“Beautiful modern hotel”

Hotel is almost finished, the rooms are beautifully set amongst various tropical plants and private entrance to salt-water pools from private terrace and the beach is close walk away. Room itself is modern and very well taken care off. Nice restaurant at the beach if you want to stay close to hotel. Most other places you really need to drive.

“will stay some where else”

I am diver and thought a dive resort would be geared for divers but that is not the case. Had items stolden from room and the local bars were loud all night.

“Unique tropical environment but still working out the kinks”

The rooms are beautifully set amongst various tropical plants and winding salt-water pools and the beach is close walk away. However, the resort is obviously still under construction w many of the buildings still to be completed. Despite some initial problems w our room, the nearby beach and amenities quickly made us forget our complaints.

Area recommendations
The Mambo beach area is popular and beautiful w many various activities: dining, snorkeling, swimming, sunbathing, movie on the beach, music.

“Lovely resort, but don't expect to be pampered.”

Charming rooms, but very basic. Air conditioner was not strong enough to cool the room. Shower did not drain very well, so limited the time you could spend in there. Pools were lovely, but salt water. You had to pay if you wanted to watch any real TV. Very limited channels that were free. Noise coming from nightclub at night, difficult to sleep. Would not stay there again.

“Hotel liegt ausserhalb Willemstad, man kann mit kleinen Bussen alle 10 Min. in die City gelangen”

Hotel liegt am schönen Badestrand, die Anlage um die Bungalows ist wundervoll angelegt und gepflegt. Die Pools, die sich zwischen den einstöckicken Häusern befinden sind herrliche Oasen, jedoch zum Schwimmen weniger geeignet, ist mehr fürs Auge. Zum Strandrestaurant gibt es einen direkten Zugang, hier kann man gut Frühstücken ( Taubenplage!) und Essen, Als Verbesserungsvorschlag würde ich Moskitonetze über den Betten empfehlen.

Unser Lieblingsrestaurant war "Grill-King", in Willemstad, direkt am Meer gelegen, gute Cocktails, aufmerksames, freundliches Personal und sehr gutes Essen. Preisleistungsverhältnis absolut o.k.

“Kontiki Beach Resort; prima, maar niet aan de Beach en pakeerplaats kant”

Kontiki Beach Resort is een nieuw en modern resort met een zeer mooie vormgeving, infrastructuur (appartementen, tuinen, zwembaden) en behulpzaam personeel. Toch hebben we een nare 'nasmaak' overgehouden aan ons 5 dagen verblijf. Wij hebben Kontiki niet geboekt als pakket, maar los via Expedia. Bij het inchecken kregen wij een 'Ocean View' appartement (4322) toegewezen; dicht bij het strand (Cabana Beach Club) en prima uitzicht (na openen van de voordeur) over de Caribean Sea. De eerste twee nachten waren prima; goeie bedden, voldoende tot goede voorzieningen. Bij het aanbreken van het weekend (vrijdag, zaterdag en zondag) veranderde onze nachtrust. Gelukkig zijn wij niet vies van een goed feestje; zeker niet op vakantie en met 26 graden 's avond op het strand. Toch hebben we ons geergerd aan het feit dat Gregor Salto tot 0400 uur 's nachts -voor je gevoel een meter verwijderd van je bed - z'n draaitafel gebruikt als onsamenhangend gedreun. Niets ten nadele van House muziek, maar Mambo Beach, dat 150 meter verderop ligt, blijkt dan met een Ocean View App. opeens wel heel erg irritant dichtbij te zijn. De nacht erop bleek Wet and Wild aan de beurt en was het minstens zo erg. Gelukkig heeft het personeel hun best gedaan en hebben ze voor de laatste nacht (zondag), laat in de avond een rustiger gelegemn app. geregeld. Eén voordeel; de tassen voor de volgende (reis)dag waren daardoor al snel ingepakt.

Getting around
Taxi; vraag naar prijs vooraf; ze hebben geen meter, zoals wel eens vermeld wordt in reisboeken Huurauto; prima en zeer flexibel (WA +) en evt., stuurslot als je 's avonds ergens parkeer waar geen goeie/garante bewaking is. 's avonds niet onnodig alleen of in klein groepje over straat lopen buiten centrum en/of buitenaf.

“Sponsors gezocht voor onze terug reis.”

Nou effe een paar dagen er tussen uit. Oke het complex is nog niet helemaal af, maar van de verbouwing hebben we totaal geen last gehad. Het was zelfs relex om de bouw vakkers te zien werken. De kamer was perfect, lokatie prima en de tuin prachtig. Het ligt direkt aan Mambo Beach dus er is elke avond wel wat te doen.En als je van muziek houd en een drankje zit je daar goed. Wij hebben het fantastie's naar ons zin gehad en zoeken nu nog sponsors om weer zo snel mogenlijk teug te gaan.

Traveller's tip
Als je van snorkelen houd ga dan naar de grote knip echt prachtig.
