“Cheapest hotel near downtown”
This budget hotel near downtown Chicago is a good option for those who are willing to ignore some imperfections in the room. The room was clean, but the furnishings and bedding were showing their age -- there were a couple of stray bloodstains. Everything smelled faintly like smoke, because this hotel does not offer non-smoking rooms. The A/C was powerful and worked well. The neighborhood is sketchy at night, but we didn't see any of the homeless people that the other reviews mentioned. The El station is just a few blocks away, but I would not take the El to the hotel at night.
“Basic place”
I enjoyed my stay in this hotel. Chinatown is a really safe part of town and convenient to downtown Chicago. The red line is only two minutes away. You can walk to McCormick Place in ten to fifteen minutes. The room was old, but well kept. Everything was basic but you get everything you need: a bed, sheets, a shower and a toilet. They had HBO Latino but no English-language HBO for some reason. Lots of Chinese TV stations.
“Close to downtown”
Reasonable price, just minutes from downtown on the El. Tons of shops and restaurants in the neighborhood. Comfortable room with free ethernet. No extras like breakfast, but we got out to see the city. And there are several bakeries within one block, so we had delicious breakfast for about $1 per person.
“Will go back”
Very good for the price. Housekeeping staff doesn't speak English but they are very nice. Room is small and not for those expecting 4-star luxury on the cheap, but we weren't there to hang out in the room. Adequate for what we wanted/needed, safe area, and we scored parking on the street right in front of the hotel. Will definitely stay there again when in Chicago.
“You know if you belong there”
If you are the type of person who looks for things to complain about, spend the extra money and find a hotel downtown. If you're a budget traveler and you want to stay in a convenient location and don't let things like a cockroach in the bathroom bother you then you will have a great stay at this hotel. Staff is very kind and courteous but the they don't seem to keep up with the upkeep on the hotel as well as they could. All told a good stay.
“good deal for the money”
pros: good price, quiet, helpful staff, internet access, one block to cta red line, neighborhood seemed safe to me and I arrived late at night. cons: the room was a bit scruffy but not really dirty or unsanitary, the wifi didn't work (but there was also a working connection via ethernet cable)and the tv worked but its reception of english language channels varied in quality. Overall: I had stayed here before and will again. As long as you understand that this isn't a five star downtown hotel and are mostly going to be doing things other than staying your room, this should work well for you.
“worth it”
this hotel is very close to the red line. it is in an awesome neighborhood; everyone there was very friendly and the food was great. the staff was pleasant. we had a room with a queen bed, so there was not a lot of space to manouver, but the bathroom was quite sizable and clean. they have air conditioning. the wall's aren't exactly sound proof, but apart from that i'd say it's a fantastic place to stay if you want to be close to the city and pay a low price.
“Will stay again”
The room was exactly what I needed. A bed, a shower, and AC. I was in town for a 3 game series at Wrigley Field and was able to make it to the games from the hotel in around 30 min. I was about 2 blocks from the L and traveling downtown was also very easy (about 10-15 min ride). For the price and the convienence of where we stayed I would recommend this place to anyone, just know that you are simply paying for a place to sleep and shower. To make matters even better Cubbies took first place while I was in town.
“A fine budget accomodation”
So close to the very center of Chicago (3 train stops), in a very interesting and friendly neighborhood with numerous good restaurants, and for such a bargain price, plus the internet works .... one can easily forgive that both printers in the room behind the lobby were broken :)
“A great budget hotel”
Coming up for a summer rock festival, we were a bit nervous about the neighborhood, but it was great. Chinatown is safe (day and night) and extremely close to a train stop. there are tons of affordable restaurants and gift shops nearby. the hotel room was bare-bones basic, but it was clean and the desk staff was always friendly and helpful. if you're a budget traveler and not too concerned with loads of amenities, this hotel is a steal!
