“good location, but!”
Good location for diving, but beware of problem with power for US current! It took 5 hours to get one adaptor from the hotel so that I could use my CPAP machine. Adaptors are not easily available as I thought. These can be purchased for $2 and the hotel made a big deal about having them.
“2 Americans had fun . . . plus a few disappointments and surprises”
We enjoyed our first visit to Curaçao (9 days | Nov. 2011) quite a bit, and were somewhat satisfied with Lions Dive -- which has strong points and at least a few challenges. --> BEST ASPECTS: Ideal setting on a clean, ample-size beach with walk-in snorkeling (superb, thanks to breakwall with submerged plant growth that's a fish magnet). Plenty of adjustable loungers with cushions, thatched-roof palapas, wooden huts. Kid-safe wading areas, food/drink service, seaside massages/manicures, a few nearby shops, short walk (beach or roadside sidewalk) to popular seafood restaurant/club (Mambo Beach). --> OTHER AMENITIES: Twice-daily free shuttles to supermarket and downtown. Public bushalte (stop) right outside driveway for convenient access ($1 US) to downtown and popular Jaan Thiel Beach (highly recommended). On-site car rental (National/Alamo). Free terminal to print boarding passes. Three Internet terminals ($5/30 mins). --> DOWNSIDES: No tour desk/conceirge.Inconsistent staff at desk, where check-in was handled w/out warmth or responsiveness to questions.Bus question later stumped 1st clerk. Housekeeping poor (floor stayed sandy, shower soap dispenser unfilled 2 days, past guest water bottle under bed). No hair dryer until requested. Snorkels/fins provided for fee, though site promotes snorkeling. --> OFF-SITE RECOMMENDATION: Walk along curbed road (5 mins) to Sea Side Terrace + adjacent Surfe & Turf small beachside restaurants for value grub 'n grog. Enjoy trip!
“Lions Dive”
As other reviewers have said, this is basically a package holiday resort for the dutch with a strong bias towards diving. The service at bars etc can be slow and possibly described as "ignorant" but basically it is not "American" style service...i.e. you have to ASK to be served, thereafter they are fairly happy to serve you and they may appear to "forget" about you for a while but they are simply trying to serve everyone in the most timely manner considering the number of staff and requests for service that they get, bear in mind that there may be many other requests that you cannot see such as from the beach etc
“Solid Hotel”
We stayed at the Lion's Dive in June (4 adults and 1 toddler) in one of their 2-bedroom apartments, which was just perfect for us. Our toddler had a BLAST between the beach, kiddie pool, and the seaquarium next door. Food is ok. Great for kids, but maybe not so luxurious for couples. Husband did alot of diving which was perfect for him.
“Lions Dive- an excellent choice”
One of the nicest hotels we've stayed at in over 40 countries. The front desk could not have been more accommodating- getting us to our room at 9am instead of the typical 3pm checkin. The hotel was spotless, the beach pristine, and the dive shop operation top notch and very, very professional. While we hadn't planned on returning to Curacao, our experience at Lions Dive has changed our mind and we look forward to a longer stay next time. The given rating of 3 1/2 stars seems too conservative- it deserves 4. Highly recommended.
“A lot of potential, but no one seems to care...”
We love to snorkel and had been looking forward to the trip to Curacao after very delightful stays in Aruba and Bonaire. Unfortunately, the room we were assigned did not match our expectations. We had paid for water view and we could see the water beyond the crane that took up most of the view. The room was dim with dark furniture which was very marred. The shower floor in the bath was very discolored or just plain dirty. I asked for it to be cleaned, but that did not happen. There were no amenities in the bath either, outside the hairdryer. It has been a long time since I have been in a hotel that did not provide shampoo. Even the lock for the in room safe carried a daily charge. The electric voltage was incompatible, but the description of the hotel indicated that adapters could be borrowed. They were not available and when we left our cell phone and laptop at the desk to be charged as promised, they came back without being charged. Overall, the beach and restaurants were fine, despite poor service at the "fine dining" venue, but the experience was not a friendly one. The hotel is not a good value.
“Returning to upgrades”
This was our second time staying with the god folks at Lion's Dive. Since our last stay (which was acceptable on all accounts) the resort has tripled in size, and upgraded the older rooms. The service was great and staff helpful. Food at Nemo's was expensive, but worth the price, easily ranking among our best restaurant experiences on the island. I would recommend, if possible, requesting rooms away from the front desk, as EVERYONE checking in and out rolls their luggage to their rooms, and the pool area tends to be a little noisy. The dive operation was also superlative. Boats were large, well equipped and the staff experienced. I might suggest diving sites further away from the resort for variety, as most of the dive we did were in very close proximity from the resort and very similar to each other. Overall I highly recommend, and in my opinion, can't be beat for the price
“Gets better every year”
This trip stayed at the new apartments and loved it. Spacious, excellent views, every detail was considered when they designed this expansion. The infinity pool is nice, the shallow kids pool nearby good for parents to keep an eye out, the open-wall design outstanding. Made a big difference in our enjoyment this trip and felt more like home than hotel.
“Great for divers and family!”
Great resort. Clean and the staff is very friendly. The pool by the apartments is great. The beach is awesome. We went diving and snorkeling and the Sea Aquarium with the Dolphin Academy is great fun for the family. Definitely a dream vacation.
“nice place”
This was a very nice hotel. You need to make sure that you stay in the updated main campus of the hotel. You need to be right on the beach. the resort is extensive and there are newer updated rooms that are much nicer than the old.
