The Hotel was well signposted and so was easy to find. I was made to feel welcome and was processed at Reception cheerfully and swiftly. The breakfasts and the one Bar meal I had were entirely satisfactory and the service all i could have wished for. The option of the Swimming Pool was attractive though in the end I was too tired to use it as it happened.
Nice and easy check-in, and room was clean and quiet (despite being on the A12). We had a double bed, which wasn't the most comfortable to be honest, and a sofa bed which had exposed metal framework which my son spent the night either playing with or bashing his shins on. We only had one pillow each, and when we requested more we were told they didn't have any - the staff were apologetic about this, but it was still disappointing and not as comfortable as it could have been. There was also nowhere to hang bath towels.
Breakfast was disappointingly simple. 'Cooked' breakfast only included sausages, scrambled egg and beans (which in fairness is stated on their website). The sausages weren't particularly tasty, the egg was rubbery, and the absence of bacon was a particular let-down.
Convenient location for Colchester, and a good price, but if you've been to other hotels then you might be disappointed by the basic quality.

We really enjoyed our midweek break at this sports club/spa hotel.
The hotel with its facilities suited us perfectly.A comfy room located just a few yards from the golf course and the bar / restaurant. We made full use of the facilities and shall return soon.
The complex is situated on an old airfield in the grounds of its own golf course, being so quiet that it attracts
lots of different wild fowl and fauna. It was charming to walk the course and meet so many different types of bird life.
Picked pretty much at random for a birthday weekend, and it couldn't have been a better choice. We had a lovely room, properly dark at night, with a comfy bed, and decent shower. The staff were really friendly, there was a great roaring fire, some good beer, and the food was excellent. Plus the village had a good little second-hand bookshop and an interesting church which kept us amused on a lazy Saturday morning.
Stayed in a double room for a couple of days over the easter weekend. I booked the double as it said it had a private balcony, buts it's not "private" as you share with the two adjacent rooms, got quite a surprise when two people wondered by as I came out of the bathroom in my towel. The room was clean and tidy though looking very tired and a little shabby in places, could do with some new paint and fittings. Nice big shower but my husband managed to flood the floor as the tray is very shallow and easily overflows. Comfy bed and clean cotton linen. The pub itself is very nice with great staff and the breakfast was good and hearty!
