Great view of Buckingham Fountain

Posted 02-Jul-2015
This is an older hotel with some signs of aging. But our room was clean, and the view of Lake Michigan and Buckingham Fountain were great. It is right by Millennium Park, so you can walk to see Cloud Gate and the other cool sculptures that are there very easily.

View was great, room just ok

Pros: great view of the Lake if you are on the right side of the hotel... not so much on the other side. convenient location on Michigan Ave
Cons: update the bathrooms
Location: close to shopping, art institute, 1 mile walk to Union Station, across the st from Millennium Park.
We were allowed to check in early and our first room smelled musty and had a dropped ceiling with what looked like mold on it. We asked to be moved and were moved to a room with a view of the Lake and a room without a dropped ceiling which was much better. the bathroom was very tiny and the tiles on the floor were cracked. I did not walk in the room barefoot at all though the carpet did seem to be clean the bed was ok. We loved the location and were able to walk to everywhere we went. We traveled by train and the walk to the hotel from Union Station was approx 1 mile and took about 20 mins or so. We were there for a concert at The United Center and did not take one Taxi- the walk to the United Center was about 3 miles and took us an hour or so. We walked in the daylight and never felt unsafe. After the concert, we took the special events bus back which dropped us off on Michigan Ave about a 15 min walk from the Hotel. The price was right and for the most part because it was a good experience. The rooms could stand to be updated - especially the bathrooms.

Affordable surprise in Chicago

Posted 30-Jun-2015
Pros: Room almost European. Staff very friendly
Location: Location close to everything.
Chose this hotel on the basis of price. How nice to find a hotel convenient to all of downtown chicago. The room was clean and spacious. Yes, the furniture had seen better days but furniture was not the reason I was visiting Chicago. very friendly and helpful staff.

Very dated and rundown. I was placed in a section at the far end of the hotel, so I am not sure if this is representative of the entire facility.

Pros: The location of the hotel was fantastic for my family and I. We were close to the shopping, eating and Museum and Aquarium. Great location.
We were very happy with the location of this hotel. It was across the street from Grant park and within walking distance from the Magnificent Mile, many restaurants and the museums and aquarium. The hotel is very old. It was built in the late 1800's and the rooms reflect this. The architechture if very interesting, but the rooms need to be updated in my opinion. Hallways are old and dark and have many doors leading to corridors. It was spooky and a bit creepy, but thankfully, there is no need to spend much time in your room while in Chicago. I would have stayed there again in the future, if visiting, if it weren't for the giant cockroach we saw when leaving right by our room that darted into our neighbors room when it felt us pass by.

Carpet, furniture and decor is old. Tub did not drain well, but got fixed on day 2. Elevator did not work 1 day. Bathroom door knob locked up and we had to work to get it loose.

Room was not very clean

Posted 29-Jun-2015
The room smelled like sweat and was not exactly clean. Very old building, elevators sounded like they were breaking. Vending machine ate $2, but the hotel staff did refund the money. Only nice part of the room was bathroom, though the toilet lid did not fit properly.
