“Great location and quality”
Very close to Shannon Airport and a very cool hotel with all kinds of impressive oak woodwork. great place!
“Good for a night before Shannon Airport flight”
Beware the directions on their web site - they weren't accurate in Sept 08. (The map sketch was correct, but not the accompanying text.) The hotel is sprawling and the room numbering is a little unusual, but our room location was explained pretty clearly when we checked in. The elevator was not working when we were there. The room was clean and bright (after we figured out the room key has to be inserted in the reader by the door for the electricity to be activated). The bathroom looked newly refurbished (to a high standard) and was also very clean. Our room price included a full breakfast, which didn't start service until 7AM. The continental breakfast offered before then was acceptable - cereal, juice, and coffee or tea.
“Good stopover”
Easy to book. Checking in was very straight forward and all the staff were very pleasent
“Happy with the Oak Wood Arms”
Staff was pleasant and provided all required services promptly and efficiently. The bar area is large and consists of areas to talk, watch TV and be separate from the crowd if necessary. The promised cab driver was on time without any additional input on my part. Bathroom was clean and well maintained. Would stay here again.
“Nice hotel but it needs new beds!”
Oakwood Arms hotel has a lot of charm. When you walk in the door, the dark wood gives you a feel of Ireland. We were greeted by a very nice staff member at the front desk and promptly provided a room for our one night stay. We grabbed a light lunch (sandwich) at the bar (around 2:30) and our waitress was very nice. Then, we headed to the mall located one block away to buy a suitcase. The room and bathroom were very clean but the beds were terrible! All night I kept rolling into the middle. Needless to say I didn't get much sleep and I had an early morning taxi to catch to the airport that the front desk arranged for me the day before. When I went outside at 5:00 a.m. the taxi was not there. The front desk staff member never called for a reservation. Another staff member called for us and the taxi arrived just a few minutes later. Other than the beds and the taxi incident, the hotel was fine.
“Its OK”
Best way to describe the hotel is OK, I was in 208 and it was very noisy, the gym is limited, it’s cheap so you pay for what you get.
“Not impressed”
The staff was very nice but I had several problems with the hotel. First there wasn't an elevator to get up to my 2nd floor room. I had to lug my heavy bags up a considerable long staircase. The walls were paper thin and I could hear everything being said and done in the room next to me. I also heard the doors slam of every room on my floor. The bed mattress was extremely uncomfortable. It was VERY lumpy and old.
“Dark and dowdy”
Hotel was ridiculously old fashioned, dark and dowdy. I was expecting old world charm, but was greeted with oppressive gaudy horror. Even the grand restaurant was dreary on a rare sunny Irish mornings, and the breakfast staff wasn't exactly bright and cheery - or even remotely friendly for that matter. The room was a disappointment as well. We might as well have stayed at a cheap motel, or at the airport's Park Inn - that would have had the added bonus of saving us around 20EUR in taxi fares too, as there's no shuttle service. Definitely not worth the splurge if simply staying overnight on a layover.
“don't recommend”
run down, mold in tub, no heat when i arrived - had to have staff turn on radiators, creamers in room were sour, breakfast was second rate - poor selection and fruit not fresh. one staff member had a snippy attiude and was singularly unhelpful and condescending, although others were superb. don't bother staying in shannon- go to limerick or ennis and pay the extra fare to the airport!!!
