Very nice place to stay! The staff was above and beyond great. We were able to check in a bit earlier and that was wonderful. It was large, very clean. The bathroom was exceptional. Large, double sinks and a spacious rain shower!
I half expected to see Papa Hemmingway coming up the stairs at the Write Inn. The whole hotel is a gem right out of the early 20th century. I loved the way the windows opened into the night air.
We didn't eat in the restauraut, but it looked very interesting. We walked to a couple of equally wonderful breakfast places nearby.
If you like fast elevators, huge rooms and a free breakfast served on syrofoam, don't stay here. But if you want charm with an historic twist, I recommend this lovely little hotel.
Second year we stayed here for a girl's Christmas shopping trip. The front desk staff & concierge were very pleasant & helpful. They kept our bags & purchases for us till time to catch our train home. Great location within walking distance to Michigan Ave. & Navy Pier & Howl at the Moon. Great food at hotel restaurant . Very nice affordable rooms.
We have stayed at Hampton Inn & Suites (Downtown) several times. It is a convenient location . . . probably 25-30 good restaurants within walking distance (6 blocks), Red Line underground nearby, bus to Navy Pier close, bridge across Chicago River about 3 blocks south . . . and our daughter has even been able to find street parking when she has come to pick us up. The hotel has a small, off-street, covered semi-circle for taxis or private cars to pull into for loading and unloading. Also valet parking, but we've never used it. The one drawback is that a Fire Station is across the street, and it seems to get 3-4 calls a night. Some rooms are more susceptible to this than others. Otherwise, rooms are comfortable and clean; breakfast has a pleasant range of options; coffee, tea, and hot chocolate is always available. Our room did not have microwave/refrigerator, but I think some do. For this trip, it didn't matter, but when it does . . . we ask.
