A pleasant stay
A large ensuite twin room with comfortable beds. A friendly welcome and we were escorted to the room - later we had a pleasant dinner in the bar. The room was clean and there were plenty of towels. Parking was conveniently close.

An overnight with very early departure for an early flight. Kitchen staff stayed on to prepare an evening meal although we were after their normal hours. Friendly bar staff, good beer and excellent pizza. Accommodation basic but all that we needed for our very brief stay.

Star inn, St Erth.
Loved the quaint inn, with very friendly staff, although short of staff at the moment they did their best to accommodate us in every way. Home baked bread ,buns and pizzas, selection of mains to pick from. Our room was very comfortable (The Look out) although it had about 8 steep steps up to the door i manage it with care as i walk with the aid of a stick.

The Star Inn is an interesting old pub in a lovely little village. The current manager/owner has clearly done a lot of work to keep it alive and there were plenty of locals there. COVID-19 restrictions were in place but it seemed to work pretty well and wasn't too much of a distraction. The pub was serving pizza for evening meals (in pizza boxes) as many are during COVID-19 times. The pizzas were massive and very nice but we would have enjoyed a more varied menu. If you don't want to drive there are no other options in the village. Our room was a ground floor annex (possibly originally some sort of out house) which had been redecorated in an effort to smarten it up. This worked to a degree but it was let down but a slightly musty/damp smell, cold tiled floor and cheap uncomfortable beds. We paid £75 for one night room only in a twin room. COVID-19 changes meant we had to strip the beds before leaving. Although St Erth is a good position for exploring Cornwall, we felt the price was high for what it got you.

Large room, large bathroom, shower still small (and wimpy) No heat in bathroom, and the tile floor is very cold in the morning. Bed was very comfortable, and the room very quiet at night. There is a small foyer with a door to the bedroom, however the foyer has a window, with only a lace curtain, and the door a translucent glass window, with no window covering, so there's nothing to block the sunlight in the morning. The inn has a chip shop, selling burgers, sausage, chips, etc. but only operates a few days a week. You can connect to theCloud wifi, but it doesn't reach the rooms.

We stayed here for one night for a wedding as there was nowhere in at Ives below £150. The room was convenient, clean and had all the basics. We were barely through the door before payment was demanded, however after this the staff were friendly and helpful. The taxi service into at Ives was expensive with the return trip costing over £35.

Needs help!!
If it's a luxury stay you're after then this is not the place for you. The room was basic but did have a comfortable bed. There was a damp musty smell on entering & the en-suite shower room seriously needed updating!! Breakfast was only a pleasant experience as we got talking to a lovely Australian couple which helped to pass the long wait. There was only the chef laying tables. Waiting on & cooking!! He was very polite & did a good job considering he was on his own. However this did result in cold toast & bacon & hard eggs. We would definitely not return!!!!!

You could smell the mould in the room + No Wifi
DO NOT STAY HERE I stayed in the Gardenier/Gardinia room and nearly considered sleeping in my car. The smell in the room was absolutely horrible - I think the carpet must have been mouldy. The bathroom had black mould all over the tiles both in and out of the shower but actually smelt better than the bedroom. The bin had not been emptied since the previous guest and the towels were in a pile on the floor. The room is advertised as 'garden view' and yes you do enter via the beer garden but the bedroom itself has only a small window which overlooks the car park. You enter to a small hall which the bedroom and bathroom come off separately and which has a green light you can not turn off - there is a small window by the door complete with mouldy blind that does give you your "garden view". No wifi is available in the room - even though it was advertised as having it. The only saving grace was the breakfast which was plentiful and well cooked.

Lovely place to stay.
Arriving at Noon for an afternoon appointment, we knew that our room would be unavailable until 2pm. We needed a quick change and a room was made available for us to do so. We had need of a local taxi and the manager - Thomas was excellent in calling a local service and we were on our way. The full English breakfast on Sunday morning was gigantic and we were unable to clear our plates.

