Nice hotel and great staff!

Posted 20-Nov-2014
Pros: Location and Staff
Cons: Add vending machines
Location: John Hancock building, lake Michigan and tons of shopping
We spent two nights at the Knickerbocker. The room was clean and well maintained. The bed was also comfortable. The hotel has a good location and the staff is great. Two complaints: 1) No vending machines in hotel. 2) One of the three elevators was out of order which made for long waits.

Nice hotel - Great location

Posted 19-Nov-2014
I didn't realise when I booked this how close to the mag mile I was literally on my doorstep. The hotel has history which is fab to see but the interior has been updated. All the staff I met were exceptional and knowledgeable and I'll definately be coming back to this hotel when time permits. My only niggle and it's the same for all hotels that wifi isn't included in the rate, we live in a very technological society where being able to get online is crucial I just wish hotels would acknowledge that. Anyway, fabulous service thank you Knickebocker!'

Wonderful hotel with helpful staff & great locatio

Posted 19-Nov-2014
Pros: The location was perfect - super close to restaurants, shopping and attractions. What set it apart was the staff. They were very helpful and friendly
Location: We were right off of Michigan Ave so this put us close to shopping. We were in walking distance to Oak St Beach and other attractions.
I was in Chicago for an extended weekend. The hotel was easy to find and located right off of Michigan Ave. Walking distance to many great restaurants, shopping and attractions. The hotel staff was amazing! Very welcoming, helpful and prompt in service. Our room was small (as to be expected) but very nice and clean. I will be staying here again!!

Great historic hotel in fantastic area of Chicago

Great historic hotel in a fantastic area of Chicago. Valet parking is expensive, but it is Chicago ... Great experience. The area has a bunch of great restaurants, close to Water Tower Place, and the north end of Chicago.

Great Hotel, Great Location

Posted 18-Nov-2014
Pros: Location, staff, room size and cleanliness, and the price we paid seemed like a good value.
Cons: Elevators were small, and only 2 of the 3 were working, so there was a small wait at times. And shower pressure. Other than that, all was good.
Location: Shopping very nearby (Magnificent Mile). Short walk to variety of food and bars. John Hancock tower.
Went down to Chicago for a guys trip to seem some sports (Notre Dame football, Bears game and Blackhawks game). We didn't spend a lot of time at the hotel as there is too much to see and do in Chicago, but this was a great base for us to explore. It was about a 40 minute cab ride to the airport (we beat rush hour), but took us a little over an hour with traffic when we arrived. The location for this hotel is great, its very clean and the staff we had were fantastic. If you are into shopping, you are about a 4 minute walk to the heart of the Magnificent Mile. You are walking distance to a variety of restaurants and pubs, and a short cab ride to all the rest. The John Hancock tower is about a block away. The rooms were well sized and very clean. The shower pressure was a little underwhelming, but by no means a deterrent from staying there. The gym area was small but well appointed with machines and some free weights. The lounge was nice and relaxed, and if you are there try the pork sliders...they were amazing - highly recommend them! (The only thing to avoid would be making any long distance phone calls from the hotel room phone - a 10 minute conversation cost about $50 which was surprising, but probably normal for any hotel). Overall, very happy we picked this place - would stay there again in a hearbeat.

Great location, not so comfortable

Posted 16-Nov-2014
The location and cleanliness were perfect, however, we were surprised by how uncomfortable we were there. First, we could hear everything our neighbors were up to. Every morning we were when up at 7 am because our neighbors were up and we could hear their entire conversations from our bed. Also the honking of taxis on the street. Try to get s room that's not streetside. It is an old building so maybe that's why the walls are so thin, but nonetheless it makes for an uncomfortable stay when you can't sleep. We are not picky travellers but the following things surprisingly also made our stay uncomfortable: -hard/crunchy bed sheets -hard/rough towels -toilet that was so high your feet don't touch the floor lol (that was just weird).

Overbook Fail Fiasco!

Posted 15-Nov-2014
Pros: Hard to say, they didn't let us past the lobby.
Cons: That they respect Expedia bookings like any other, and actually reserve us a room.
After paying for parking across the street and lugging our stuff into the lobby, they very gradually broke the news to us that we had no room for us even though they had our Expedia booking in their computer. They offered no explanation other than "sorry, these things happen". After about an hour in their lobby, they told us they were going to "pay for" our room at another hotel down the block (turns out they kept our Expedia payment money for themselves). It was freezing cold and windy, but they left us on our own as to how to get all of our luggage to the other hotel about a block away.
