How often do you get to stay in a monk's room?
This 12th century monastery is one of the most beautiful and unique places we have ever stayed and it was truly a highlight of our recent trip to northern Portugal. The hotel is steeped in history and we enjoyed just wondering through the various rooms, the peaceful cloister, the immaculate grounds, and the church. Our room was comfortable and quiet. The location is a short, inexpensive taxi ride from the town's center or you can walk. The only thing that could use some slight improvement is the breakfast.

A unique and memorable experience to stay in such a beautiful and historic building. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was fantastic. I don’t know about the dinner. We had an amazing dinner in Guimaraes - a 20 min walk downhill and a 3.50 euro Uber back. Our room was large, clean and with excellent WiFi. I like how well they combined old history with modern amenities. Recommend the hotel for anyone who wants to experience something a bit different.

Too far from the beautiful sites of historic Guimaraes, not convenient at all. Very difficult to access the hotel due to narrow twisty dangerous roads, which are even worse at night. (Guess it would be fine if you plan to only stay at the hotel and not go into Guimaraes historic center)- It would be great if the hotel had a shuttle to and from the historic city center. There are lots of stairs, difficult for those with a mobility challenge. Snack bar at pool was not open when it was scheduled to be open. Surrounding grounds were beautiful. Parking was plentiful and easy.

If not sure about making the trek to this location - do it! We absolutely loved our staff. The check in was a bit rocky, but once we got set up, the staff walked us through the hotel to our room and shared some of the history of the building and monastery. The dinner and breakfast were both wonderful experiences and the service impeccable. This hotel was a highlight of our entire trip to Portugal.

The photos don’t do it justice. The hotel is incredible. It’s an old monastery on top of a hill overlooking the old city. From the pool you can see the castle in the city centre. The grounds are well maintained- super clean and lush. The staff are friendly and polite. The linens were good quality, the rooms have black out shutters, the bathroom was all stone with a lovely rainfall shower. I felt like a princess when I stayed here :)

Nice stay and nicely renovated place
Hotel was a nice place and breakfast was good. Dinner and the prices for the food came as a surprise! We stayed on the second level which was OK but the best would have been to stay in the upper levels and be able to experience the high renovated ceilings etc… of the old building which has been very nicely done.

Great historical property. Classic Pousada. Very helpful and friendly staff. The only negative is that is is somewhat far from city center. Rooms are on the smaller side but very clean.

The pousada environment is very beautiful and room is very clean! Staff are very friendly and helpful, breakfast is delicious! We stayed in the family room and it was located in the downstair, although the room was big, we wished we had chosen a twin room at higher floor.

Stunning Pousada (hotel) with lots of history. The place is massive with lovely rooms and stunning restaurant. Can walk to town but we drove down and parked by the castle.

Fabulous
Fabulous, a little out of town but as impressive as the Palace and taxis are cheap. Pay extra to get a historic room if you can’t make sure you have an explore upstairs . Dinner was great. Great views over the town. Staff are friendly and welcoming.

This hotel is very unique. We had a great time here wondering around the grounds. The pool was nice. I wish it was heated. It's located near downtown. But you should still probably drive there. The room furniture was a little dated. But I think that was for the overall ambiance.

Very interesting spot and felt like a nobleman from the Middle Ages. Huge halls and reception and areas like the castles and palaces we have visited. Rooms were small and I could hear my neighbour easily. Location was not great. High on a hill away from the old town. Not far to drive but walking up hill from town was tiring and only for the fit. Staff was outstanding and breakfast very nice. I prefer to stay closer to the sights and old areas nearer restaurants etc
