“Good value for money.”
Although this hotel in general needs modernised it is well run with friendly staff. There is free car parking at the rear with cctv coverage. We booked a double room and got a triple which was fine, however the TV was very small for the room size, but then again we weren't in sitting in our room all night! The room was comfortable and clean with lovely soft towels and the shower was adequate. The buffet breakfast with waitress service was fine. The location is excellent - right in the town centre where all the night life is with a good choice of pubs and clubs. All in all, for the price we paid for our 2 night stay this hotel was good value for the money.
“Terrible”
We had to laugh at this Hotel. We were told to take the lift to the first floor. Well I had a case so I thought it might help. We then proceeded to walk for about 5mins going up a flight of steps, then down one, then up another until we finally arrived at our room. The state of the carpets in the corridors was awful. There was even a patch of fresh sick to great us on the way to breakfast-still there at 10.30 am when we left. The decor of the room was very poor-holes in the wall-bolts? in the wall. The bathroom smelled of urine. The wardrobe didn't even have a door. The hotel has pubs/clubs underneath it so the noise is dreadful. The staff at breakfast were very rude. They didn't tell us where we could sit or offer tea/coffee etc we had to ask. The door to the room was left open to provide a draft-unfortunately the smell of the toilets wafted in to accompany the breakfast. The breakfast was nice but cold. The rest of the hotel was in a poor state but it had a lovely ceiling in the bar. This is a very poor hotel-avoid.

Brilliant stay at the County Hotel again. Spacious rooms. Lovely breakfast. less than 5 minutes walk to main shops. Fabulous pubs across the road from hotel....the best Guinness in the country!
“County Hotel”
This hotel is an older hotel with a great variance in rooms. The room I got was very small, with water stains on the wall and ceiling. The wall paper was starting to unstick and the furniture was a bit shabby. The staff was friendly and helpful but it did not overcome the shabby small room. I would not recommend this hotel.
“Not impressed in the slightest”
We would never go back to the County Hotel, the place was very shabby. The carpets all over are thread bare, the mattress on our double bed was VERY uncomfortable, you could feel the springs !! Lights in room didn't work properley, shower very difficult to work. general appearance of room was poor.(cobwebs everywhere) Complained to person on desk, as you would expect, nothing was done. This spoit our two day stay over in Carlisle for our wedding Anniverary!!
