“Hope It's Still There”

Cute little boutique hotel with helpful staff. We added on an extra day and were put in a very tiny room the first day, then moved to a larger room for the next two nights. Otherwise would have rated a 5. Hotel is quite old I believe but the owner has made a real effort to provide lounge/reading areas and a Friday wine tasting so guests could mingle. Wonderful location--easy walking to restaurants and cathedral square. Just hope the hotel is still standing after the earthquake which occurred two days after we left.

“Go Beyond the Box in Christchurch!”

OFF THE SQUARE is a wonderful boutique hotel, where no two rooms are the same but every stay is guaranteed to be wonderful! We were greeted warmly at check-in not only by the staff, but also by the owner/designer as well. The lobby and communal areas are decked out in a variety of amazing art pieces, with every convenience either in the room or at a nearby station. Our room was quite chic and functional, with a lovely view of the atrium and streetcar below and amazingly convenient access to Cathedral Square and the heart of the city. We've decided that ALL of our future guests will stay here when they visit us in Christchurch, and can't say enough about our visit.

This is a great place to stay in central Christchurch. Lots of sights to see and places to visit in easy walking distance of the hotel. A change from the normal hotel but would highly recommend to others.

“Lovely Hotel!!!!”

Located just a block from Cathedral Square, it is a quaint, beautifully unique hotel. Decorated with local artwork, the decor is marvelous. Just outside the front door is the trolley stop available for tours around Christchurch and to the gondola ride. there is plenty of shopping to be done as well. The hotel is within walking distance of several restaurants. We took a short walk to the art museum (~15min). We loved our hotel room. It is a good size with each room having specific artwork. The bathroom and shower were excellent with good water pressure and clean. There is a TV and desk in the room for use as well as a small fridge. If you do not have a laptop, there is a computer with free internet use in a lounge located above the main entrance. There is also a terrace off the lounge with an outdoor eating. Very quaint and beautiful hotel with friendly staff. I wished we could have stayed longer and I would definitely book a room there again.

“Great hotel in a terrifc location”

Excellent hotel! It was a treat to view the art collection. Room was comfortable. Only negative was that it was a bit noisy. In the middle of the night, throughout the weekend, partiers enjoying Christchurch bars made their loud voices heard. And you need to overlook the sort of seedy "massage" business located a few doors down.

“Excellent base for Christchurch; a treat for people who appreciate fine art”

The hotel is comfortable and well appointed. Fresh fruit and supplies of tea and real coffee were always available. Free internet, the fastest we found in the south island. Some people have reported that the rooms are small but we found them perfectly satisfactory. The staff were very helpful and attentive, and the owner/founder of the hotel took the trouble to introduce himself and ensure we were enjoying our stay. The location is ideal for exploring Christchurch and using the tourist tram system which runs through the hotel (no noise at night, though, as it closes down in the evening). Abundance of good restaurants and cafes locally. Plenty of art on display in the hotel, especially some fabulous fine art photographs by Alan Brydon. Will definitely stay in this hotel when I next visit Christchurch - it's a real treat.

great location, heart of ChristChurch. Small, but efficent rooms. No breakfast available, but cafe's nearby. Nicely designed, boarding botique. can catch a bus from the airport for $7 to nearby the hotel, or shuttles are avialable from city centre to airport for $5 per person.

Off the Square was very conviently located and a very cute boutique hotel. While the room was on the small side it, and the hotel, had character. Would definitely stay there again.
