We have stayed in many hotels around the world, but this was without a doubt one of the most delightful. The hand painted designs all over the hotel were beautiful and fun to find in the little hidden nooks and sitting areas. We felt that we were living back in another time when Cuenca was a Spanish Colonial city! The staff, especially Ivan and William did everything they could to make our stay perfect. Be sure to go up to the rooftop terrace at night to see the Cathedral lights from across the street. Don't miss this gem if you are visiting Cuenca!
I spent two great nights at the hotel. The room was charming, comfortable and clean, and the staff was pleasant. The location of the hotel is great! It is only a block or two from some of my favorite restaurants and coffee shops, as well as the river separating the old town from the new. It is also only a few blocks from the main square and the cathedral.
Felt in the lap of luxury as soon as we arrived. Staff treats you like royalty and the building is a remodeled 19th century mansion where you feel like you are the owner. The restaurant has a double menu, local and Italian cuisine, both very well prepared. We were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary on our trip to Cuenca and not only fell in love with the city and the hotel but also with each other again. Every evening the maid would bring courtesy chocolate sweets to our room. Room service is great. Highly recommend this hotel.

We spent 3 nights in October. Our room was nice, clean and large enough with two beds. Our room and all the areas are very well decorated. It’s located in a nice, quiet and safe area, not far from a river and a linear park where you can take a good rest.
The staff and the manager Estefania were very friendly. Estefania spent plenty of times to explain the main attractions of Cuenca. She speaks 3 languages and she really enjoyed to speak French with us. The breakfasts were wonderful. It was like being part of a family. We really felt being at home. They even ordered meals for us from outside, when we didn’t feel to go out and search for a restaurant. They prepared a nice table especially for us.
This is certainly the best Bed & Breakfast in Cuenca. Enjoy a few nights there and you won’t be disappointed.
A very charming and quaint hotel right in the middle of the heart of Cuenca, Hotel Casa San Rafael was probably our favorite hotel during our 2 week stay in Ecuador. We checked in right after our 6:15AM flight from Quito landed in Cuenca at 7:30AM. The room was ready for us when we arrived. Mr. Bolivar was manning the front at the time and gave me helpful directions to the laundry so I could wash our clothes from earlier in our trip. The room was very old-school and charming and felt like it was from the home of an old farmhouse. The decor of the hotel was similarly old-school and charming. The bed was nice and firm and the bathroom facilities were comfortable. The front door was always securely locked and required us to buzz the desk to be let in. The hotel is family owned and the other members of the front desk were family and they were all so helpful in getting us taxis, making our breakfasts, giving us wake up calls and Mr. Bolivar even made us a little breakfast on the day we did our Nariz del Diablo and Ingapirca daytour even though we were being picked up before breakfast typically got served (at 7AM). We would definitely come back.
