“Love the wood floors in room; self-parking not convenient”

Hotel has unique culture with a European flare. The dark wood floors with area rug is a very welcome appointment. The long desk under the flat screen is great work/eat/set stuff down area and a nice variance from the dresser and desk in most hotels. The room was clean. Room service was friendly - and faster than they promised. The roof top was enjoyable. The reception at the front desk was accommodating; however, when an employee has a terrible head cold send him/her home! The self-parking is poorly marked both to the garage and also walking out of garage to hotel although proximity is close to hotel...you just have to know where you are going.

Getting there

Self Parking is accessible if you ask for garage information but not obvious to access street level. The lot is shared with competitor hotel which clearly marks directions (and has covered walk on level 2) to its hotel entrance. Would recommend Sheraton provide signage from lot to hotel.

“Average experience”

I would give this hotel 3 stars. Room was clean and comfortable but small. The room service breakfast was terrible- cold water for tea and dry and tasteless basket of muffins and rolls. The bathroom did not have an outlet for electrical appliances. Valet did not have the car ready despite having made a call for it. Also, the air conditioning for the entire hotel went off in the middle of the night (both nights we were there) and it could not be controlled with the room thermostat. There was also an error on billing in which I was overcharged. On the plus side- very good location.

“very charming”

I would recommend this hotel and with the exception of the rooms being a bit smaller than i would have liked, they were clean, and the bathroom was very clean and larger than most. Hotel staff were very pleasant , and food was very good. Convenient Starbucks located in the lobby made for additional convenience. University of South Carolina is a 10-15 minute walk and that was also convenient. I would stay there again without hesitation.

Area recommendations

Five Points area had many restaurants to choose from and would recommend. Having eaten in 3- 4of them over two separate occassions,there are different cuisines and price points to choose from, making it very convenient for anyone stayiong in Columbia,SC for business or pleasure. Shopping was also available, and again we experienced very friendly and hospitable sales clerks and did some shopping as well.

Events and shows

We attented the Parents Weekend at USC in Columbia, and attended a Home Football event.The southern hospitality in Columbia is real, and wherever we went, there was a genuine feeling of being welcomed, and the organization displayed by the University was quite impressive. Given the frequency and scale of big college events, clearly they have it down to a science.

“Great Hotel!”

I loved the hotel! Very charming. The rooftop bar was cool. Didn't get a chance to check out "The Vault", maybe next time! Will definitely stay here on my next visit to Columbia!

“An unexpected pleasure”

The hotel lobby used to be a bank in the1900s, complete with bank vault that is now a fabulous martini bar. Our room had the original hard wood complimented by a modern decor. The bathroom was spacious and CLEAN and had a flat screen t.v. in it. We're already thinking of excuses to travel to Columbia so we can stay at the Sheraton again.

Nightlife

The Vault martini bar in the Sheraton was a great find. It offers a quiet and intimate atmosphere and the owner/bartender is a master when it comes to making martinis.

“Best in Columbia, SC”

I arrived at the hotel a little early and was worried that my room would not be ready. I was very happy when I checked in and wasn't told that I had to wait. The room was a little smaller than what I expected. I was expecting only a standing shower in the bathroom but I had a tub and shower. I didn't have the room pictured on the site, but it was still nice. The bar on the roof is not enclosed so it was a little chilly at night. With a light jacket I had a great time and there here heaters surrounding the bar. The staff was great and very helpful when we were looking for things to do. The restaurants and things within walking distance of the hotel seemed to shutdown early over the weekend but there were still locations near by that were open. You have to park in the garage, if you don't want to feed a meater but the garage is free on the weekend.

“This hotel does fried potatoes well and that's about it.”

The bed was tripled sheeted with worn out sheets and a polyfil comforter.The room was so small, I thought I was in Europe. The windows had blinds and shades. However, they were not quality and the street lights came in anyway. The bathroom door, which had frosted glass was 3 feet from the bed. The bathroom though small was nice and the (3) towels were nice. There was no turn down service so you better make them last. The "nice" restaurant was open by appointment only due to lack of business.......I think you get my drift...Oh I should mention the Starbucks in the lobby is open in the morning...don't expect to have a cup of tea after a long day. This could be a great hotel. I was very disappointed.