Wonderful little B&B at a Pub
This is an old English pub. Stayed here as I couldn't find a room in St Ives. The pub has two guest rooms. Room was more than adequate. The pub seems to be the center of village life and the locals were wonderful. Food was good. Service was great.

What a fabulous inn! It's in the middle of nowhere, but we stayed in the haybarn above the bar and it was just lovely. We would happily go back. Haybarn not suitable for disabled though as it is up some steep stone steps; however worth it once you are up.

Quirky hidden gem
We last stayed here about 20 years ago - to some extent time has stood still! The pub has two letting rooms both have their own charm. We stayed in the hayloft very very comfortable bed. The real hero is Steve the chef - limited menu (not I suspect his choice) understands what a medium rare steak should be! Amazing fish batter and everything seasoned beautifully. St Erth is a very welcoming village could quite happily have spent my entire visit there without seeing any more of Cornwall.

Lovely place, no food Mon & Tues!
Positive things first, the room is in an annex to the main building and was clean, cosy and quite big if you include a little foyer and separate shower room. Breakfast was good, the publican very friendly. We arrivde on a Tuesday late afternoon and as this place was a pub assumed there wouldn't be a problem having something to eat and a drink. Once nearly ready for food I went into the bar to see what they had, they had a blackboard full of tasty options but apparently they don't do food on a Monday or Tuesday, and it's in a wee village with no other options, in the end we walked for ages to the only place around for some mediocre food and got taxi back. We were informed later that they were looking to get in another chef to provide food on these days when it's more in season. (Also on these days the bar shuts early, like 9pm) Also a new heat exchanger woke me in the middle of the night and kept me awake for a bit which wasn't ideal, again the vibe I got was that this would be rectified pretty soon, the guy was so nice I feel bad leaving this 3 star review but it was our experience, hopefully things will improve and it's just teething issues with new ownership. As I said the room, welcome and breakfast were all really good and with a car it's easy to get to lands end and other attractions in the area.

Cold welcome, cold room.
Arrived within check-in time window - all was locked. The live-in chef showed me to my room. There was no heating on, on a day when there had been sleet and snow. The owner arrived then and turned on the night-storage heater, so this took ages to heat up. The en-suite was a wet-room with no heating in it. This was separated from the bedroom by a foyer with a stone floor so no heat could transfer into the bathroom. The accommodation was cold and the bedding thin. The room I was in was called the Gardenia Suite and was a single story with a flat roof. I don't know if the other rooms in the inn were as cold but I would not stay in that room again. There was an unpleasant smell in the room, like a mixture of floral disinfectant and damp. Even for just £45 a night I don't expect to freeze!

Wayne's Star Inn
We stayed for one night in the kingsize room which was very clean, comfortable and nicely furnished. The bathroom was adequate but desperately in need of complete refurbishment which I hope the brewery will consider undertaking soon. Wayne the very sociable and helpful Landlord had only taken over the place a week before we arrived and he and his staff (and the locals) couldn't do enough to make us welcome. The small menu was ok, what we had for our evening meal was good, although some of the very nice breakfast could have been a bit hotter. Would certainly consider staying there again if in the area.

perfect hosts
We stayed at the Star Inn over a bank holiday weekend and were so pleasantly surprised by the accommodations. Lisa and Mike were extremely welcoming, friendly and attentive. The room was quite large versus a standard hotel, full English breakfast (served with plenty of coffee) was delicious, and the pub was lively and friendly. We didn't have the chance to eat lunch or dinner in the pub, but imagine they would be equally as impressive as breakfast. The location isn't prime if you are looking to be beachside, but there is a train 20 min walk from the pub, and St Ives is about a 30-40 minute bike ride away. Overall a perfect stay - would definitely recommend and will probably be back.

The hotel was run by a lovely couple, helped by their charming daughter and son who is a talented chef. All the staff were friendly and helpful. On one occasion the landlady drove us into Penzance, and gave us information about local trips and interesting places to visit. We had a very enjoyable four days. We would strongly recommend this venue.

The B&B is in a great location, the only downside is you have to ask them to clean your room. For £80pn I would expect this to be done as standard & I should not have to ask for toilet roll. Food is very good & room is large.

