“Excellent hotel in Excellent location”
Booked the Ibis hotel in Carlisle for one night as me and a friend were going to the horseracing. The hotel is a 3 minute walk from the railway station and situated on the main street. The hotel is surrounded by pubs and clubs so perfect position if that is your preference. I booked this room in advance and got a great rate for room only. I had the room to myself although it was for 1 or 2 persons and had a double bed. Large room and very clean. The shower/toilet room was an unusual shape. A time capsule would best the shape but inside was very spacious and modern. The shower quadrant was large and immaculately clean. Best shower Ive ever had in a hotel. It was a Friday night when I stayed at the Ibis and would definately book this hotel if i go back to Carlisle. Only sour note was I had a bad day at the races.
“Excellent overnight in Carlisle”
Excellent value for money - clean and basic but a super stop over hotel.
“Clean & Convenient”
Very handy for the train station, bars, restaurants, cafe's & shops. Clean, comfortable rooms which were well-serviced. A bit of street noise from party-goers if your room is at the front of the hotel.
“A warm welcome”
A very central modern hotel, near the station and with a car park. Close to the Carlisle night life and many eating places. A very warm welcome by the staff who were extremely helpful. Excellent bar service with resonable prices. Rooms were standard Ibis and I stayed two nights. I suppose my only complaint would be the floor of the room. The carpet was badly stained in many places and the perimeter angles and corners were well caked with dust and fluff way beyond the level of acceptability. I think a vacuum crevice tool is needed as well as a good carpet shampoo or even carpet renewal. I hope this room was an exception to the norm.
“Access to car park”
Hotel was generally clean and comfortable. Location directions should have included directions to car park entrance, which is quite complicated, the SatNav link on the Ibis website should have taken you to the car park entrance, not the front entrance which is a no parking/no waiting/no loading zone. Breakfast was uninspired, poorly cooked and presented, and seriously overpriced for the standard offered; if we stay there again, which is likely, we would eat breakfast at another location.
“Great value for money, better than anticipated!”
The hotel is in the perfect location if you want to explore Carlise, it's just a short walk from the catsle and the cathedral, as well as numerous pubs and restaurants. The room was very clean and the staff polite. I wouldn't expect great views from your window though, as the hotel is situated on a fairly busy street going into town. I was there on a Tuesday night and it was very quiet, but wouldnt be surprised if it was louder on weekends due to the close proximity of pubs and clubs. If there was anything to complain about, it would be the room service trying to get into the room two or three times in the morning well before the check-out time. Overall however, it was a very pleasant stay in a clean and comfortable hotel (with lovely breakfast!), and if you want to stay somehere nice thats fairly cheap, I would deffinitely reccomend this hotel!
“EXL Base”
good basic hotel well situated for shopping, pubs and clubs.
“NOISY - DON'T GO FRIDAY/ SATURDAY!”
The Carlisle Ibis is standard fare from this cheap-but-cheerful chain, and in all respects just what you would expect, EXCEPT ... ..it is situated on Carlisle's main nightstrip, Botchergate, which meant thumping techno and dance music until past 2am, followec by various drunken revellers returning to their rooms, or deciding to take one for the night. We even had to contend with one person (or it may have been more - they kept coming back for another go!) trying to get into our room, even shoulder-charging the door, while we were in bed. This was at roughly 3-4am. So - obviously considered a good place to crash by the locals. However, unless you are happy not to sleep much and actually like getting up in the night to tell would-be intruders to sling their hook, avoid this place like the plague at weekends.
“Not Impressed”
Think you need to employ a cleaner. Stayed in a few Ibis Hotels. This was the worst.
“A good brand”
I regularly book Ibis Hotels and they are always comfortable and very good value. The parking space and location were a minor problem here in Carlisle, but enerything else was good. The only downside, a small one, is that in many Ibis Hotels the corridors are airless and fusty. Given that Ibis has such well-standardised and thorough quality management this is something which could be improved in all Ibis Hotels by some daily period of ventilation. But they are really good value and always clean and comfortable and I will continue to recommend and use them with pleasure.
