“I stay on Cashel”

Cooking smells from other Asian guests was very pervasive one night when the temperature was about 35 C and doors onto passage way were left open.

“Great Value & Great Location!!!”

We arrived late on Jan 4th to the iStay for one week and had no troubles at all. It was located right downtown, in a perfect location. Lots of shops, restaurants, and sight-seeing within walking distance. We got a deal through Expedia, which is what we were looking for. Our package did not include room service each day. It was available at an extra charge if you wanted it, as were many other items such as face cloths, extra bath towels, hand towels, shampoo/conditioner, etc. We had brought all that stuff ourself, so we didn't mind not having it, but if you are someone who does require this type of stuff be sure to book the appropriate package, otherwise you will be paying for a lot of extras. Staff was always friendly and helpful, and the hotel is really clean and well kept. There was no air conditioning in our room, so we just made sure to keep the blinds pulled to keep the heat to a minimum. Overall we enjoyed our stay :)

“Sufficient”

Reasonably helpful staff, very small and bare-bones room. Dorm-like appearance, size, and setting. Comfortable enough though replete with the dreaded "strangers' hairs in the bathroom". Marginal quality perhaps to have been expected for the price. Building entrance somewhat hidden / unmarked at sidewalk - nowhere at all to stop car for unloading - parking not easily available. Would stay again if necessary, but would rather seek other options.

“Perfect start for your South Island trip”

Arrived late at night due to a late flight from Australia. Reception were very organised and had our key waiting. Room was nice and ok size with a kitchenette, balcony, desk and king size bed. We stayed for 4 nights and were pretty impressed. Especially as we saved money by being able to cook at the hotel. It is the perfect location for seeing Christchurch. The only downside would be the fact that there was no room service or re-fill of tea/coffee etc. But this is why it is so cheap to stay there. You can pay an extra fee if you feel the need to have someone make the bed for you!! Upon departure we were able to leave our luggage in a locked area whilst we picked up the hire car. Great stuff.

“Oaks On Casel - Great value for a short Stay”

I would highly recommend this hotel for a short stay. The rooms are smallish but when you are out and about for most of the day, it doesn’t really matter. The Hotel is in a great location and close to all the major sights and amenities. Other reviewers have complained about the noise from the nearby nightclubs. I didn’t have an issue in terms of the noise factor but I certainly noticed and heard the clubbers when waiting for the Shuttle bus at 7am on a Sunday morning. The front desk staff were excellent. My only grip were the security cards to the rooms. Each time it took me at least 5 attempts to get the room door open. When I mentioned it to the front desk when checking out, the person mentioned this has been an on-going issue

“Good value if you need a central location.”

Service at this hotel was decent, mostly since they are so used to people complaining about the rooms that they will grant any request within reason. It took us 4 times to get our room key card activated properly. The room was perfect for our needs, but 2 of the lights were missing bulbs and the bed practically touched the floor when you lied on it. The hotel was packed the weekend we stayed so we didn't bother to complain about the lights or the bed. The wanted $25 a day to park the car, but there was street parking available for free so that's what we used. Internet was $15 per day for 500mb. One of the days the server went out for several hours so we were not charged for the whole day. I thought that was nice. Our room (executive suite) had a patio which we shared with the room next door. The patio was definitely a plus. With the deal we got on expedia I was very happy with our stay. I would have been very upset if we had paid full price. Overall we genuinely enjoyed our stay and were happy.

“frustrating”

with all the security swipe/ proximity cards we had nothing but trouble, being stuck in the lift 2 times, not getting to our floor, swipe access to our room, having to be let in and taken up in the elevator by staff. this continued the whole weekend. reprogramming our access did not help and the staff were not that helpful or sympathetic to our situation. I guess with so many partyers staying they assumed it was our fault. not great.

“Don choosee this hotel.”

I stayed this hotel 5 nights. For two days they didn't clean the room and change towel either. I request room cleaning and changing towels and they said "tomorrow morning, they'll clean the room and change towels." But anything was changed. I request again and I heard that cleaning room service is 25$ and only changing towel is impossible. If I want to change towels, I should pay 25$. This hotel is nearby the midtown area, location is good, however, at weekends very nosiy until morning due to drunken guys & women. Internet service is 15$ per day and if you get more 500Mbyte, you should pay excess charge.

“Excellent - Oaks on Cashel”

Stayed at these apartments for a few nights in October. They were clean, modern and in a very central location. Only a few minutes walk to the centre of Christchurch and all the attractions. Highly reccomended.
