“Disappointed”
I was most disappointed with this hotel for 2 reasons, firstly my booking was for a Queen Bed, non-smoking, in reality I was in a room with a single bed which was only seperated from the neighbouring room by way of a temporary wall partition (I assume it is used as a fmaily room on occasions). The hotel was full so I could not move. The adjoining room was not occupied on the first 2 nights of my stay but on the third morning I awoke to a very strong smell of smoke from my neighbour which was coming under the partition and could clearly hear every movement in that room. The second issue is regarding the process this hotel has introduced for charging for breakfsat. On booking I selected not to take breakfsat (preferring to take it in the exhibition hall). On arrival I was again asked if I wanted breakfast and I declined. I was then given 3 small slips of paper that said `Hotel Dorint Breakfast Voucher' on them (with no further explanation) with my room key. I disposed of these in my room as I still did not wish to take breakfast at the hotel. On checking out they tried to charge me for 3 breakfasts (at about £25/day I beleive), I explained that I had not taken breakfast, they checked the records and agreed, but then proceeded to tell me that without returning the slips of paper I was still liable to pay for the 3 breakfasts. It took some persuading on my part that I would not be paying and he did remove the charge from my bill - albeit begrudgingly.
“Medica Visit”
Excellent hotel bar prices a bit on the expensive but being next to koln messe not suprising overall good hotel would stay again
“Hotel Dorint for the Christmas Market”
Excellent and very friendly hotel. Fifteen metres from a tram stop and ten minutes walk from Deutz station make it incredibly easy to use this hotel as a base for travelling around Cologne. Alstadt and Heumarkt are a five minutes tram journey and Neumarkt ahnd the central shopping area ten minutes away. The local shops in Deutzer Freiheit are a ten minutes walk away and allow you to visit local butchers, bakeries and local bars. Note that I mentioned the local bars, The food here was exceptional and better value than eating in the Alstadt. You also get to meet and converse with locals. Something that very rarely happens in the touristy places. Worth a visit.
“Dont bother”
Very disappointed with hotel arrived early evening couldnt get anything to eat in bar area, they didnt try to accomodate us., had room service in the end but they were very busy. - booked romantic meal for 2 by e mail with confirmation got to L'Adresse very expensive restaurant at booking time. Restaurant was full. Oh sorry we have a problem so was ushered to next door restaurant that didnt have a table same as previous night.. complained at reception was ushered to breakfast room given cheaper menu with no atmosphere totally ruined romantic weekend. Room not cleaned when we returned on two occasions was done later. should be stripped of two stars. Beds very uncomfortable, hard gave us back ache couldnt sleep. Had to change our own shampoo bottle taken from trolley in the corrider. Dont expect to pay for a 4* Hotel and get 2nd rate service. Felt uncomfortable in Spa didnt like they way the only person in swimsuit in spa. couldnt go into sauna clothed. Went for Christmas Markets didnt matter what time of day you went Too busy, wont do this again.
“Excellent location for business travel”
The room was very clean and very quiet. The service was excellent; However, the bed, which was quoted as a queen-sized bed, was really two twin beds pushed together. So if you wanted to sleep diagonal you had a nice crack to contend with. Also, what is up with the TV? It was outdated, the remote was minimally responsive and the color on the screen was horrible for the pay channels. Even Vegas, where they want you on the gambling floor, has better TV's. Also the restaurants were a bit pricey for my liking.
“Excellent choice for people who want to stay in a quality hotel for a reasonable price”
The hotel was excellent no complaints at all. Good service, clean and serve a good breakfast. It would be a perfect for leisure travelers if the hotel was in the city center. It's about 10eur from down town to hotel and 20-30min walk. i would highly recommend this hotel!
“Top Quality Hotel”
Very modern and well equipped hotel with all the facilities you could want for. A little out of the centre about 10Euros in a taxi or a twenty minute walk over the river. The english staff were most helpful and its worth e-mailing and requesting a 6th floor room with views over the city. Hotel a little on the expensive side for drinks and food but that is just a 4 star hotel and the exchange rate of the euro. Do like to add things to your room bill but they are good at sorting it out. Overall an superb modern hotel with everything you may need. The Peking restaurant opposite the Dom was an excellant meal as was Goucho in the Barbarassa platz complex . Go at this time of year and enjoy the markets and hospitality!!!
“Cologne - fun on the Rhone (lol)”
Sorry about the title...I couldn't resist it! This was our 2nd hotel of our 10 hotel Euro road-trip. The hotel is opposite the exhibition centre and I am sure it is packed during those times so I'm glad that we weren't there then! The room was quite small overlooking the inner courtyard so was quiet although considering the lack of occupancy, they could have given us a room looking over the back of the hotel. The hotel is conveniently located for the city via and only takes 10 minutes to get to. The city offers a multitude of attractions, not least the Rhone tour. The hotel offers a really wonderful spa and chillout area plus the hyper invigorating shaved ice to pour over your head after the inferno of the sauna!! There is also a choice of shower units with different spouts and temperatures, but I have found that this is pretty standard with high-quality German hotels. They really do this very well and as long as you don't mind the nakedness, it's a lot of fun! The breakfast that was included was very tasty but the room was extremely stuffy. To be honest we did have a good laugh at the ridiculous varieties of food that some of the Oriental guests insisted on piling onto their plates at the same time, but hey, each to their own! Avoid the omelettes made by the work-experience lad...dreadful! When we return to Koln, I will definitely check their rates first. PS: The internet cost is a downright rip-off but strangely enough they offer 3 channels of 24hr non-stop porn for free!!!
“16 night stay”
As an English speaking American in a large German city, the staff at the Dorint went above and beyond to assist with all our needs. All of the desk staff spoke English remarkably well, as well as the wait staff in the restaurants. The pool/spa area is super. Just one comment for families... many of the young men who used the spa, did so au naturel, as is common (I'm told) in Germany. (I saw no women do the same.) I actually saw very few children at the hotel during our stay. The restaurant food was excellent, although a little pricy.
“great location”
