Historic Hotel

Posted 30-Sep-2014
Pros: Bar & location
Cons: Bathrooms, carpets, wallpaper, paint trim.
Location: Soldier Field - Chicago Bears football game, 20 min walk. The Navy Pier, 30 min walk.
After reading reviews about this hotel being haunted I was extremely nervous to stay here. I requested an odd numbered floor & an odd numbered room as even numbered rooms & floors were more likely to have ghost activity. If I could have relaxed a little more I would have enjoyed my stay here that much more. I am happy to say I didn't see anything unusual. Our room was clean and comfortable. Our bathroom was dated and small but everything functioned properly. Downtown hotel location was perfect.

Trip to Chicago for a Tradeshow

Posted 29-Sep-2014
Pros: Location...
Cons: Nothing
The Hotel was very comfortable and within walking distance of everything we wanted to visit. We especially enjoyed the lake view of the sunrises. They were a beautiful start to the day. The Hotel staff were quite helpful with all our needs.

Old hotel in great location

Posted 29-Sep-2014
Pros: The location is great. The first floor, including lobby, retail space, lounge and restaurant, have been renovated and look like most upscale hotels.
Cons: The rooms and corridors are dated, and all the rooms in the area where I stayed were connecting. Sound insulation left a lot to be desired.
Location: The best thing Congress Plaza offers is a great location on South Michigan Avenue. It is convenient to everything in downtown Chicago.
Overall, I enjoyed my three-day stay here and would recommend the hotel to anyone who isn't overly concerned with luxurious appointments. If you enjoy walking along Michigan Avenue and the surrounding streets, this is a good option.

The hotel is very old. You can feel the history instantly. The location is its most attractive feature. We would stay again.

Not a place to stay, unless they renovate!

Posted 28-Sep-2014
Pros: Lobby is pretty. Very little interaction with staff but what we did, they were nice and courteous.
Cons: Spend the money to do the room renovations and people will want to stay. There are many Chicago hotels that offer nicer rooms at lower or same cost.
Location: Chicago has many transportation options. You can get anywhere you want to go.
We were in Chicago for my son's wedding and two other family members booked their rooms as well. My family is very easy to please and has used Expedia for years. Unfortunately, this was the worst hotel experience we have ever had. It has a 3-star rating, but honestly A 1-star rating is being generous. This is a very old hotel, which has a pretty lobby but that's where it ends. I've stayed in similar hotels all over the country but room renovations have been done, still keeping the beauty of the building. This hotel has not done any of this. All 3 of our rooms were outdated, appearing to have the original wallpaper, carpeting, curtains, furniture and beds. The air conditioner did not work. We could not open the curtains because the sun coming through made the room even hotter. Tub did not drain at all. Shower pressure was so low that the tub filled up more. Our first day for Housekeeping didn't happen. We just asked for clean towels because we had to get ready for the Rehearsal Dinner. The second day, I saw the housekeeper in the hall (early morning) and she wanted to know if we wanted the room cleaned. At 4:45pm, when leaving for the evening, it still was not cleaned. It did eventually cleaned by the time we returned to our room. All 3 rooms were very disappointing. We traveled from Ohio for our son's wedding and this added to the stress of it all. I would never recommend this hotel.

Lots of history and charm, but needs a makeover.

Posted 28-Sep-2014
Loved that CPH has that old building feel and charm. But it's a shame that it's not what it used to be. The hallways are a little creepy. I got to my room and the toilet was running, and I had to jiggle the handle everytime after use to make it stop. Poor lighting in the room and no paintings on the walls. Paint was layered on and doors didn't fit the frames. Warm, not hot water. The bar needed some work. Though, after shivering through my first night, the staff promptly brought me a space heater. Room service was great, huge plate of food for $16. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Treated you like a true guest. Central location for Chicago with lots to see and do in just a few steps.

May be the best deal in the Chicago Loop

Posted 27-Sep-2014
We have stayed numerous times in this hotel and keep coming back. Yes, it is old and a trifle worn, somewhat outdated. All this means is that it is a well-established vintage Chicago hotel with a superb location and very modest price. On the other hand, it has spacious rooms, amazing views of the lakefront, a fantastic ballroom and an friendly, attentive staff.

Great location and nice view

Posted 27-Sep-2014
It was nice stay overall, we enjoyed the location of the hotel, the nice lake view, and the nice city, the first room we got was not good, the carpet smelled and was dirty as our feet almost turned black!!, I asked the hotel staff to move me to another room with a nice view without mentioning anything about the carpet and they were very helpful and responsive, they moved is the next day to a room with lake view which was great. We couldn't control the room temperature as it was central air, that was a little bit annoying as it got a bit cold during the night, the hotel staf were very nice and provided us with a heater but it was small for the room. The valet parking was 44 per day but if u take your car more than once a day u'll pay more, I discovered that I could have parked in the same garage which is very close to the hotel; around the corner ( the hotel used it to park my car ) with lowest rate; 39$ and unlimited in and out.
