"Great location and the hotel staff was outstanding"
We stayed at this hotel for 14 days straight and every day was pleasant. The hotel staff always offered us complimentary bottles of water and they would also ask us how our stay was going and if there was anything else that they could do for us. We received great tips from all of the concierges on the best way to get around town and where to go. The US Grant is where we will stay when we come back to San Diego.
San Diego is one of my favorite cities and I'm always happy when I get a chance to go. Usually stay at a Marriott or Starwood Hotel (W, US Grant) but this time they were way too expensive. So when I got a great price on The Keating Hotel and saw the positive reviews I figured I'd try it. I was very pleased with the room. Different from the hotel chains and had kind of an industrial studio look and feel. It was very large and comfortable with great amenities. You don't see Bang & Olafsen components in many hotel rooms. The bed was really nice and I slept well there. My only complaint with the room is the shower is one of those types with an open half wall of glass - I just prefer one with a door you can close so cool air stays out. Otherwise it was fine. Also the shower and sinks are open to the entire room which is unusual. There is a curtain you can pull in front to separate that area from the rest of the room if you want.
There staff was great - really friendly and professional. Appreciated that they called a cab for me when I checked out! I would be quite happy to stay at The Keating again and hope I will!
The Gas Lamp Plaza more than met our needs. The room was plenty big and very clean. The staff answered any questions we had about the area or places we were looking for. Stepping out of the hotel and traveling a half block to 5th street we had access to a wide variety of restaurants, shops, and bars. It was an easy walk to the convention center or to the waterfront.
The room is tight even for 1 person, but close to restaurants and public transportation. There's even a restaurant next door which I heard good things about but didn't get to try. Valet parking price is a bit steep.
I loved this old hotel. Staff is very friendly and the room that I had was awesome. I had a suite that was very comfortable. I was told the noise level might be high due to being located in the Gaslamp District. However I was on the 5th floor and I didn't hear a thing. I would stay again.
"Outstanding value for a piece of San Diego history"
The 3/5 rating here is not fair to this hotel. If nothing else, the valult in the basement and striking lobby decor are are worthy of more.
The rooms a good, nothing special in them selves, however the hotel is a San Diego landmark.
Location is on the edge of the gas lamp. If you are looking for a lively evening your sure to find it here.
