“Have no hestitation in returning, next time in spring/summer”

Friendly and very hospitable hotel full of character, staff and manageress very friendly promoting an ambuance of customer satisfaction at all levels. Although with so many steps, it is not ideal for the infirm, the cornish coastline is a plentiful attraction the hotel uses for all it's wealth. The local community use it's dining and bar facilities which also promotes it's ability to fit into the community.

Area recommendations
Friendly coastal town, with a culture of a vibrant community for the coast/sea lovers pleasures.
When to go
on a clear sunny day.
Dining
Hotel restaurant and bar well used by locals, and various celebrations.
Outdoors or beach
private steps onto small very clean beach, at low tide can also be used to walk to neighbouring village.

Excellent hotel. Staff lovely. So close to the beach. But was stuck in the corner of the restaurant on our own. I wouldn't go back to the restaurant, but will definitely return to the hotel

“What a disappointment!”

We were so looking forward to our trip to Cornwall, only to have it marred by our treatment at this hotel. At first glance the hotel looks fine and the view from the restaurant is spectacular. But the fan in our bathroom would not turn off (loud at night), it smelled like something had died in the bedroom dresser so we could not unpack, the bedding was not changed for 4 days and the bedside lamp bulb was missing. We told the front desk the first day, the second day and also on the third day - only to be told that if we didn't like it we could leave (our prepaid room). At the end of the third day, the fan had been fixed, the bedding still not changed, the lamp apparently needed new parts and the dresser had been sprayed with a fresh air can, which made it worse. The restaurant staff were really fabulous, but the hotel staff were really rude - even to our neighbors in the next room. The manager was missing, fifteen minutes after we asked to speak to him so we tried to make the best of it. If you have a choice do not book into this hotel - their attitude is one of "take it or leave it" - and what a shame. This could be a really good hotel if run properly.

Area recommendations
There are two hotels on the headland just out of the town center, which have great views. The town center is fine for shopping during the day, but becomes rather racous at night, and some of the town hotels are in the middle of this. There is a fabulous restaurant the other side of town which is at the bottom of a beach parking lot. And it is easy to access other towns in Cornwall from this location.
When to go
It is much better in the spring and late summer, as apparently this town goes from 20,000 residents in the winter to 180,000 in the summer.
Getting around
We drove and access is easy to all the main roads to other Cornish towns. The roads were only one lane each way, but it was not the height of the summer, so there was not too much traffic.
Dining
Not that much too choose from in restaurants, except for the fast food kind. We ended up eating in other towns a couple of nights.

“mixed experience”

Lovely staff Great views Generally quiet despite a wedding being on easy to walk to town Steam and sauna tired and not working well....drafty steam room!! Pool windowless and noisy Room too hot - even with radiator off it gave out some heat, TV system crackly and cheap..also paint work needs some updating breakfast well cooked but poor quality ingredients let it down

“Nice Location, shame about the rooms”

The location is great, thier own private headland, beautiful views of the coast. Staff were pleasant, food was good. Only real problem was the bed - really uncomfortable mattress, regrettably on that basis alone won't be going back.
