“great hotel”

20 minute walk to town centre... friendly staff. immediate surrounding area doesnt offer much, but very comfortable hotel

“Could be excellent if...”

This hotel is very well located , within a 15 minute walk from the cathedral and main train station. The staff at the reception are friendly and helpful. There is free access to the internet. Our room was very luxurious and spacious and offered a very pleasant, quiet environment. The hotel suffers a lot from its location close to a major construction site which makes access on foot a bit more tedious. We did not experience any extra noise due to the construction site (we stayed there on a Monday night. Breakfast was available at twice the price normally charged by other hotels and we decided to take our breakfast elsewhere.

“rip off”

Didn't stay here the other day, was already back in the states. Booked a month in advance, on accident, was not given a refund of any kind, most unfortunate, will never stay at one of these hotels again.

“Great Hotel ...Wrong time to visit”

The Hotel is great with no issues at all. The problem I had was that they are building a new Tube station at the side of the Hotel . The building work starts at 6.00am and is very loud from the side of the hotel I was on. Ear protection was provided by the Hotel LOL

Great City Cologne and ideally situated at this Hotel once the building work is complete next door.

When to go

Cologne is fantastic Nov to Christmas . The Markets are excellent and great fun. Midweek is less crowded.

“Good but...”

Cannot fault the cleanliness of the hotel or the friendliness of the staff as both were very good indeed. The surrounding road works were a little bit of an annoyance as it could cause some excess noise at times. This would have been ok if we could have closed the room windows but, due to the lack of air conditioning meant that the windows had to be kept open all the time. The short walk into the city is very easy and takes about 10 minutes at the most . There are a good few things to do such as the chocolate museum, city tours, zoo etc as such managed to pack quite a lot in to our few days there and was excellent value overall. Will go back to Cologne but will choose a different hotel next time.

“A Wonderful Stay In Koeln!!!!”

Wonderful distance from the center. A nice walk through the neighborhood. Close to the tram, close to the river, one of many bridges. I really had a wonderful time there.

Area recommendations

Old Town, NeuMarkt. Basically just get out and walk! There is so much to see!!!

Nightlife

There are wonderful bars around New Markt. A great Live Music club called Blue Shell

“value for money hotel”

We stayed at Mercure Hotel Severinshof Koeln City for four nights. I can't fault the service form the staff or the cleanliness of the hotel. The location, while not slap bang in the centre of Cologne was handy for the Old Town area (10 mins walk) and there is a subway station directly facing the hotel. My only real gripe with the hotel was the level of noise. There is a main road and rail line running along the side of the hotel. This may not be such an issue if you get a room on the far side but I was woken earlier than I would have liked due to traffic noise (I'm not a morning person). There was also noise from maintenance within the hotel. That being said I would still recommend the hotel as it is clean, comfortable and the staff were efficient and helpful. There is also free internet access in the lobby.

“Would definitely recommend”

The hotel was a very good standard and excellent value for money for what we wanted and paid. It is a typical "hotel-chain" type of hotel and appears to cater for a lot of business conferences etc so not the choice of hotel if you want something cosy, quaint and character full! However, it very much suited our trip the the Xmas markets (again would definitely recommend and the location was excellent for this). The staff were always very polite and extremely accomodating. I can especially recommend the breakfast with its excellent selection of dishes to suit all tastes and plenty of it which set us up very nicely for the day :-) - enjoy!

Area recommendations

Excellent for walking into the shopping centre and Christmas markets or catch the tram or train.. nice shops in the close vicinity too.

“Okay, but nothing special.”

Thought I would have a nicer room for the amount I paid. Not horrible, just..."meh". My colleagues stayed at different hotels for similar rates and had much better experience. Sheets were visibly dirty and breakfast was not included. I'm not picky at all, but for the money I paid I thought it would be better. Train is literally right next to hotel though, which was great. Lots of construction outside the hotel, so kind of ugly, and woke me up in the morning. Once that is finished I bet it will be much nicer.

Area recommendations

I recommend staying in Altstadt (north), closer to the cathedral if possible. This hotel is in Altstadt (south). That's being picky though. Just to be a bit more in the center of things.

“Good place”

This hotel wasn't difficult to find; was right next to a metro stop, but wasn't too far of a walk to the city center. We really liked that they had a garage for our car, too. Would recommend staying here.
