“Aloft DC”
Aloft was a nice modern option. The staff was very helpful and the location in National Harbor was right in the middle- an easy walk to any location, including Gaylord Convention Center. My only negative was that I felt the beds were too hard and pillows too soft which made for poor sleep. That latter point is more subjective so I wouldnt let that deter you. Overall, great staff, eclectic venue and convenient location.
“Great location”
While it was unfortunate the bathroom light was non functional throughout the hotel, and the hotel bar was extremely overpriced ($15.50 martini), I found the staff friendly and helpful. The local neighborhood was upscale and had a nice mix of stores and restaurants. It had a great location near the Gaylord National Resort.
“Best bang for your buck”
The hotel is has a refreshing, contemporary character throughout; the clean, convenient rooms are small but well designed--has a very modern feel to it. I was in town for a physical therapy conference at the Gaylord, and Aloft was extremely cheaper than the Gaylord, but just as nice. The staff was top notch and extremely helpful. With beautiful harbor views, I will be using this hotel again next time!
“Not impressed”
The room itself was a little funky, I guess to try and make it modern. The bathroom (shower/toilet), rather than having a conventional door, had a sliding partition. Which was fine, except that the partition kept sliding open, so basically you'd have to shower or use the bathroom with the door open. When we contacted the front desk, they offered to move us, but from the 7th floor (next to our friends who we were visiting with to the 3rd floor (with a view of the condos across the street, instead of the harbor like we had on the 7th floor). This time the bathroom door closed, but the ice bucket in the room was full of melted ice, which makes me wonder how well it had been cleaned. Additionally, our friends' room (still on the 7th floor) had a big brown stain in the middle of the carpet, and one of the complementary bottles of water was half empty. Finally, the hot breakfast sandwichs we had been told about when we checked in were a no-go when we checked out, as the toaster oven was broken, so it was just cereal and muffins for breakfast (not included in the cost of the room, of course!). All in all, a very disappointing experience. I know the National Harbor is expensive, but for the price I pay I expect high quality. I've gotten better quality rooms for half the cost in other areas i've stayed in. If I would have known ahead of time, I would have kicked in a few more bucks and stayed at the Gaylord.
“Not like the Aloft in Linthicum, MD”
The vanity lights in the bathroom were not working. The room was entirely too small for the price. This is my second stay at a Starwood Hotel but the one in Linthicum, MD was much better. As far as the cleanliness of the room, I only noticed the bed linens were not that clean. It looked like little lint balls or fibers from something else were washed with it. The parking garage is expensive too but you do have the option to come and go using the garage ticket and your room key. If it weren't for the rain I would have spent more time outside of the room. There was a nice patio outside of the check-in desk. I'm not sure if I would stay here again.
“Fun, Modern, Remote”
The hotel is has a refreshing, contemporary character throughout; the clean, convenient rooms are small but well designed, like being on a yacht. The only trouble with this hotel is its location in National Harbor. It's convenient only if you are attending a conference at Gaylord National, but otherwise there would be no reason at all to choose a hotel in this isolated, out-of-the-way, far-from-everything bend in the river.
“Good but hidden charges.”
I booked the hotel online and the funds were immediately deducted from the account. When I travel, usually carry cash or travelers checks, no credit cards. When I arrived I was told I had to put down another deposit for "incidentals". $50 cash or $100 by credit. This was unexpected and since the room had been paid for I did not understand... Otherwise, the hotel was great.
“You get what you pay for.”
Typical "W" Hotel. Dressed up as a Trendy hotel, but nothing special. Beats a cheap Marriott and if you get a good price definitely a good deal. Only complaint is that it got pretty loud at night and It didn't seem like the staff cared at all. If you are looking for a place to crash on the weekends and get away, a good bargain but dont go into it thinking its a luxury hotel.
“I plan to make another visit to National Harbor!”
I booked a room at the A Loft Hotel very last minute, and was surprised to discover National Harbor. Everyone was pleasant, from hotel staff to waiters at local restaurants. Walking near the water was a great way to enjoy the first signs of Spring. I loved the modern design of my room & wish I had more time to make use of the pool and other amenities. I certainly have it in mind for a return weekend trip!
“Really nice place”
Quite new. Excellent hotel with very good service. Great area with lots of restaurants within two blocks. Meetings were at a nearby major convention facility but this hotel had best rates. Only minor downside is not the most easily accessable from airport. Watch out for taxi drivers who may want to take you via the "senic" (i.e. more expensive) route.
