The first staff member we dealt was rather frosty faced and we felt we were just a bore and a chore for her, which was a pity. But after that first experience the other staff were friendly and helpful. If you want chocolates on your pillow and people to open the doors and lifts for you this is not the hotel for you. But if you want a nice hotel within walking distance of downtown, that is reasonably priced, clean and comfortable, this is the hotel for you.
I booked this hotel because our family was going to Fleet Week in SF. The hotels we choose are usually boutique, cozy, with charm. I wanted to book a fun hotel that was more focussed on what my boys really love, gaming. This hotel was boutique, cozy, and brought a different charm to our usual choice. The way the anime was displayed, and the influence throughout the hotel was done very tastefully. Clean, very polite hotel staff with excellent meal/dinner suggestions. Dinner suggestions at other hotels (we've stayed), seem to be a reflection of whatever is the trendy tourist spot at the moment, as opposed to where the staff truly likes to have a great meal themselves. A wonderful stay. We've already recommended this hotel to friends and family.
Checked in as a business traveler. Will come back as a guest with my wife. One of the quaintest, most romantic boutique hotels I've ever stayed in. You must enjoy aged charm because this place is old and creaky, but clean and comfy. Great location, safe and located close to enough to all the good stuff.
Owner was very friendly and gave us all sorts of tips, advice, maps.
Within walking distance of all main attractions.
Bus stop around the corner takes you to fishermans whalf for $2.25.
Also around the corner from cable car stop.
Free car parking.
Cable tv - including channel that shows english premier league.
Can take breakfast to bed.
Very powerful shower.
Very big bed.
Felt like in a safe neighbourhood.
Aircon very old. We couldnt get it to work properly. So slept with window open but extremely noisy outside with traffic and sirens.
Had a wonderful stay. Would stay here again and would recommend to anyone.
Staff were friendly. Breakfast was OK although a few more choices would have been nicer. It is quite close to tenderloin and the less savoury part of market street so you will see plenty of homeless people but I didn't feel unsafe. It is close to van ness and two BART stops so getting public transport up to the main sights is easy (you can buy a pass from city hall)