Lets put this down to a very bad experince
Despite it saying we could check in from 2 p.m we had to wait in the car park till 4.30 for the Star Inn to open. The room was however very clean and to a good standard BUT it was like an ice box on entering the room we don't think the heating had been on in the room for weeks it had a totally damp atmosphere. We were told from the doorway when we were shown the room that the en suite was on the left and the rest we could find for ourselves. The shower room had no heating at all !!!! the water was tepid from the over sink heater and we did not attempt to use the shower the following morning because the shower room was like an ice box. When we complained about the lack of heating in the bathroom we were told well that's it !!! We turned on the electric bedroom heating as we were instructed to do so which took almost 4 hours to warm the room to an acceptable temperature. The bed was damp and we had to air it with a hair dryer to make it acceptable to sleep in. One of the reasons we booked this Hotel was that there was parking, ensuite facilities, wi-fi and its location. The Wi-Fi was cloud and did not work anywhere we tried to access it. If we could have we would have left and found another Hotel but we would have been charged anyway. All in all a very very very disappointing stay for what could have been with some consideration a good one.

Very pleasant stay
Quick trip to Cornwall to see my boyfriends parents, lovely quaint area to stay in brought our dog along and the room had plenty of room for all of us and a shower room combined toilet. The main bedroom warmed up nicely we did put the heating right up though, as rooms were apart from the main building(and it was January). They were very attentive and we had a filling breakfast included in the cost of the stay. We didn't eat any food other then the breakfast but they do serve food in the evening. Great base to stay in if your driving as there are a lot of places nearby and plenty of scenic dog walks.

Star Inn. St.Erth.
We were very pleased. We had the hayloft suite which looked newly decorated to a high standard. Car parking, plenty of space. Breakfast was included which was excellent. Sunday roast was good and the Menu available at all times was very good. The landlord and landlady michael and lisa were very welcoming. We really enjoyed our stay and would like to return if inCornwall. It was a nice location 5mins in a car to St.Erth mainline station. Trains run into St.Ives which is good as you cannot park easily there and the station has a good car park. it was well placed for exploring that beautiful partof the country.

Nice, peaceful location
Situated in a quiet village about 5 min driver from Hayles golden beach. The room we stayed in is separate from the pub with it's own front door. The room itself was lovely, possibly recently refurbished. We had dinner in the pub, we ordered a normal portion and a small portion of scampi and chips from the bar menu. If I'd realised how big the small portion was going to be, I would have ordered that instead of the normal portion! (Not a complaint by any means!!). The breakfast was nice. The table was already laid for us when we got there with a choice of cereal. We were then brought coffee/tea and asked if we wanted full english. We took this offer up and the breakfast was lovely. Would stay again.

Ok, but too dear
Ok. This is a pub with rooms in a small village. Not being a fan of dogs it was a bit uunnerving to find four of them right inside the entrance. More of an issue was the fact that this was an area where customers could sit and eat a meal. Nonetheless, a pleasant welcome from the girl behind the bar, who quickly showed me to my room. This was out back to what I first thought must have been a converted toilet area. I was shown in to a lobby type area which then led to a very dark room. Only one window which opened onto the pub car park. This meant I had to close it all night because of noise, fumes and potential security issues. Thankfully it was not as warmas some eevenings have been recently. Also off the lobby was a walk in shower area. You walk through the shower to get to the wc. Could be an issue of two people were using the facility, and was a problem in the morning, with everything getting soaked! Bed was very comfortable. Good sized tv and adequate clothes hanging space. No WiFi in the room, but ok in the bar area. Food was average. Strangest chicken caesar salad I have ever had. More bacon than chicken, which made it all a bit salty. Decent steak to follow, although the side sauce was a bit concealed and was an exorbitant £2.50 for a tiny portion. That's my main issue here. It's expensive for what it is. £80 for bed and breakfast in a locals pub in an average location is just far too dear. And the price of the food, again for essentially a bar meal, is too dear
