“a historic gem”
We got the last available hotel room close to our destination. We felt like we hit the jackpot. We loved the authentic decor that reflected turn-of-the-century design. It was refreshing to see that places like this still exist at reasonable prices. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Chicago.
“Good experience, but......”
The only thing I didn't care for is sharing a bathroom with the rest of the floor. As a woman traveling alone, I was not comfortable with that arrangement at all. Everything else was wonderful and very pleasant, and very courteous service.
“Stay at Margarita Inn”
I stayed one night at this hotel. it was surprisingly nice hotel for the price. Relatively small and old, but beautifully decorated in European style, and has a elegant italian restaurant in it. Just need to be careful that some of the rooms do not have bathrooms in them and need to use a shared one. But overall, I was very satisfied.
“Evanston's best kept secret”
This hotel is a wonderful little gem in the heart of Evanston. It's definitely a classic, European style hotel modeled after old world charm and gives a very warm feeling. The rooms are well kept and the building is gorgeous. The staff are very friendly. The only downside is the elevator is a little hard to get into and out of because of its narrow doorway.
“Great place to stay”
I felt very good with the attitude of the people that work in the hotel. If you can accept the shared bathroom there shouldn't be any reason why you would not like this hotel. It has personality. I can see a couple of things that they could fix but I definitely recommend it.
“FellowTraveler”
Hotel is a good break from the cookie cutter chain hotels. Sitting room with wood fireplace and library are nice.
“Taste of the Old World”
I stayed here for the first time on Sept 4th, 1999 staying for a week before I got my first US apartment. So as I plan to leave the country 12 years later, I thought I would take my wife on a walk down memory lane. I was not disappointed! The Margarita is aged, and has few rooms with en-suite bathrooms, but the staff are super-friendly and the dining room exquisiste, as is the restaurant. The rooms are also sweet, old style and yet not lacking in anything. Recommended highly, especially as it is right in the centre of Evanston, so easy access to Chicago and a direct bus to the airport right there.
“Historic Stay”
Pro: Classic European building, close proximity to NWU and the Evanston community, 20 miles north of Chicago but close to metro station Con: Public bathroom and lack of modern amenities (i.e. Wi-Fi), but acceptable room condition and rate
“Not impressed”
There was hair in the sinks in the bathrooms. I found spiders in the tub. The space in the bedroom was small-- very tight conditions. I think the price was too expensive for the type of hotel. For the same price, I could have gotten a private room, free parking, private bath.
“awesome and different”
Hotel was great. Different and with history. it's excellent and it has character. the breakfast was great and free. Close to everything and nice restaurants. If you want a different and good experience...
