“Great hotel”

Already knew where this hotel was, so was very happy with the area. 15 minutes from The Dom. Plenty of Restaurants an excellent shopping. We had a excellent package which included breakfast, which was one of the very best we have had. Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms not large but with all facilities one needs for a comfortable stay. Would definitely return.

Area recommendations
All areas around The Dom are excellent. Along The Rhine.

“top quality and pure luxury”

very helpful english speaking reception staff, nothing too much trouble.Beautiful room (given free upgrade), amazing shower. lovely touch having coffee machine in room, unlimited provision of expresso pods. Breakfast superb from 0630-1100 with unlimited champagne.(missed this on last morning as slept in but as it was my birthday asked waitress and it was no trouble).will now try other Pullman hotels as so impressed.

When to go
christmas markets lovely but avoid being there on a sunday as no shops open

easy to get train from airport to centre (20 mins) and only 2.5 euros each (taxi 29)

“Smart hotel, nice rooms, expensive bar!”

Easy to find hotel, 10 minute stroll from Hauptbahnhof or a 31 Euro Taxi ride from the airport. Very smart hotel, staff weren't overly forthcoming with tourist info when we got there unlike when we stayed at the Excelsior Ernst the year before where they bent over backwards to be helpful. The room was nice but very hot, the heated bathroom floor really wasn't necessary but there were opening windows. Beds were really comfortable and a good night's sleep was had. Great view from our room on the 8th floor towards the cathedral so overall very good. Be warned if you are going for a drink in the bar though, it is extortionate, 11 Euros for a shot of Jamesons, 8 or 9 Euros for a Baileys plus you can smoke in there so you're better off going out to drink where the Kolsch beer is half the price. A minor quibble though and I'd definitely stay here again.

Area recommendations
For the Christmas Markets the main one by the Cathedral is tremendously atmospheric at night but the one in Heumarkt in the Altstadt is even nicer. The half metre long pork or chicken skewers have to be tasted to be believed. Cologne is not a healthy eating destination that's for sure but if you are a carnivore you'll be in heaven! The smaller market by the Schokoladenmuseum is nice and a lot quieter than the main ones so worth a visit. Also a pub crawl around the Bierhaus in the Aldstadt is a must, the local Kolsch is a lovely beer. Just avoid the Schnapps chasers if you want to make into the night!
When to go
It would be a really nice destination any time but it has to be in the Christmas period that it is at its' best with Christmas markets that make the ones back look pathetic in comparison.
Getting there
Flying into Koln/Bonn is easy enough from Heathrow or Stansted. You can either pay 2.50 Euros each and get the S-Bahn into the main station which is right opposite the cathedral or a taxi cost me just over 30 Euros so if there is a group of you probably less hassle to get a taxi and they are all nice big Mercedes saloons in the main so a comfortable ride.
Getting around
All of the main tourist areas eminate from the Cathedral area and are in easy walking distance. The old town (Altstadt) is 10 minutes walk and the Xmas markets are all walkable from the centre. The Chocolate museum is a little further away but taxis are pretty cheap compared to the UK.
Nightlife
I have only really been out around the Aldstadt where all the Kolsch Bierhaus are located but they are brilliant, full of atmosphere and character in some of the larger ones. Papa Joe's Biersalon is worth a visit for something a bit quirky and there own liqueur "The Doctor" will blow your socks off while their freaky jukebox controlled mannequins are like something from Doctor Who! If in the Xmas markets then there are plenty of bars serving various mulled wine based drinks, Gluhwein, beer, hot chocolate with Amarreto etc. Watch out for the Eisbrecher, a mulled red wine with a double shot of rum in it, evil stuff! It is a fun city to go out in, friendly locals and staff and a good atmosphere.

“Cologne Gem”

Hotel was nicely located not far from the cathedral or Neumarkt where they had one of the main christmas markets. Cologne is very easy to get around, so the location of the hotel was not an issue. The rooms were very clean and comfortable.

Must see
The cologne Cathedral and the Lindt Chocolate Museum is a must see! Go especially in Late novemeber to december to enjoy the christmas markets and the mulled wine!

“Great Hotel, great location, great breakfast”

From the moment we checked in with the friendly front desk staff we had a great experience at the Pullman. Superb construction meant the hotel was at all times very quiet. It has been comfortably furnished with really nice beds - the only furniture that was hideously uncomfortable was the huge sprawling chair in the room which tips over and throws one on the floor if you sit near the edge - quite dangerous! The breakfast buffet was superb - something for everyone. The location is good in a quiet area but with close access to the city. If all Pullman Hotels are like this one we would certainly use this group again.

“Well all rounder hotel”

I read the reviews about this hotel and then selected this one. It's about 8-10min walk to Dom and main station, and I liked that it was away from the busy main streets so I could sleep with the windows open. Room was typical of a 4+star and all but on one day was I disappointed with housekeeping. Staff very friendly and helpful in planning my few days in the area. Read a lot in the reviews about breakfast but to be honest it was no more than a typical spread for this class of hotel, offering cold and hot buffet breakfast. That said it was helpful to completely fill up with "fuel" in the morning so I did not feel to eat again till late afternoon. If I'm in Cologne again I would stay at this hotel again.

Area recommendations
I would suggest everyone to take a walk along the river and across the bridge which has 100's of locks from couples declaring their love for forever. Also if weather is good do visit the cable car and sit and enjoy the park. I was happy staying in the area of the Pullman hotel, away from the noise but easy to walk to most places.

Walk as much as you can so you can take in the buildings and atmosphere
What to pack
Cologne is like London sodon't be suprised if you get 4 seasons in a day!
Must see
If you can do a day trip to Dusseldorf. Takes 30mins by train to get there and you can see most of the city in few hours. Great place for shopping!
Other
If you like chocolate go to the museum, otherwise just go and see the shop. Had a decililous local chocolate that had rose petals...wonderful. It's a shame I cannot buy it in the UK!

“Very good choice for Cologne trip”

Location - very good, not very close to public transportation bet next to everything Cleaningness - exellent Conditions and maintenance - the hotel is not new, still it's higly maintained! Breakfast is one of the best.

“excellent hotel, good staff, convenient location”

Highly recommended. Very nice, comfortable rooms, modern decor and beautiful bathroom. Location is very central to the town center and shopping.
