old hotel

Posted 22-Mar-2015
Being an old hotel, the floor boards creaked. Bed was reasonable. However, plenty of nice hot water so enjoyed the bath. Over all nice surroundings. £5 was added to my bill but then I was told that it was not required. I hope they don't charge me extra.

Quiet, Warm and Cosy Hotel.

Posted 26-Feb-2015
Pros: Quiet Location. Great room Facilities. Warm and Cosy and very Clean room. Plenty of parking.
Cons: Freshen up the musty pillows & wash throw cushion covers Reduce the sandwich prices Allocate a smoking area away from the front of Hotel
Location: Nothing close by. You will have to drive if you want to buy food because the hotel sandwiches are a rip off.
Nice hotel in a quiet location. Had a good side room and all facilities needed for short and long term stay. Only problems I had were with the Windows. I had to stand up on the window in order to open it as it was so tough. The extortionate prices of the sandwiches. £6.95 for a simple tuna sandwich and £5.95 for a simple ham or cheese sandwich. Just can't justify those prices. They're ridiculous. Musty smelling pillows. Even though the pillow cases had been changed you could smell the mushiness from the pillows themselves through the cotton. Yuk!! Also the pillows thrown on the bed as décor were also musty smelling and dirty. Now they could have done with a clean. Mattresses were too soft and at times I felt I was on a boat and they weren't firm at all. One other thing. Upon arrival... I was welcomed at the entrance with a face full of cigarette smoke as there were 3 people smoking on entrance porch. I was greeted this way every time I left or entered the hotel. People loitering and fagging it left my first and lasting impression of the hotel. Shame!!

Stayed for one night while in the area on business. A nice quiet hotel - this was midweek, with a comfortable room, and at a reasonable price. Would certainly come back, if in the area, and have already recommended it to others. A good evening bar-meal was served up to 9.30pm, which was appreciated.

One night room only to attend a party nearby

Posted 23-Feb-2015
Pros: Golf coarse looked good
Cons: Docoration throughout and new carpets
Location: In the London green belt so good for dog walking
Hotel was in need of a refresh. Did not feel like a 4 star.

Local to our family

Posted 28-Dec-2014
Pros: Close to family
Cons: Heating in all rooms to work
Location: Close to Coulsdon town centre
Checked in and given directions to room. Found heating wasn't working so we were invited to change rooms which we did. Everything was good after that

Don't expect too much, and don't stay in room 312!

Posted 05-Dec-2014 on Hotels.com
The hotel looks good from the front but is quite tired inside. It looks like it's in need of a good overhaul. Even the beer was very weak. I unfortunately stayed in room 312 which apparently is directly overhead the kitchen extractor fan. This fan made the room vibrate until past midnight, it then kicked in at 5.45am giving me an earlier than expected alarm call. I contacted reception at 5.45am but they couldn't do anything about it, I also heard the guest staying in room 314 getting up and leaving his room to complain. I attempted to address the issue with the duty manager at 8.30am, he was unable to help although it was blatantly apparent that all members of staff knew that there was a real problem with room 312. I wouldn't have minded too much if I'd been advised on check in, as it stands though, over two days after being promised a call back I have still not heard anything from the hotel. I am not unreasonable but as anyone else who has stayed in room 312 will testify to, the vibrations are very loud, and to be charged £75 to stay in there is slightly ridiculous.

One overnight for business. Not again.

Posted 04-Dec-2014 on Hotels.com
Stayed for business, just the one night. When arriving the hotel looked fine but once indoors it turn a slight downturn. The place looks like it hasn't been maintained at all - damage everywhere, wear and tear which hasn't been touched up in a very long time and a general feeling of neglect throughout. The room itself was of decent size but quite dated. The TV couldn't get a signal on most channels and if it did, there was no sound. Plus the wifi is steep at £5.00 per hour - in short there is nothing to do. Bedclothes smelt from what I can only think of as slightly greasy as did the towels. The bed itself was very uncomfortable - very poor mattress - as I had been up since 4am that day for work I was even more tired the next day. Not what you want from a hotel stay. I had dinner and the food was 'alright' - watery soup and a low level salad. I paid £9-11.00 somewhere between for the salad which was definitely not worth the finances. For breakfast I don't eat large meals so I just had cereal, which was...cereal. The staff there are friendly enough - they can only work with that they are given. The hotel is a big building in need of drastic improvement. I suspect they don't have the visitors to finance upkeep of the hotel and the golfing grounds beyond what its current level, I must have seen 3/4 other people whilst there. Can't say I'd come back here if I found somewhere a further out from my destination.

Had my 40th party here as it is where I got married 12 years ago had heard it needs a luck of paint and is dated but I found it just as beautiful as it was 12 years ago! Staff were all brilliant, friendly, polite, happy and helpful. Food and venue get top marks too!
