“Great location but rooms a bit of a let down”

I stay in Cologne most weeks for business and thought I'd give the Dom Le Meridien a try rather than the Hilton. It has a great location being right next to the Dom and close to the train station and plenty of restaurants. When I arrived in the Lobby I was impressed with the decor, but as expected at this price the room itself was round the back of the hotel with no view of anything but the kitchen ducting. The room was very small (half the size of the Hilton), very hot and stuffy with poor air conditioning. But it was clean and room service was good. Though I didn't bother with the 28 Euros for Breakfast and grabbed something at the Station. Next week I'm back at the Hilton as location isn't everything.

“Next to the Dom”

Overalll pretty satisfied with the hotel. It has a great location if you want to be next to the Cathedral. It is more expensive than other options but worth it if you want the location. Everyone I encountered spoke enough English (some very good English) to answer my questions. Hotel is very nice and clean and the service as excellent.

“A class act”

A well run hotel, beautifully situated across from the Dom, with comfortable rooms, impeccable service and an excellent buffet breakfast.

Area recommendations

The 12 Romanesque churches are richly varied, full of historic interest and take you on foot through the ancient and very modern parts of this interesting city.

When to go

Lovely in early April as the blossom comes out and restaurants have their spargel (white asparagus) special menus.

“Charming hotel. Fantastic location.”

The hotel was very nice and the location was perfect. Right in the heart of Cologne. The evening concierge was fantastic and recommended terrific restaurants. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. However, the rooms themselves were a little worn and could use some updating, especially new carpet would help a lot. The bathrooms were small, but functional. Definitely nothing fancy. However, overall it was a wonderful experience and we would go back!

“Hotel in the midst of chaos”

They held a wedding on Saturday night which took up most of our floor and the ballroom below - dancing until 3am - impossible to sleep. Airconditioning spotty at best

“Stunning location, great deal”

An otherwise pricey hotel, got a great deal on Expedia. It is the centre of Cologne, so couldn't be better. Staff are very well trained, attentive and courteous. English is spoken fluently (and perfect German as well!)

“Friendly Staff”

The hotel is beautiful, with a great location to the train station (Hauptbanhoff) and the central shopping. The river is an easy walk, as is the night life. The best part about Hotel Dom was their friendly staff. They were efficient and knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable and at ease in a foreign country. I felt that they were interested in making my stay as comfortable as possible. I highly recommend this hotel.

“Excellent location”

Excellent location, and very friendly welcome. Slight disappointment as room was booked for 2 single beds but we were given a double - not a major problem but odd for a 5 star Hotel. Also room was, as requested, designated as non-smoking, but the room had smell of stale smoke. This was most noticeable when we returned home and unpacked as our clothes still had slight smell of cigarette smoke.

Traveller's tip

Cologne DOM is magnificent and right on the doorstep, as is the train station which is only 15-20 mins direct from the airport.
