“BLUE BAY IS AWESOME”

I thoroughly enjoyed my staff at Blue Bay. The accommodations were excellent--the room was clean and spacious; the kitchen was well-stocked; the applicances were high quality; there was plenty of room; and the balcony was very relaxing The resort is centrally located and I did not have any problems driving around the island. I would highly recommend the resort if asked

Area recommendations
the westpunt area was quite interesting--some nice beaches and dive sites were available

“Stay Elsewhere”

I really wanted to like this place given the reviews & the photos. I will say that the hotel villas were a good size for the price. You get what you pay for though. This place is not close to anything so factor in extra $ for transport (25 for a taxi one way or over 60/day for a rental). Don’t forget any of your essentials because there is nowhere to purchase them on the property. Their dive shop sells more overpriced swim suits than actual basics so factor in a trip to the grocery store (50 US/roundtrip). The local stores do not sell OTC medication either so I had to nurse my allergic reaction to something that bit me the first day, with aloe vera, for 2 days. There’s a pharmacy once we made it into town 2 days later but nowhere close to this hotel so be careful. The surrounding area of the hotel is awful! Luckily this place was set back quite a bit. The best thing we ate while there was the French fries, w/o the lump of mayo they pile on (sad I know). Everything else,so/so. Also, they stretch the exchange rate quite a bit! The US $ is worth half of their money (10 US to pay 5 Guilder) but this is NOT the exchange rate so exchange as much as you can BEFORE you get there; the US airport had a better rate. Ex. bottle of water there is 5 US. Lastly, the rooms are cleaned every 3rd day & many things in the room didn’t work – the bedroom tv and neither of the phones, so we had to walk to the lobby every time we needed to make a call. Spend the money and stay somewhere better.

Area recommendations
Punda/Otrabanda because it's close to the town, pharmacy, shopping and nightlife. Unfortunately, it was on the water but not close to a beach.
Getting around
A taxi will cost you 25 each way and a rental will cost you at least 60 a day so factor that in.
What to pack
Bug Spray Antihistamine for possible allergic reactions Sunscreen All essentials because they provide nothing but towels
Must see
Snorkeling was the best thing

“Wonderful Hotel...Beautiful Beach & Views”

This was my first time traveling to Curacao & I must say that even though the Hotel is still up & coming I had an amazing time. Their beach by far is the best on that side of the island. Also, the rooms are very modern/contemporary, the staff is very helpful and friendly, and the views are just amazing! FYI: If you bring your laptop, Internet connection is very slow when available & there is only one computer in their reception area. Also, need to bring your own wash/face cloths as they are not available. Other than that, The Blue Bay Resort was a wonderful choice & my husband & I were very happy with our choice.

Area recommendations
I stayed near the capital which is Willemstad so I can only recommend that area. However, I was told that there are some other areas that are just as nice with more beaches.
Getting around
You must rent a car if you plan to really see the city. Renting a car in Curacao is very easy & having a car gives you & your family lots of flexibility to move about. Most of the main highways/roads are safe and the people are friendly & helpful. Public transportation is not reliable and if you are staying at a resort & taking a taxi is almost as expensive as renting a car, so if you plan on extra activities that require you leaving your facility, then renting a car may be your best option.

“Beautiful Blue Bay”

The villas were a great size. The outdoor patio area was large and absolutely beautiful. The kitchen is really nice-but FYI there's no oven. And living room/kitchen has sliding doors that you can open up to the patio...but beware-there's lizards everywhere. One snuck in our villa and we never did find it. You do need to rent a car in order to get to the supermarket. It's too far to walk. The beach at Blue Bay is cool-it's very small and quiet. I didn't love that there were no water sports. There's scuba diving but I just wanted to go out in a boat and they didn't have anyone that could take me-and they were actually trying to sell the boats. I didn't love that there's only one restaurant but I suppose they figure you're cooking in your villa so I got over it. Only ate there for dinner once. There's a LOT of construction going on in Blue Bay so that was very disturbing when I would want to go read on my patio in the morning. There's a pool in the middle of the villa area....I didn't get to enjoy it because massive iguanas were swimming in it so that sucked. Also, beware of the mosquitos. I should've heeded the warnings to buy the bug spray....get it. There's no spa, there's only a massage therapist that would do massages on the beach or come to your room. I chose to go downtown instead and get a spa treatment at the spa within the Renaissance Hotel. Overall, it was a very relaxing trip and the biggest highlight was the beautiful villa and quiet beach.

Area recommendations
The downtown area is really the only area we spent a lot of time in. We would usually start at the Renaissance and walk over the bridge to Punda. On the Otrabanda side is the Kura Hulanda museum which is really cool. Punda starts to get more like a local area (similar to any neighborhood in NYC) so that was cool as well. There's not that much happening anywhere else in the island that we saw.
Getting there
I think you can only get to Curacao through Miami. Expedia arranged for us to have ground transportation which was great. We also changed the time that they were supposed to pick us up for our departure and they were more than accomodating.
Getting around
We drove everywhere. Getting downtown would only take about 10 minutes. One night we were stuck in the Renaissance parking lot for over 2 hrs because of some crazy traffic. Other than that, there was rarely traffic.
What to pack
Standard Caribbean gear-shorts, dresses, swimwear, sunblock. Don't forget the bug spray-the mosquitos are no joke.
Dining
I actually never got particularly great food. None of the restaurants were very authentically Caribbean/Curacao. Mostly Italian, Mexican, American food. And there were crabs and lobsters crawling all around but I rarely if ever saw them on menus.
Outdoors or beach
The beach at Blue Bay is quiet and relaxing. Be careful of the rocks on the beach and even in the water. They're pretty big so you could hurt yourself if you're not paying attention. Also, watch out for the pelicans.

“Great villas”

This resort was beautiful. The gardens and villas are beautifully maintained. The beach is very nice with calm waters, but it is about a three block walk to get there! The resort itself it also quite a distance from town, and taxi rides are around $20 to get there. We rented a car for part of our stay. Restaurant had good food, (GREAT french fries), but we went to the store and got groceries to cook in the villa for most meals.

“Blue bay villa's”

really nice hotel / villa. booked for a 2 week holiday and it was great. We had a villa on walking distance to the beach and golf course. The villa was nice with a large outside sitting area. The beach was also very nice, good facilities and free use of beds and towels. The drinks and food where very tastefull and the staff was very helpfull. Also the receptionist was very helpfull to assist us to book some tors to explore the island and giving directions to nice restaurants. One negative point: I'm a diver and wanted to book some guided dives with the diveschool which is located at the beach. This was not possible and they showed no interest at all to accomodate in this. very strange that the resort and also the dive school has ads that they do guided dives. I went elsewhere for my dives.

Outdoors or beach
