“"Location, location and locationt"”

This was my very first trip to Cologne so I needed a place for just one night at a reasonable price and a great location. The Hotel Callas was that place. Sure, I read some of the reviews before I booked, and took those remarks into consideration. Despite what negative responses people said about this place, (which aren’t that big of an issue) you can’t find a better place so conveniently located at such a value price. I’m a pretty seasoned traveler so I have found that location, location; location is a very key element after traveling from long distances. I am a single guy so the room had plenty of space for me. From my room I could see the Cathedral just a couple blocks away. The breakfast in the morning was A+ and tasty as well, it had everything. I even took pictures of the food arrangement because it looked that good. The staff was great too. The manager/owner, well… “He was like an old friend;” I told him that I would be back again in the summer, for sure. Cologne is a great place and the Hotel Callas is in a million dollar location. Cheers, Hotel Callas.

Area recommendations

The Christmas festivals are so great, everybody was in such a great mood. The people of Cologne were very nice and friendly. The area around the Cathedral has everything one would want to experience.

“Not impressed”

Owner or manager was smoking all day on Saturday, cigarrette smelling was bad and triggered allergies on me and other person sharing room. Breakfast was good, cleanliness good except for cigarrettesmelling. Poor directions to hotel, advise to include in hotel information that hotel is on area reserved for walking/no car access. Excellent location but room was extremely noisy because it was in hotel front, difficult to sleep.

Area recommendations

Christmas Markets were excellent. Great place for shoing but a little expensive.

Getting around

Avoid driving. Train station is close to Cathedral and several hotels. If you drive to get there, park your car while you are in the city.

“Friendly staff, great location”

Near to the railway station and the Cathedral, this is an ideal hotel for exploring Cologne. Its friendly and helpful staff serve a superb breakfast! Its only negative feature is its location on a very busy street which might not help insomniacs!

“Loudy hotel”

“good location”

Hotel is in extremely good location for sight seeing and shopping - can get to things by walking. Hotel staff were friendly, and spoke english. Room was clean and a good size for one person.

“Nice small hotel”

After reading reviews wasn't sure about staying there. However, our room had just been refurbished and was quite nice and was at the back of hotel which was quiet. The staff were very helpful and cheerful. On the downside, the TV was quite old as stated in a previous review, there was no air conditioning and refurbishing work was being carried out while we were staying there (a bit like the 'Carry On' films). But overall we had a nice stay and we would definitely go back.

Traveller's tip

The hotel was near the railway station, Cathedral and river. It is a must to walk up the spiral staircase (500 steps) to the top of the Cathedral - the view is wonderful. There is a little train nearby that will take you to the Zoo and Chocolate Museum. If you are going to do a lot of travelling while you are there it is worth buying a Welcome Card which you can use on all trains and trams and also gives you a discount in various places.
