convenient to have a dive shop right there. However, the food was underwhelming and we ended up driving through the center of the island to find a grocery store to make the food on our trip a bit more bearable. The best things about the island, especially this part of it, are the beaches, snorkeling/scuba diving, and kayaking.
“Best Secret in Curacao”
This Hotel is about 30-40 minutes from the airport and at the end of the island, away from the main town. If your looking to relax, this is the Hotel for you. It offers the luxury of a 5 star resort, excellent service, good food and a quiet atmosphere. Activities are limited to Snorkeling, Scuba Diving, Kayak, etc. Nice beach but you need water shoes, nice pool, etc. Other than the Hotel there is Nothing Near-By so if you'll want to go to town you'll need to rent a car or take a taxi. We loved the Hotel though and we will definitely return.
“Will definitely come back here!”
Great hotel, excellent service. Room was wel equipped and tasteful, beautiful ocean view and big terrace, super nice and helpful personnel. We arrived late at night and they made us (free!) sandwiches. The pool is great, the restaurant was fine and the nearby beaches are gorgeous.
“Beautiful location...shame about the food.”
The hotel location is idylic set on a white sand beach a world away from the hustle and bustle of Willemstad. The rooms are adequate, spacious and clean. the only let down was there was no facilities for tea/ coffee which on early dive mornings would have been appreciated. Dive centre excellent, we took own gear and hired tanks/ weights only. navigating independant dives was easy and worked out very cheap. Did not feel the need to go on any boat dives at all as the shore diving is incredible. The major let down was the food at this hotel. Advertised are 3 restaurants, Watamula, Kalki Grill and Christoffel. During our entire hliday the only restarurant was the Christoffel wth an unchanging menu. The menu was limited, especially after consistent upset stomachs accross our party following many meals. particularly the chicken. Due to to lack of options, we had no choice but to return and discovered the safest food to eat was the daily catch- which alternates betweeen Barracuda and Tuna. Little variety but allowed tummies to settle! Advise any potential visitor to stock up on food drinks before arriving at this hotel.
“2 star hotel at 4 star price”
This property is in need of a good scrubbing. A power washing over the outside areas is desperatley needed. The pool also looks crummy and the fitness center has outdated equipment, no towels, very dirty. The mattress is awful - I am still stiff. Sheets are worn thin. Mold in the bathroom. They provide a coffee pot but no coffee. You have to buy that in the gift shop. Guess what? The gift shop doesn't open till 10:30 AM. Service is hot or miss - some of the employees have a limited understanding of English. The bellman was a breath of fresh air. Many of the employees seem tired and bored. We spent the 1st 4 nights of our vacation at the Hyatt - there is absolutely no comparison. Skip this and stay at The Hyatt.
