Two nights, no sleep

Posted 17-Apr-2015
Pros: Great location. Beautiful old hotel.
Cons: No AC/heat? 60+ degrees, sunny south windows. 34 at night. A fan that doesn't work, and windows that must be opened closed by maintenance. Problem!
Location: Right on Michigan Avenue, across from Grant Park. Walk to Aquarium, shopping, theaters, Lou Malnati's.
We were on the sixth floor facing south, so sun shining on the window all day. The fan on the air unit did not do anything, and there was no temperature control. We woke several times to change sweat-drenched pillows. The next morning, I asked the front desk to have someone check the unit. Someone came while we were out and opened the windows a few inches. We decided to leave them up while we went out for the evening. When we got in around midnight, I found we could not close the windows ourselves. I did not want to call for maintenance, so we stuffed pillows and a comforter in the open windows. We were freezing all night. My fault, for not wanting to get up and dressed to wait for someone, but why is the solution to a fan that doesn't work to open windows that won't close? Add a hard mattress and extra firm pillows, and we paid a lot of money for two sleepless nights.

Convenient hotel, nice location

Posted 15-Apr-2015
Pros: location and comfortable rooms
Cons: rooms need updating
Location: very near to public transportation and Grant Park. Lots of opportunities for sightseeing, eating and shopping
Although the hotel needs some updating, we had a very pleasant experience. Hotel staff was always friendly and helpful. The room was a nice size and comfortable. Rooms need some updating, but they have a good charm and character.

Nice hotel but...

Posted 07-Apr-2015
We were 4 in a room, so yes it was extremely cozy, but we were okay with that! The room walls are quite thin and yes you can hear people through them. the rooms were okay, stained carpet. We had a good view from the window. The bathroom didn't have an exhaust fan, it is very uncomfortable to use a single restroom with no fan. Apparently the hotel has a lot of history, so it was nice to stay there, but it could definitely use a few improvements.

Nothing good

Poor attention never ask about need. The front desk doesn't t have any solutions for the problem with cold water and they have some issues about security. And the bar/room service was closed by twelve and you couldn't get any food.

Good Spot and Cool Hotel, But Long in the Tooth

Posted 05-Apr-2015
Cons: Ice machine was broken, but room service refused to bring us ice without charging, per policy...
Nice staff, let us check out late with a sick child.
