Pros: Ambiance
Cons: foot rests in the lobby
Location: very central and walking distance to all major attractions
Very "old world" in elegance. Have stayed here before and love it!

Considering the room condition,I think this hotel quite expensive. but this hotel still reliable to stay. It is safe and easy acces to everwhere (e.g: direct train to airport)

Small, comfortable rooms in a hotel with a beautiful lobby and a rich history. And it's conveniently located in downtown Chicago.

Great location...old building.

Posted 24-Nov-2014
Pros: Price, location, employees are friendly
Cons: re-grouting the bathroom, temperature controls, televisions are old.
Location: Very close to everything! Quick cab ride to anything that is out of walking distance, very nice views of downtown & the lake.
I chose this hotel because it was half the price of a nearby hotel in which I was attending a conference. This hotel is an older building and it seems like the rooms haven't been updated in awhile...but that's likely why these rooms are more affordable. There was plenty of room & free wifi is always good! I've definitely paid more for less.

Okay at reasonable price (for downtown Chicago)

Posted 24-Nov-2014
The hotel is nicely located across from Grant Park and Close to the art museum. Staff was friendly enough. I did get frustrated one morning when the maid service repeatedly knocked on the door to see if they could clean the room when I had told them how long to wait the first time. My biggest complaint was the state of the hotel. It is clearly in need of repair and renovation. In addition, the mattress was rock hard. My biggest complaint was the WiFi. It was intermittent at best and nonexistent at times. If the hotel is going to provide Internet service, it should at least be usable. Despite these issues, the hotel was a okay value for the price considering the costs of nearby hotels.

Historic and comfortable, but...

Posted 24-Nov-2014
Pros: Cost, atmosphere
Cons: Get rid of the Chicago city transit rail? I know -- not likely.
Location: Within walking distance of some of the coolest museums in the nation.
It's a great place if you're into retro architecture and such. My one complaint was -- as my room was on the side facing the city rail tracks -- I didn't sleep very well. As for a room one of the street sides, and you'll love the vibe of the place.

the room is uncomfortable

Posted 24-Nov-2014
Pros: I liked the nice view.
Cons: It might be helpful to post the description that the room does not have a controller of temperature, and that there is no ventilation system.
Location: The location is good to tour several sites.
I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. The room has a grand view at night and during the day. However, my room did not have a temperature control, nor ventilation in the rest room. Since I was a little cold, a staff brought a portable heater. After I used the rest room, the bad smell did not leave for a long time because of no ventilation system. At the forth night, there were two lady bugs, one of which was on my bed cover.

During I and my wife's stay, the room was terribly cold. And bed making was not done one day.

Old Hotel Charm

Posted 22-Nov-2014
We stayed here because of its reputation as "haunted", and the location was excellent. The older building and style is charming. The rooms could use a bit of updating and refurbishing, however I would hate to see it loose the old style of the hotel. The staff is excellent and very kind.
