We stayed at the Hotel Bacco for three nights to chill out after four manic days running around Rome being tourists and seeing the sights. We could not have made a better choice!
The hotel is set in a glorious spot, high in the hills of the Amalfi coast with the most spectacular views over the sea and surrounding countryside. There is ample room to sit outside on the terraces including a delightful patio area underneath part of the hotel's own vineyard.
The rooms are spacious, well equipped and are cleaned every day to a high standard. If I had to criticize anything (and I am being VERY picky here), there was a slight smell in the bathroom. That said, give the amount of rain that fell in fairly short periods of time while we were there, the drainage system can well be forgiven for struggling to cope a little!
The real winner here is the service though. Without exception, every member of staff was polite, helpful and not just willing, but genuinely keen to share any information that they felt would make our stay enjoyable. The restaurant is excellent (especially if you like fish / seafood), and once I had notified them of my dietary requirement (I am coeliac), I did not have to mention it again for the entire duration of our stay and was presented with more gluten-free stuff than I could possibly eat! (Try the 'home brew' red wine, I would have brought a case home if i'd had the luggage space!)

A very simple B&B which we could not fault.
Its a perfect half-way to explore the whole area from Sorrento to Salerno, and perfectly situated between Amalfi to the east and Positano to the west. Irma, our 'landlady' could not have been more helpful. Breakfasts were a delight on the terrace every morning (sure, we had the right weather for it), home made pastries and marmalades were the highlight. Our room was clean and spacious, with ensuite and roof terrace with stunning view over the ocean - great if you want private sunbathing. But there is so much to see in the coastal towns nearby there was little time to sunbathe, and Irma was so helpful with directions, best places, where to get the great value all-day bus tickets, etc.
Its VERY steep in the whole area, dont be put off by the difficulty of manoevring a car, its the same anywhere here!

We selected this hotel more or less at random as a base for a week in the Amalfi region. The hotel is located in a small hill village which made a good contrast to the busy tourist centres on the coast. The village was friendly, easy to walk to from the hotel and had useful basic shops and some good-value restaurants.

Casa Pendola is set in Agerola in the hills above Amalfi. We were there for a two week family holiday and it proved just perfect. We had a spacious room with a balcony and lovely view over the valley and Bay of Salerno. An excellent breakfast was provided (omelette, cold meat and cheese, homemade cakes etc) and the owners and staff (and their cats) couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly.
It is a 15 minute walk (or 5 minute drive) from the village up narrow lanes, so a bit difficult to find first time in spite of some signposts in the village. There is a bus service from the village but realistically you need a car to stay here. With a car it is the perfect base if you both want to see both the Amalfi Coast and the sites around Naples, being about 30 minutes down a twisty but incredibly scenic road to the former or, in the other direction, about 50 minutes to Naples. Sorrento (and Capri) are also within easy reach. The village has several restaurants, which were a lot cheaper than those on the coast, and although there were tourists about the village feels much more 'real' Italy than the very touristy towns on the coast.
I really couldn't recommend Casa Pendola too highly.

The owners are nice people and do a great job. You got to be aware that this is a basic accommodation with no fancy room features. When being there off season, it can be a bit chilli as their is no heating in the bathroom and heating is turned off at day time. You always got to be aware of the fact that the rates are at the lower end of what you are paying in this region and therefore this place constitutes a fair value..
