The Hotel was well signposted and so was easy to find. I was made to feel welcome and was processed at Reception cheerfully and swiftly. The breakfasts and the one Bar meal I had were entirely satisfactory and the service all i could have wished for. The option of the Swimming Pool was attractive though in the end I was too tired to use it as it happened.
Really enjoyed it and will be booking again.Staff were lovely and welcoming, didn't eat there, went to the White Hart just down the road, but the meals looked good, tho not alot of choice at the hotel. Beds clean and comfy, clean bathroom, lovely views, couldn't fault it.
Having stayed at the George before we knew we liked the Hotel for its character, comfort and convenience. I would recommend this hotel to a friend. Breakfast welcome could have been warmer, but good standard and good value.

Guest visiting Colchester should stay at the 3-star George Hotel, a historic building in the oldest city in England, where …More
Room was nice and clean and cosy.
But they didn't provide soap to shower with.
Main problem was the attitude of the staff member who welcomed us, she was the rudest person I've ever met, she was very unhelpful, not even directing us to our room just handing us a key and expecting us to know where to go. She also had a go at me for requesting to stay another night as she had 'just turned off the tills' she also was wearing what looked like pj's. Didn't look very welcoming, she didn't explain how to use the two different keys for the building, I felt straight away that she had a massive problem with myself and my guest. She also never provided the wifi password.
Also there was an issue of late check out, the reception/bar lady said that 9.30 was check out but on the website it says 10am, there is no option of late checkout either so I had to pay for another night there, just to stay later.
Also you can hear every single word people say in the bar as the walls are so thin.
The bed was really comfortable, the bathroom is all new and really good condition. And the room is set out nicely.
Colchester's claim to fame is that it is the oldest recorded Roman town in the British Isles. This city of 105,000 is 90 km northeast of London. Tourist attractions include the 11th-century Colchester Castle and the 19th-century Victorian Colchester Town Hall and the Jumbo Water Tower.
