Helpful, friendly staff. Good breakfast and evening meal . Was a bit noisy being in a room above the pub, but this didn't stop us sleeping.

Well located B&B in central Penryn.

Lovely short stay. Only thing which would have enhanced it even more would be to have a small armchair in the room.

Thoroughly Recommend

Posted 25-Mar-2015 on Hotels
The staff are friendly and helpful, excellent. The rooms comfortable and clean. The food is home cooked and really very good both breakfast and evening meal. The parking is a little difficult, but manageable. This is the only slightly negative I can think of and that's picky. I would heartily recommend the Thirsty Scholar and would return if I was in the area when not on business.

Thirsty Scholar (good ales,good times)

Posted 27-Feb-2015 on Hotels
Great little pub the locals are very friendly and a great selection of real ales on offer. The parking is a bit of a nightmare here as it is on a little Cornish street so you take whatever you find. There is a car park around the back through some narrow streets but managed to find some a short walk from the pub. The beds are unbelievably comfy and the staff were as helpful and pleasant as they could possibly be. Only 2 rooms available so you are constantly being looked after. Rooms are well presented and hold the character of the establishment so if you are looking for sleek travelodge accommodation you better check there. The only minor thing other than the parking was the small noise from the pub below but if you are tired enough its not a problem to sleep through and it was all good spirited fun from downstairs nothing raucous. Breakfast was quick and delicious and checkout super fast. Would stay again if in the area

Noisy Pub unsuited for accommodation

Posted 06-Feb-2015
Pros: Location - we needed to be in the area
Cons: Service - attention to detail. Make sure tea & coffee provisions are properly supplied.
Location: Not a tourist area
Rooms located over a noisy Pub makes sleep impossible. This is not a place to stay unless you have reason to be located in Penryn. Room was clean but rickety and service sloppy and inattentive. There was no creamer for coffee or tea in the room & the angular TV in adjacent cupboard made difficult viewing and is drowned out by noisy pub dwellers below regardless of volume setting. The room was poorly cleaned after first night & the bathroom left wet & disorderly. A pleasant friendly Danish proprietor but you get the feeling that as a resident you're really in the way of their main business which is running a local Pub.

pleasant pub in penryn

Nice neat pub with rooms. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Room was pleasant but windows covered in mould and large crack in wall. Clean and comfy bed. Noisy until pub shut which was about 12.30 on both nights. Lovely breakfast. No car park was a bit of a pain if you had left anything in car. Recommend for couples . Good location.

Fantastic B&B, Excellent Staffs

Everything is perfect. Staffs here are sincere, kind & considerate. They called taxi for me, texting me when it will be closed when I was staying out. Very enthusiastic to give me advice on my further trips. Best experience in B&B.

Not a quiet stay!

Posted 28-Jul-2014 on Hotels
This is a typical charming Cornish Inn in a typical small town. The staff were very friendly and our room was fine. Unfortunately, as it was so hot, we had to have the window wide open and, being on the main street through Penryn and this being a University town, it was very noisy. So, after the noise from the bar finished, we were still kept awake. Between the squawking from young women until around 2.30 am and from the seagulls from about 3.30 am, we didn't get much sleep. We were also terribly disappointed by the menu which was just typical pub grub. No specials during the week and only one fishy main - a crab pasty! The local ale was very good though and the locals entertaining to listen to.
