Lovely renovated hotel in a central location.

Posted 17-Aug-2014
Cons: Restaurant breakfast service-TERRIBLE COFFEE-Weak and tasteless. Who ever makes the coffee needs to like coffee. Get your coffee somewhere else!
Really nicely renovated 1920's hotel. Staff service was excellent. Room Comfort was excellent. My family was able to get a two corner rooms with an adjoining alcove that we used like a suite. This was a great set up. However the elevators are small and slow - It's a historic building so this can't really be changed. So plan to wait a bit for an elevator especially during check out. I would definitely stay there again.

The Whitehall is great!

Posted 17-Aug-2014
Cons: I asked for a King bed and we got a Queen bed. Next time I will insist.
Location: You can't get any closer to Michigan Ave and Rush Street! Just a couple of blocks from Oak Street Beach!
I love the Whitehall Hotel! The location is perfect and the hotel staff is SO nice! We will go back to Chicago and we will stay at The Whitehall!

Mold in the tub caulk

Posted 16-Aug-2014
Pros: Location, pizza, staff
Cons: See above
Location: Fantastic location. Close to lake, restaurants and shopping
The hotel has spent a lot on renovations, so the bathtub should parallel the renovations. Further, THERE ARE NO GRAB BARS IN THE TUB/SHOWER AREAS. Why?

Best beds ever!!

Posted 13-Aug-2014
Pros: The beds
Cons: Coffee machines in the rooms would be ideal. And a place in the hotel to get some bottled water etc. ice machines
Most comfortable beds ever. First time in Chicago and this hotel was in a prime area. Beautiful decor and historical ambiance. Would definitely stay here again.

Posted 11-Aug-2014
Pros: Convenience in location to the city and the upgrade surprise
Cons: better coffee served in the morning, however it was free
Location: Close to shopping, restaurants and attractions
What a surprise, when we checked in they upgraded to a suite. Loved the accommodations!

Misleading, old, small, and underwhelming

Posted 10-Aug-2014
The large rooms with beautiful views are misleading. From the pictures it seems like all the rooms are like that but only the large suites are. We ended up being placed in a cramped room that was multitudes more underwhelming than other hotel rooms we could have booked for the same price. In addition I called in three times to request a room on a higher floor but in the end they didnt even see my request and we got stuck on the fourth floor. Take your money to another hotel.

Pros and cons

Posted 07-Aug-2014
Pros: Location, architecture.
Cons: Customer service, amenities.
Location: Lots close by. Good acces to waterfront and shopping. A 20 minute direct route to wicker park on a bike.
Great location, close to the beach, just outside the commercial business of the mag mile and downtown. The building itself was gorgeous. Staff was less than swift. Not well informed. Every little thing cost extra - phone calls, printing, etc. wifi was free but slow, high speed cost extra. Good spot for a night or two but if you're looking for excellent service and pampering definitely go elsewhere.

Great location!

Loved the location and friendly staff. Comfortable and clean rooms. We would stay at The Whithall hotel again. Would be beneficial to have a concierge on duty.

Great hotel value in Chicago.

Posted 02-Aug-2014
Pros: Classy, affordable place to stay in expensive Chicago.
Cons: Offer a 6:30 am "brown bag" breakfast service to those who must leave before the restaurant opened.
Location: Should be on their website. It's located on city bus routes so can easily access the Navy Pier, Symphony center, Art Museum with a bus pass.
I'm a professional woman traveling alone to attend a convention at the McCormick center in Chicago. This wonderful gem was is a block away from the John Handcock tower and within walking distance from the subway and convention shuttle stops. The rate was much lower than the group rates offered by other hotels but had the same standards and amenities as the expensive places. It has a classic, European charm, is quiet and comfortable. I was more than pleased with the staff, room and the services. I would definitely stay there again.

Nice and comfortable

Posted 31-Jul-2014
Pros: Location and comforts.
Cons: Hot water tank.
Location: Shopping on Michigan Ave., within walking distance to the beach and the river.
Booked to stay the WhiteHall the July 26 to the 29, got there were told that they over sold but the sent my to the Ritz-Carleton for the night of the 26, a very nice touch to upgrade my accommodation. Stay the Whitehall the 27 to the 29. This historical hotel is nice and comfortable, with many modern upgrade while respecting the historical references. They do need to upgrade their hot water tank though, had a cold shower around the pre-dinner time (5:30ish) due to the volume of use. Over my stay was good, it is nicely located. I would stay there again.
