The approach to the Manor House Hotel is astounding - and it just gets better. The food has a Michelin star, and it shows. The staff are delightful, the wine list excellent and nothing is too much trouble. It is difficult to raise any problems. I suppose the car park could have less trees over it. However, Local Government might object as Castle Combe is a complete architectural gem and the car park is next to a medieval church. The main drawback is, naturally, the price. You will need very deep pockets all the time. However, it is my experience that you get what you pay for and if you can't 'cut the mustard' go to a lesser place.
Wonderful hotel, with very friendly and helpful staff who provide first class service. Didn't know what to expect, as these kind of hotels can often be pretentious and stuffy. Not here! Made us feel very welcome. Free room upgrade to a deluxe room - which was fantastic and a lovely surprise. Great food and service in the Brasserie. The walled gardens (especially near the brasserie) are quite beautiful and a credit to the gardening team. Overall a very relaxing, quiet stay in a friendly and welcoming luxury hotel. Went for a bike ride(on the free hotel bikes) around the extensive hotel grounds, great fun and a great way of exploring the 500(?) acres! Reassuringly expensive, and worth the money. Superb.
I don't know why all the 1-star reviews; I had an utterly pleasant experience at the Bear Hotel! I will confirm the presence of the bar previously complained about - it is there, and it draws a crowd, but it wasn't so loud that I noticed from the room. Paul and Cheryl were excellent hosts (appreciate you two putting out some cereal for me when I left WELL before the scheduled breakfast hours), the room charming, comfy, and clean. Did not notice any faults in the rest of the facilities as previously noted by other reviewers. Location of the hotel is a nice bonus too, right at the head of the main street, so access to anything and everything is easy as pie.
Short and sweet, the hotel is aged, but is full of the associated charm that comes with such a place. And I'd rather stay at a place like the Bear where the staff is so personable as opposed to a "Ritz" where the desk doesn't remember my name.
Stayed one night - staff were friendly and hospitable. Relaxed atmosphere, great food, pub with busy but in a nice way. Nice room, yummy breakfast and lovely village. would definitely recommend and stay here again. Charming!

Recent, purpose built, avenue of rooms provide a very high standard of accommodation. This is then complemented by a characterful pub with a superb menu and brilliant cooking, both for breakfast and for main meals. Serving staff were friendly and attentive and Mike the receptionist and maitre d' looked after us extremely well. We were delighted by our stay.

Where to start?! very pleased with my stay here - hotel cleanliness evident from the moment you arrive - bar and rooms well furnished and especially fell in love with the bathroom! i would love that at home! staff really pleasant and frendly, the breakfast really good, plenty of parking space.. i could go on.. a great find and i recommend to everybody.. well.. not everyone! somethings are best kept a secret!
It was marvellous to stay at the hotel. We had dinner the evening of our stay in the restaurant and the food was delicious and although pricey, the portion sizes we generous. Our room was upgraded and the night was peaceful. Breakfast in the morning was again wonderful and we would definitely recommend this hotel to couples wanting to celebrate a special occasion. Although the concierge apologised, the condition of the hotel was not 'superb' because they were refurbishing the furnishings.
