“Very impressed”

Spent 3 nights on romantic break. Very impressed overall with quality. The sauna and pool were very welcome. Staff were helpful, polite and professional. No problems at all. Would definitely stay here again. Bit of a walk to the Dom for those with impediments, but otherwise, a reasonable stroll. Very close to the Christmas markets, but found them expensive compared to the high street department stores. Hotel is definitely to be recommended.

“Hotel Lyskirchen. On the banks of the Rhine down a side street in Cologne”

Remember this is a basic 4 star hotel and there was a discounted rate when I booked and for the money it was good value.Located not in the centre of Cologne but within 10 to 15 minutes maximum walk to the Cathedral (turn right out of hotel and walk along the Rhine embankment and look for the spires of the cathedral is the best way to get to the centre of town). On embankment close to Hotel is Chocolate Museum & Olympic Sports Museum are worth a visit. Breakfast in hotel expensive and wouldn't recommend it for every day of your trip.Disappointed with cooked breakfast which was warmed up particularly scrambled egg. Biggest disappointment particularly for avid sports fans, no English channels on TV in rooms when we visited.Did make enquiries about buying channels but was told not available due to reception problems. If you don't like feathered pillows make sure you ask for an alternative. Overall hotel is fine, clean and quiet and for the same price would stay again. Didn't come into contact with hotel staff much but were pleasant and helpful when we did. As for Cologne, you need a reason to visit. We went for a football match and for the Christmas markets which were crowded and expensive but certaintly put you in the Christmas mood.Cathedral definately worth a visit.

“Extremely noisy”

The hotel itself was good. Unfortunately there was constant noise from a building site nearby. Furthermore the traffic noise was very intrusive and occured throughout the night. Sadly this would mean I would not stay at the hotel again.

Area recommendations
I cannot recommend another area as this was the first time I stayed in Cologne.

“Just Fine and Dandy”

The hotel is in a great location to see the main attractions on Koln (as they say). Some reviewers made an issue out of the shower being in the bedroom, which it is, but there is also a curtain that can be drawn across the whole sink an shower area. It is really not an issue. It is nice, modern hotel and I would stay there again. Breakfast is little pricy at 15 euros if you don't have a voucher.

“Great Location”

The hotel is a 5 minute taxi from the Railway staion only 7 Euros, the location is perfect for exploring the Altstadt and the Rhine. The room was perfect staff great and we had a lovely break at the Lyskirchen. We would definitely recommend it.

Area recommendations
The Rhine river tour 2 hours is lovely and only 11 Euros and hiring a bike for a ride down the RIver is a great experience.
Getting there
The S13 train from the Airport takes to you to the city centre in minutes for only £2.40 a short taxi ride to the hotel only £6
Dining
In the nearby Altstadt there are dozens of great restaurants, snack bars and of all types and for ever taste and budget.

“Great place to stay”

A very good hotel. Clean, comfortable, convenient. Noted other reviews about the location of the shower and the price of the breakfast. The shower location is not an issue, and there is a curtain that you can draw across the room for privacy if you need it. The breakfast is indeed very expensive but there are so many cafes in walking distance, there is no need to pay it. The hotel don't oblige you to take breakfast there. The staff were really helpful and accommodating. Great location for Christmas markets, cathedral and the Chocolate Museum - a must visit. Would definitely stay there again.

Area recommendations
The Chocolate Museum is excellent - really very interesting and not entirely what I expected. It also has a lovely cafe overlooking the river. Plus free chocolate! And if you are there in December, the AlterMarkt and NeuMarkt Christmas markets are great. The Mediaeval market is a rip off and the Dom market characterless.

“A Room with a Pool...and a Shower”

This hotel is a 5-10 minute walk from the central area of Cologne, very near the river. Its most impressive features were the oversized swimming pool and sauna. Lobby and common areas are also very nice. Indoor garage parking was convenient, secure, and affordable. Hotel staff are very accommodating, and the rooms are nice. The only thing that we found odd was that the shower stall was located in the main sleeping area, just a few feet from one of the beds. This made for a lot of laughter, but could be awkward for some guests. Thankfully, there is a separate water closet.

Area recommendations
Zentrum area is very near the cathedrals, shops and restaurants.
Getting around
We found Cologne to be very confusing to navigate by car. Our online maps did not correspond directly with the exit and street signs, so we had a difficult time finding our hotel. Once you are in the Zentrum (central downtown) area, however, it is easy to get around on foot.

“Excellent hotel”

Friendly, efficient staff, well-furnished and maintained room, excellent breakfast, a delightful swimming pool all contribute to the excellence of this hotel. The location is very good, too, in the old town about 10 minutes walk from the main station.

Area recommendations
The old town, south of the cathedral is probably the most attractive part of the city.

“Good price and reasonable accomodation/siting”

Reasonable hotel, not too far away from old city and main shopping street, although not just next door either. Accomodation is fine although I have seen better for the number of stars of the hotel. Hotel staff is friendly and rooms are clean. Just didn't like the handshower that could not be hung correctly.... the only real bummer in the experience.
