VERY OLDY WORLDY HOTEL. VERY NICE.

Posted 10-Jun-2014
Pros: BEAUTIFUL SURROUNDINGS, AS IT IS IN THE GROUNDS OF A GOLF COURSE. THE BUILDING ITSELF IS VERY OLD, WITH LOTS OF HISTORY SURROUNDING IT, VERY NICE.
Cons: MAYBE PAINTING UP A LITTL;E, AS SOME AREAS LOOKED A LITTLE DOWDY. ESPECIALL;Y THE LIFT, AND STAIR WAYS. BUT WITH A BUILDING THAT SIZE, WOULD COST .
Location: LOCATED ON A GOLF COURSE. VERY NICE AREA, LOTS OF HILLS AND DALES. LOVELY SCENERY. BUT I AM AFRAID WE WERE THERE FOR SUCH A SHORT TIME.
WE WERE GOING TO A WEDDING RECEPTION IN A DIFFERENT LOCATION NOT FAR AWAY. THIS WAS THE NEAREST HOTEL WE COULD FIND, TO STAY OVERNIGHT. IT WAS VERY NICE. BUT ONLY ONE COMPLAINT, THE ROOM WAS VERY VERY HOT, ALTHOUGH WE WERE ON THE 3RD FLOOR. I DID MANAGE TO GET A FAN FOR OUR ROOM., KINDLY GIVEN TO ME BY MEMBER OF STAFF. I THINK THOUGH THEY ARE GOLD DUST SO I HEAR. ALSO NO T.V. RECEPTION AT ALL. THAT WAS A LITTLE DISAPOINTING, BUT NO BIG DEAL. WE WOKE IN EARLY HOURS OF MORNING, AND THE ROOM WAS VERY WARM STILL. BUT OTHER THAN THAT, ROOM WAS VERY NICE, CLEAN. AND COMFORTABLE. THANK YOU.

Disappointing and tired

Posted 02-Jun-2014
Pros: Golf course looked good and our snack in the bar was tasty
Cons: Complete upgrade
Overnight stay on May. Bank holiday 2014 as we were going to a friends 50th Birthday party The hotel generally looks very tired and in need of an upgrade.....on this night our television in the room didn't work at all and when we informed the reception they all but shrugged and said they are getting it fixed...it was a only when we stood our ground and commented that wasn't good enough they offered a 10% discount. On returning from our evening at just after midnight, we tried to get in but the door was locked and our room key didn't open the front door like most hotels. After knocking and ringing at the door for 15 minutes, my partner had to phone them.....then eventually the night porter arrived to let us in The rooms are badly designed.....not enough plugs for modern day devices and the shower was old weak and poor Overall, for what we paid......very disappointing

Generally fine with pleasant staff.

Posted 02-May-2014
Pros: Country setting,service and reception
Cons: Tired rooms
Location: Was only here for one evening so no observations.
I stayed here for one night and overall the hotel is fine if a little tired in places. Check in was easy and whilst I didn't eat in the hotel for dinner breakfast was excellent. Bedroom was okay but the carpets and beds could do with an overhaul though still fine generally. Toiletries were excellent from Pacific Direct though a 40g bar of soap is a bit of a waste. Receptionist on checkout was delightful to say the least though her attire which was great to admire wasn't ideal to be sat behind a reception desk in - but I wasn't complaining! Overall fit for purpose and good value and a great setting indeed.

Comfortable, could do with a facelift

Decent hotel, just missing a few bits and pieces to be classed as a 4 star. Could do with a refurb.

Old style hotel with Golf course.

Posted 01-Oct-2013
Pros: Good free parking.
Cons: There was a shortage of staff at times as we tried to get a drink from the bar and gave up as there was nobody about to serve.
We stayed 2 nights bed and breakfast and just used it as a base when visiting friends, we have stayed here before and found it to be O.K.. It is set in its own grounds with a golf course which is nice. Breakfast was good with a choice of cooked or cold buffet.

Hotel becoming shabby - carpets and upholstered furniture in public areas very grubby. No help with luggage (one disabled guest). Good breakfast; lunch, dinner poor quality food - could not recommend. Our twin bedded room had one small square pillow per bed, plus a cushion and another little one with a knobbly cover. Style over comfort! Bedroom and bathroom very clean. Staff helpful and kind. Lovely surroundings, very quiet despite two weekend weddings. Nowhere to sit except bar, usually full of noisy golfers.
