The Inn is a budget motel in a very central location in downtown SF: my car was not needed at all to get around the city. The furnishings, cleanliness, and maintenance in my room and bathroom were of a quality expected in a much more expensive hotel. TV and internet reception was consistently good, and the heating in the room was much appreciated during my 4-day Jan-2014 stay. As other reviewers have remarked, there are indeed numerous homeless on Ellis and other streets around the hotel. But I found the street people harmless and in general good natured (one guy even took care of keeping a nighttime eye on my rented bicycle for me). The Inn manager's objective is to make his motel the best budget lodging in central SF.
Old style inexpensive San Francisco hotel with friendly staff, only down fall which is typical of all of San Francisco the parking is very expensive but not nearly what it would cost you some other places in the city.
Beds are the comfiest I've ever slept in!
Location is spot on for union square and fishermans wharf
Free wifi is a bonus as is the ice machine
Thanks for making our first visit to San Francisco a memorable one.
Nice quiet hotel. Friendly family staff. Let us check in early. I got a great deal on parking a block away, thanks to hotel staff for setting that up. We had a great time. I will be taking my wife there for our anniversary.

This San Francisco hotel is 4 blocks from a cable car stop, 6 blocks from Union Square, and 8 blocks from Chinatown’s …More
We arrived late, but that did not bother the staff and were made to feel welcome during our stay there. We were given a corner room on the top floor and the view was fantastic. The bed was high and made for interesting getting in and out of bed.
The elevator was quaint and slow, but as this is a small hotel it didn't really bother us.
The staff were friendly and were prompt at booking taxis us when we needed one.
There are plenty of places to eat around Van Ness (2 blocks away), and it was via this road that we walked to Pier 39 most days to begin our days. This was an easy 20 minute walk down hill (out of the hotel turn left, then left onto Van Ness straight to the waterfront).
Unfortunately, we did not sample any of the food at the hotel so we cannot comment.
