Great Rooms, Views and Food

Posted 12-Dec-2014 on Hotels.com
amazing rooms with wonderful sea views... sumptuous food (although not a great gluten free selection) and nice spa facilities... Only negative is the wierd layout, although many may find that quirky. They need to improve their gluten free menu options though..!

Fantastic and friendly hotel

Posted 30-Oct-2014 on Hotels.com
We had a lovely night away here on a bank holiday weekend, the hotel was very busy but the staff were very efficent and the service was fantastic! My only fault wit the hotel would be the pool and spa area could do with a revamp but other than that id highly recommend! They had lots of nice touches drink on arrival, complimentary water, chocolates on pillow and a gift of homemade jam when we checked out! Food on the bar was very nice for dinner not your typical hotel food and breakfast was also lovely! An overall very relaxing night away, cant wait to go back

Disappointed

Posted 30-Sep-2014 on Hotels.com
Hotel was lovely, staff helpful and polite. However, the food was poor, we ordered room service and the 'hand cut fries' were burnt and appeared to be the dregs of the frier. The open sandwich in the bar was ok, salad undressed and dull. The drinks we ordered smelled of a chemical, it was replaced with the comment 'you should find that better'. Overall, beautiful setting, nice enough staff but five star?

Nice Hotel older staff could learn from younger

Posted 22-Sep-2014
Pros: Location, view, clean with lots of nice decor
Cons: Consistent treatment of everyone.
Location: Nice location if you want a relaxing weekend and a few minutes to town if you want something a bit of nightlife
Brilliant setting, impressive entrance to hotel, at check in the staff member kept answering the phone, talking to other staff and answering questions from other people behind us in the cue, the staff member never apologised once, I know phones have to be answered but all it takes is a simple do you mind if I take this call, we pretty much just got asked for our credit card and details, got told nothing about the hotel, didn't even tell us how to get to our room, at €200 a night you expect some sort of basic personal touch. Nice room but it had no air con, had to leave the balcony door open all weekend. First morning of breakfast we were shown to our table by a male member of staff and told nothing about breakfast, he walked around the breakfast area talking to everyone but us, the second morning of our stay at breakfast a female member of staff showed us to our table and was as helpful and as nice a person I've came across in any hotel anywhere in the world. When booking the hotel we called direct, told someone would call us back, no one ever did, called back to check my details were correct and told again that someone would call us back, never got a call back, booked via expedia, turns out my friend that was getting married had negotiated a discounted rate and we paid more than everyone else. Mixed bunch of staff, some of the older staff could definitely learn from younger staff, obviously older people are looked after better in this hotel, my money is just as good.

lovely hotel nestled between 2 fab beaches

Posted 23-Aug-2014
Pros: Views from high floor rooms Location Food Staff
Cons: Being really picky now but maybe a bit more dusting around the room
Location: We visited Kinsale via the Wild Atlantic scenic route which was very picturesque and Cobh is nearby with Titanic connection so very interesting!
Nice touches- books in room, turndown service with weather forecast for next day, borrow DVDs and kites from reception- helpful! Despite all rooms being "luxury doubles" some are more overlooked than others by guests arriving/departing the building. However, we asked to change rooms and the next day got an amazing one on a high floor with great beach view which truly made our holiday! The staff are lovely, the Residents Bar is a quiet retreat, the main restaurant great for breakfast (good seaviews) but pricey 5 course evening meals so we chose to eat in the atmospheric Dunes Bistro Bar (also within the hotel). You cannot reserve tables here but we got in most nights without much of a wait and the food is incredible as are the portion sizes! Both beaches either side of the hotel are to die for and walks are plenty. Clonakilty town is nice and only about 10mins away by car (tricky to walk as not always pavement) with other eating choices aplenty but we couldn't tear ourselves away from Dunes! Go try and enjoy- we will be BACK!!
