A lovely place to stay no doubt. We had a comfortable 3 nights stay. The staff were lovely. The location was amazing. The rooms were a bit small. We did have a cotbed but it could still be a bit bigger for the kind of hotel it is. The mattress were a bit on the harder side for our liking but it depends on what you are used to. The hotel was a bit too hot for the weather. We had to keep our window open slighly and turn off the room heating completely but it was still a bit hot as the lobby was very hot. But overall it was a memorable stay and i would go back again mainly just for the service and location.

Lovely peaceful hotel with all sports channels and bar stops serving at 11pm. Good for a good night's sleep after walking all day.

Beautiful location and friendly staff. Bar could have been warmer on a very cold day. Disappointing no eggs or mushrooms available for breakfast but overall good value for money except wine very expensive for the location.

We are lucky where the hotel is situated for the views and scenery. Sorry about the shortage of breakfast items, we have got a new chef and he is getting on top of the ordering.

Walking break
Hotel food was very nice. Bit of a wait but food was worth waiting for. Only problem was I paid on credit card when booking, then charged again when checking out. No answer when phoned hotel, hope to get my refund. Love the area and the hotel is perfect for the fells.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful throughout our visit, which was unexpectedly extended at short notice due to heavy snow and impassable roads. Very relaxed stay and a big thank you to all the staff who made us feel welcome and at home.

Really lovely hotel - staff couldn’t do enough for you. Food was slightly dry as bland however the dessert was amazing! but had a lovely stay!

Great for a weekend break
Good value for money - great breakfast. Great location. Car park potentially too small when fully booked. Thankfully the pub next door is presently closed. Staff really friendly. Really enjoyed our stay overall and hope to be back at some point.

Short walking getaway
A great base for walking the Langdale fells, the bar and lounge are cosy, and the restaurant very friendly. Food was good too. The room was very comfortable with lovely views in two aspects. Will definitely go again.

Amazing hotel lovely staff had a great night even the young man in charge made sure we were fed when it was late finn.one downside was breakfast I know they were busy but the young lady serving came across quite rude and ignorent rather than walk past customers just say we apologise for the delay and explain customers would understand.would not stop us staying there again amazing location amazing hotel just that one little downside 👍

This place is an absolute gem either for overseas visitors like us or walkers. The scenery is spectacular and we enjoyed the ample breakfasts and our dinners. Would thoroughly recommend this to anyone who likes a bit out of the way hotel stay.

Great location but menu uninspiring
Fabulous location at the foot of Stickell Ghyll in the Langdale Valley. Perfect for hikers. Food offering was rather unimaginative, however, with nothing for veggies or vegans. (Old Dungeon Ghyll 20 mins walk up the road offers a bit more variety). Dining room also rather gloomy - needs a makeover - while the walkers bar is a bit dominated by sport TV. Drying room for wet weather gear also not fit for purpose. But a great stay nevertheless.

The property is very good. However our experience wasn’t the best. We arrived at the hotel at 8:00 pm and as we were riding all day. We were tired and hungry. We went straight to the restaurant/pub and explain that we had just arrived, that we need to check in and also that we wanted some food. The lady said that because they were busy it wouldn’t be possible for the kitchen to take our order. Bearing in mind this was at exactly 8:03pm and on the paper which the same person gave to us said that on Saturdays the kitchen will be open until 8:15 and specifically stated last orders would be at 8:15. Very disappointed with the customer service. Apart from that, as stated above very nice property and the rooms were ok.

Enjoyed a 1 night last minute stay. Great value, clean and comfortable. Staff were excellent as was the breakfast. Will return. Great base for Scafell Pike amongst other great walks.

beautiful surrounding, property is dated but clean, room are small but very usable, good size bathroom with good standard of toiletries provided, Lovely and helpful staff, Breakfast was great and cooked to order. Overall I was bit apprehensive reading all the negative reviews but found the hotel to be a clea , welcoming and value for money and ideal pad for one night stay

Traditional hotel, well maintained and very clean. Excellent food and friendly service. Beautiful views. Very convenient location for both serious and leisurely walks. Packed lunches available.

I wasn’t expecting this quality and as a result very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the stay for the money. Well done Dungeon Ghyll - we’ll be back for sure!!
