july 2014

Pros: the front desk staff, location, and free storage of our luggage after check out
Cons: the housekeeping staff should not ASK if we want the room cleaned, should do it way earlier and not act put out when we want the room cleaned.
Location: millenium park, art gallery, trolley tours, dining, breakfast, grant park, shopping, subways
A great location but weird housekeeping rules. Our room wasn't cleaned until 5 or 6 in the evening and one evening the housekeeper said she might not have time to get to it. She did, but left us with no towels. She seemed really put out that we wanted our room clean EVERY day.. Otherwise, a great place. It is aging but wonderfully located, has the ambiance of a former grand hotel and not even one bit haunted.

Great Location

Posted 24-Jul-2014
Pros: Location and the concierge
Location: Right across from Grant Park and a block down from the Art Institute, Millennium Park and very accessible to city transport.
The hotel was perfectly located and was okay in general. It felt outdated and light on amenities for the price

Downtown Chicago hotel--Conress

Old decor needs updating. Exercise equipment all broken. A little upkeep would make this hotel a nice place to stay. Good location

Great location!

In town for half marathon, this hotel was in a perfect location for the race, as well as visiting Millennium Park, Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, Willis Tower, etc. Only complaint is that the bathroom was small.

Needs a makeover

Posted 23-Jul-2014
Pros: The main floor is nice and the room was quiet.
Cons: It's rundown.
Location: Location is awesome.
Hallways and rooms need a complete overhaul. Old furniture can be nice if it doesn't look like it was bought at a garage sale for $2.

It's not bad, but old. You'll get what you pay for.

Great location, terrible service

Posted 22-Jul-2014
Pros: We loved the views of Grant Park and the skyline from our king room.
Cons: Management and staff need to be replaced or retrained in customer service.
Location: The hotel is across from Grant Park and within reasonable walking distance (or a short cab ride) of the Field Museum, Art Institute and downtown.
We chose the hotel for its central location on Michigan Avenue at Congress Plaza in Grant Park. The facilities are old and are showing their age, including peeling paint and rusty door hinges. We arrived at 4 p.m. and were told our room wasn't ready and to come back in 45 minutes to an hour. When we did, the desk clerk got on the phone and argued with someone about whether the room was ready before giving us a key. Apprehensive, we tried it and found the room to be clean, with an excellent view of Grant Park and the downtown skyline. The coffee shop service was the worst I've ever seen. We were in a long breakfast lineup that didn't move, while at least four staff members hovered at the front desk without acknowledging anyone or advising how long we would have to wait. Most people eventually gave up and drifted away. Others who were seated and given menus also walked out when no one took their orders. We stuck it out and after ordering coffee three times, were rewarded with a hearty meal and were given a 10 per cent discount off our bill for the long wait. We tried to order drinks in the bar once but weren't as patient and walked out after waiting to be served for 15 or 20 minutes. There are better hotels in the area for the price we paid.

Great customer service

Posted 22-Jul-2014
FRANCINE, at the check in counter, changed me to her favorite room because I was dissatisfied with the original corridor view. She changed it without any hassle... The housekeeping staff was also very friendly. They all greeted me with a smile and a Hello.

Computers kept going down, which is foregivable, but the folks at the registration desk were less than apologetic and very cold and dismissive of those who had to stand and wait for 30 minutes or more each time. If not for the location they would quickly chase away customers. The parking garage staff were not much better.

Loved this charming hotel. Two nights with great views. Helpful staff including parking experience. Very quiet. Would stay another time
