“I'm sorry breakfast is not included in your rate”
Generally good value for money, however internet was chargeable, lifts are slow and illogical in the way they operate and the shower in over the bath and lack of a shower cubicle suggest this hotel is older than it appears to be. At breakfast there is a very crude attempt to corale you like sheep towards the "gatekeeper" who allows access to the breakfast buffet, he needed to apologise for the fact that when he checked our room number that it did not include breakfast, it would have been sufficient to ask if he could charge the room without making us feel like third class citizens who apparently could not afford a room rate with breakfast. The only complaint about breakfast ; who eats pancakes that are cold and filled with yoghurt?,
“Good Location, nice hotel”
Be advised you pay for everything in this hotel. Internet is 15 euro a day!
“One of my favorites”
I have stayed at the Maritim before and chose to stay here again because of the excellent staff and the comfort of the hotel. The hotel is located just off the Heumark Plaza with many restaurants and cafe's closeby. Its also located just a short walk away from the popular shopping district and a room with a northern view will usually have a good view of the famous Koln Cathedral. The Maritim may be listed as a four star but with five star quality and service it will always be one of my favorites.
“Nice but lacking in personality”
This is a pretty standard chain 4-star hotel (like the Hilton, but a bit older). The room was clean, tidy and spacious. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. There are few things that I would fault; the first is the lack of tea/coffee making facilities in the room so I had to order room service or go to the restaurants for my morning coffee. The second is the fact that there is only one changing room beside the pool for both men and women, so if you're very modest about seeing people of the opposite sex showering in the buff, borrow a robe and avoid the changing room altogether by walking straight from your room poolside and vice versa! Also, like many European cities, a double bed isn't actually a double bed - it's two twin beds pushed together, so check if you're in for a romantic getaway!
“Nice, But a bit Off the Top of its Game”
The hotel is a bit like a city: there are at least 20 shops on the ground level, from newsstands to fancy restaurants, and the entire first floor is a domed over town square, where one can sit and have a nice coffee any time of day. The location is OPTIMAL: right across from the Rhine, and a short walk to the best places in Cologne, including the Cathedral. The hotel itself was probably a stunner when it was built, I'm guessing 20-30 years ago. But the decor is stuck in gilded 80s cliches. I attended a conference there, and the meeting rooms are crying out for an update. The conference food was also pretty bad, but I don't think that's the fault of the hotel; breakfast in their restaurant was quite good. The prices are, for Europe, quite reasonable. There is a lack of wireless access in the rooms so, if you have a computer, be sure it can accept an old-fashioned ethernet connection. The staff speaks excellent English, by the way, and were all HIGHLY professional, well-dressed and courteous.
“'my favorate hotel'”
thank you so much for your services i'm your frequent customer.
“Good business hotel”
Attended a conference here - food very good. Location great. All enclosed courtyard and rooms on the inside were noisy, but OK. I did not like the fact you had to always use a lift (and wait) with a roomcard - stairs would have been a healthier option! Courteous and pleasant service.
“i will always be at the Maritim when I am in Cologne”
already all writen highly recomended
“Hugh breakfast!”
Nice hotel- good breakfast- location is excellent for the Fair Grounds- worth the extra Money!
“Good location, good bathrooms, rooms ok”
Very near city center and exhibition center. Some restaurants in the hotel, but better to go outside retaurants if the weather is nice and you can sit outside. Public transport to exhibition center in front of the hotel. Very easy. Bathrooms has been reconstructed and top of the bill. Beds/Rooms are ok.
