“good location to visit carlisle”
good hotel to use as a base to visit carlisle. on bus route, pool area very nice, good breakfast .
“No Frills B&B”
After reading the reviews of this hotel i wasnt expecting much..and was pleasantly surprised to find it wasnt as bad as some reported. The reception staff were polite, friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable - the decor could do with updating. The bathroom was dated and looked a bit grubby; the non slip bathmat looked disgusting! However it was fine for a short stay after a night out. In the morning we had the buffet breakfast - just what you need after a night on the tiles!
“Modest residence in need of renovation”
I picked this hotel as it offered a complmentary health club. Whilst the standard of the health club was acceptable, with reasonably new equipment on offer, the rest of the hotel is looking tired and need of a lot of money spending on it. A dividing door in the corridor displayed considerable damage at the bottom, where it was obviously kicked open. The general decor is out of date with modern styles. The TV was old and out of date and on ITV kept switching from stereo to mono - most irritating. There didn't appear to be many staff on duty either - the receptionist had to track down a barman several times!
“From reading other reviews what I expected.”
Ok reasonably priced. Nice leisure club. Breakfast Good.
“Old and tired!”
This hotel should be totally refitted or retired/closed. The rugs a worn and ripped on the stairs, the funiture is bruised and tortured, and the beds were very uncomfortable. It looks like little has been invested in this place since the 50's or 60's.
“Needs updating”
Basically it was okay for 1 night. However the room was too hot, heating was on, but they said it wasn't - a bad nights sleep because of this. Wall paper hanging off walls - would not recommend.
“Cheap, but not worth it!”
Our room had no kettle and the cups/spoons were dirty. We had to ask for a kettle twice before one was forthcoming. The bathroom was illegal as the expel-air did not work and was in fact stuck together with tape. The hotel needs to move out of the 70's where food is concerned. They do not cater for allergies (only citrus juice available at breakfast) and did not even provide decaffeinated coffee. Cereals were unboxed so you had no knowledge of allergy advice regarding these. Hot breakfast involved hanging around waiting for food to be brought out to the buffet - I guess insufficient staff to cook and waitress. I am also sure that, if I had tried, my fried egg would have bounced should I have dropped it on the floor. The hotel is extremely "stingy" with toiletries and tea/coffee in the room. Only enough drinks for 1 cup each and 1 person worth of toiletries for 1 day with a sign saying you could purchase more. (we were there, 2 people for 2 nights). They did not replenish toiletries for the second night. The jacuzzi had great swathes of hair in it on the first morning and the pool had several lumps of 'fluff' in it on the second morning - do not swim with your mouth open! All-in -all the worst 3 star hotel experience we have had. If they did not provide the spa facility I am sure their grade would only be 2 star.
