“Great Location - brilliant Buffet breakfast!”

the hotel was 2 mins walk from 2 Christmas markets which is why we were visiting, and the cathedral so it perfect.

“Excellent location!”

This is the perfect hotel for sightseeing in Cologne. Right next to the Dom and very convenient for walking to any other attractions. Parking and breakfast is expensive, but the hotel is very close to coffee and pastry shops. There is a string of restaurants 2 blocks behind the hotel along the Rhine. We ate at 2 of them and they were wonderful. The desk clerk recommended restaurants and gave us walking directions for everywhere we wanted to go. The room was a good size (for Europe) and immaculate. The shower was good, the bed was comfortable, and there was plenty of storage space. There are smoking rooms available which are not easy to find anymore, and the windows open which was nice. My only complaint is that the bed was low and I didn't like the pillows, but hey, that's nothing compared to the excellent location. This hotel is a good choice for tourists visiting Cologne, but be prepared for pricey parking. Once you're there though, you don't need the car for anything.

Must see

When visiting Cologne you must see the Dom, but my favorite sight was the Gestapo prison. They kept it intact exactly how it was including grafitti scratched into the walls of the cells. It's very eery. Get the English audioguide if you don't speak German.

“Great Location!”

Very good location, near everything in the center on cologne. Rooms were nice. Friendly staff. note, there is hotel parking around the back. there is also another one on the side which is independent. But costs are the same and good security.

“Good hotel, happy to go back”

The only thing I can think of that I would change would be to have tea and coffee making facilities in the room, otherwise thoroughly enjoyable time.

Went for the Christmas markets - go to them when they open around 11am if you actually want to be able to move! Great atmospher, lethal Gluhwien (recommend having it with Rum) so don't go too mad with it :)

“Hotel Mondial in May 2010”

Great location, infront of the Dome and all other local attractions. When stayed there the road works were right infront of the hotel, so it felt a bit cluttered. The hotel was a bit on ascetic side for my liking, but had all comfort that one might require, though think that TVs can be upgraded.

In May there was pretty cold, so I take some warm clothes!

“Very unimpressed”

The poor level of service we had on check in continued throughout our entire stay at the hotel, including the reception staff who we found to be very unhelpful. When we informed the hotel of our check-out time, they did not take the initiative to send up a bell-boy to collect our luggage. We ended up checking out a day earlier from the hotel. The hotel itself is quite nice and well positioned right near the Cologne Dom and the central train station. Our room was very clean but incredibly small for two people which is not what you would expect in a five star hotel. The hotel had a nice gym and spa to use which was on the basement of the hotel. However, there was a construction site directly out the front of the hotel, i don't think it was in operation when we were staying at the hotel but it may be worthwhile to check with the hotel before booking.

“Great location for Cologne's Christmas markets”

The hotel was in a great location, sitting between the cathedral and the river, less than a five minute walk from Hauptbahhoff railway station (direct trains to Cologne/Bonn airport 16 mins). From the hotel, we could easily walk to the main market in the cathedral square, to the 'gnome' market and the floating market. There was a great little train (on wheels) that took you to all seven of the markets, with pick up and drop off almost all day, which was really handy. The weather was bitterly cold, but dry, even so, we were glad of getting transport wherever we could. Loads of great coffee shops to go into and warm up to break up the walking. We were delighted with our three day/two night break.
