“Comfort and Character on the Waterfront”

This is a classy hotel that has possibly the healthiest and tastiest breakfast selection I have ever experienced. Fruit selection included fresh figs, passionfruit, watermelon, other kinds of melon, in addition to apples, pears, bananas, and the usuals. There was every conceivable type of bread, meat, and the coffee was good. However, at least in my case, breakfast was an extra (not included with room charge), although it was worth it. The hotel is situation lengthwise across the water from Christianhavn, so your room can face the water or the hotel parking lot on the next street over. It's about a 12 minute walk to the Little Mermaid, and bus stops to every conceivable part of the city are just one to severak blocks away. It's also a few blocks away from the harbor ferry and a 12-15 minute walk to the Metro that can take you to the airport (about $36 and WAY cheaper than a taxi). I stayed at the hotel 5 nights. The hotel has a nautical theme. Early on, I noticed the bathroom sink wasn't working. When I complained, I had a maintenance man in my room in no time. I was switched into a better room with a better view within 30 min. When the maint man noticed I had a cold, he brought me some OTC medicine! The staff was great. I had a lot of fun with them, they were personable, patient, pleasant, assisted me any time that I needed directions or help, and offered frank opinions of sights when asked. Next time I'm in Copenhaven, I'd go back there w/o a second thought.

Area recommendations
I had heard a lot about Christiania--the "autonomous" neighborhood in Christianhavn. It sounded like the West Village in NYC or the Haight in San Francisco from the 60s. This is just my opinion, but I think it's overrated. There was a unique vibe, not always pleasant, but I ran past so many characters that looked like they were on the edge, that I wound up getting out of there with my expensive photo equipment quickly, as I was solo. There's also a "no photos" policy, which is kind of unfriendly, unless you consider the practical implications--namely, those selling drugs don't want their picture taken. Also, the stream that runs through the wooded park area nearby is so filthy it's hard to believe you're in Denmark. By comparison, the "autonomous" neighborhood in Vilnius, Lithuania was much more interesting, creative--and friendly. Somehow I got the impression Christiania was a place for the well-meaning and not-so well meaning creative and artistic set to do their thing, crash cheaply &, "turn on, tune in, & drop out.," to coin a phrase from a late ex-Harvard professor and 60s guru. Be sure to visit the unique-looking church with the spiral steeple and 400 steps to the top, within walking distance from Christiania and the CHvn Metro station. It's a fun exercise. Also nearby is the Architecture Design Center--highly recommended if you're into seeing cutting edge Danish design and architecture. They also have a great bookshop.
Getting around
Buses abound. However, there is a lot of construction in the city, so the actual route may be slightly different than that on your map. Simply ask the bus driver and show them the map; they speak excellent English, and will happily show you where your stop is located and what it is named (not always obvious).
What to pack
A few different jackets or layers, as the weather is unpredictable. I was there in early October, and experienced some of the hottest (and sunniest) days on record for Copenhagen. But it can also be cold, rainy, and windy. The weather forecast may change abruptly, so be prepared.

“Not Impressed”

This hotel specifies there is parking, but it is limited to about 20 spaces. If you cannot find a space, you have to find a spot on the street. My room smelled horrible from the bathroom drain. Rooms facing outside to the street are loud from taxi drivers out front and patrons. Breakfast was about the best thing with this hotel.

“Beautiful Hotel”

Excellent hotel, the only issue is "there is no air condition", and our room looked out over the parking, the windows have to be open and we were awoken very early in the mornig because of the sun and the noise .

“beautiful hotel architecture and food and location”

greaat building wonderful locationa nd nice rooms and bathrooms. Salt restaurant is excellent. No air conditioning so weindows need to be open. Some noise in evening but stops by 11pm. Service is courteous and friendly and helpful. I would definetly go back/ Breakfast should be included in price/ Most hotels in Europe include in price. We were surprized we had extra charge after three weeks in Expedia hotels in Norway where we didnt have to pay for breakfast, here we did/

Area recommendations
Copenhagen is wonderful walking city and metro and streetcars and trains are easy to use with cheap passes. All museums and Tivoli gaerdens are worth going to/ Its an expensive city for Americans but not as much as Norway

“Copenhagen Admiral”

Hotel is very conveniently located opposite the Opera House and nearby the Royal Palace and National Theater. The Restaurant, Salt, is outstanding and worth the trip. Dinner is expensive in all of Copenhagen, so be prepared to pay. The Admiral also offers a good breakfast, but charges for it separately. It is about $30. Rooms are adequate, very clean, but not spacious. The beds are way too soft for my taste. Taxi service is excellent. The staff are extremely helpful and make good suggestions about getting around. The hotel is used by large groups on occasion, so check in can take some time.

Area recommendations
Copenhagen has several neighborhoods nearby this Hotel. The shopping district, the hippie district (Christiansen), the Royal Museum, Tivoli Gardens, and the Royal Palace are all within fifteen minutes walk. You can also see the Mermaid without taking the subway or a taxi. Because the Hotel is not directly in the busy tourist area, it tends to be a little quieter.
Getting around
Walking is good enough, unless there is rain or a further destination. We did not kae it to the alleged Hamlet's Castle or Louisiana Gardens outside of town. A train is necessary to get to these destinations, but they are worth the trip.
Shopping
Copenhagen can be expensive, so choose wisely. Georg Jensen downtown is cheaper than the duty free goods at the airport. This may also be true for other stores or goods. Second, SAS does assess excess baggage fees quite precisely, so bring more than one suitcase if you intend to shop. The excess fee is $80 as of this writing.

“Overnight in Copenhagen - the Cruise - Admiral had character and charm”

Overall we liked the hotel Had a "old world" feel The hotel was very well situated to cruise port, walking, gardens and what appeared to be very safe area - Very clean neighborhood and located right on the canal and only a couple of blocks from "New Harbor" , a canal with lots of neat colored stores and apts and boats and lots of outside cafes. Easy to walk to at anytime. Prices were high in the restaurant so we ate at the Custom House, about 5 blocks away that sat on the canal. We would definitely recommend that grill type restuarant to anyone. Had one of our best meals there by far -- Admiral is old converted warehouse, as stated, rooms were small and windows small with no balcony, but we enjoyed the room as it felt like it had a lot of history. In short, we would go back and all service personnel were very helpful and friendly. PS they provided requested fan but never needed as temp was great

Area recommendations
Copenhagen is a very clean city with lots of biking with nice architecture and nice restaurants and shops. The "New Harbor" area (close to the cruise port) and the areas and cafes by the canals were great for eating, walking, and simply sightseeing We liked the area very much and one of our favorite cities on our 10 day Nordic tour. Lots to see and do and everyone seems to speak English and speak it well. Cab drivers were friendly also Service personnel were very helpful all over the area. Simpy a good experience

“Very Happy with Admiral Hotel”

Rooms were small but very nice. We had a room on the waterside and it was quiet and a nice breeze during the night. The hotel has a lot of character.
